OK, I got a good deal on a CF-29 and now I have to find a way to pay for it before the wife beats me (again). Even worse, she will want to play with the 29 since she did not get a new toy. If I trade toys then she has no claim. :D

I thought I would offer these here before I put them up on Ebay.

    ==========================================================
    1) CF-28 hard drive caddy

    2) used

    3)

    4) $75 and $100

    5) payment via PayPal (wyrm73 at gmail dot com)

    6) USPS priority mail within the US. ($10.35 unless you want to add insurance. Can probably comibine shipping for the same price if someone wants both as long as they fit in the USPS flat rate box) Outside the US will be actual cost of whatever service you choose, once again combining shipping if you want both.

    7) EBay feedback (user perculapc)

    8) I have two of these caddies both from CF-28STJGZZM models. The one for $75 has a bad 30GB hard drive but I have not removed it so it will be easier to figure out how the new drive is installed while removing the old one and to prevent lost/ broken parts on my part. I am only including the drive for convenience- I am sure it is dead and offer no warranty on it whatsoever. If you can make it work then all the better deal for you, but I would not count on it.

The second caddy does have a working 30GB drive that will come NTFS formatted only. I am in the process of DOD wiping the drive and then will do a thorough test to confirm that it is 100% OK after the formatting. If I find any issues, I will drop the price of this caddy to the same price as the other one. I do have the original Windows XP restore disks for a MKIII model that these came from, but I am not sure of the legal implications of loading that image on a separate drive, so PM me if you need that image and have a COA of your own but no CD-ROM, etc and we might be able to work something out.

I may be willing to consider a trade for parts for the CF-29. I am looking specifically for a touch screen and OEM bluetooth. PM me with what you had in mind.
    ----------------------------------------------------------
Attention Buyers: Please do not offer less than what the original poster asked for unless they specify "Best Offer". If you have a question about the price of an item please private message the original poster.

Finished up with the second drive and all is well. Both are still available at this point- Parahawk needed a caddy for a Mk I.

Sorry, was out of town all day yesterday and offline. You have email....I think. I got another mailbox is full message when I replied. But apparently you got the last one so I hope it worked. Not working well indeed. :p

I think they have USB fingerprint readers, but nothing stock from Panasonic. That is only for the CF-30 I believe.

Well, I would consider it crazy. Priority mail is three day service. The only thing better from USPS is next day but it is $27.65 instead of $10.35. UPS is even higher. It's up to you, but I will mail it early tomorrow which should get there on Saturday with priority mail.

You said as long as the cost wasn't a crazy amount.....I was calling the cost crazy. Now that I think about it, you are getting into ToughBooks. If that doesn't make you crazy, then it at least makes you a carrier. ;)

It will be on its way in the morning. Enjoy.

I still have the other caddy available if there are any other takers.

Wow. How about a chance to make it right before you blast someone in a public forum. No email, nothing.

I had that drive running for hours without an issue during the wiping and testing. I only did that to ensure that it was fully working because it had set for a while. It had worked fine before it was pulled as well. A used drive that is. At $100, you still got a good deal even for just the caddy. Check Ebay.

Regardless, I will refund $25 to your Paypal on your word only, adjusting it to the price I sold the caddy only at. I am doing this mainly because I do not have time to mess with having you return it and reselling it with only two weeks left before I deploy out of the country.

If that is not satisfactory, email me to make arrangements to return it and I will deal with it.

Sorry you are having problems with the hard drive

The hard drives do fail over time

You can take the $25 refund and try to find another used drive, that is if you are willing to take a chance
Your best option is a new hard drive that will set you back just a little more money, about $60 or so
The new 5400rpm ide drives like the Samsung HM160HC are really a good upgrade
My boot time with the Samsung drive in my cf-28 mk-3 was less than 30 seconds
Its more than you were expecting to have to pay , but it’s a nice performance boost and will come with a manufacturers warranty

The insanity around here is there is always something extra you can do or add and of course it just takes a little more money than you expect

btw if you are thinking you paying to much look at this link

i never said i was paying too much. did not gripe about price, never do,..just want what i pay for. as for the link, it appears to be in nice shape..also preloaded w/guarentee. look we all know the caddys are hard to find, and will sell for whatever the traffic will bear. i stand behind whatever i sell period,..if its not as i said or doa...not a problem, i remedy

    Yes its 160gb
You should partition the drive into 2 partitions when you reload windows

You did get what you paid for. A tested USED hard drive, You said yourself it worked fine when you got it and loaded XP. I am truly sorry it failed in such a short time. If I had any clue that it would have done that, I would not have sold it as working. I am a workstation technician for a living and hard drives fail spontaneously on me at work regularly. It just happens. That is why I tested it thoroughly, but still did not offer a guarantee. I guess I should spell it out clearly next time for those that read between the lines and imply a guarantee where none was written. I guess I should know better. I buy and sell on Ebay too, also with 100% positive feedback for whatever that is worth.

And you are very right that it is not about the money. I am more concerned that you are impugning my name when I made a good faith effort to send out a working product. If refunding money is what it takes to make it right, then I am doing it for the sake of making it right, not the money. I really should not have to offer a refund on a non-guaranteed used hard drive sold well below market value except that I want to make it right. And speaking of guarantees.....

WHAT????? Where did you read that? The only mention of guarantee in my post at all was to say that there was no guarantee on the drive that I had tested as dead. Also, I never said preloaded. I said specifically that it was wiped and NTFS formatted and if you wanted it pre-installed to PM me. You never mentioned in any communication that I received that you wanted me to install the factory image.

Every email I sent you bounced back with a system message as mailbox full. Now your outgoing emails aren't working either? I never received any emails from you after I sent the drive. Time for a better service provider I think.

I tell you what. I am pretty much feeling thrown under the bus right now after I offered what I though would be a good deal for someone. And for my effort I am one step short of being accused of intentionally defrauding people. Since you have already ordered a replacement for the drive already, I would like the old bare drive returned to me for further testing. I will pay the return postage. Once I have the drive and checked it, I will refund the $25 difference.

Since email communication has been sporadic at best so far, please post the amount of the postage here and I will send it to the Paypal account you paid me from.

Wyrm73. Well if painter feals cheated. I for one say thanks for letting me know these would NOT work in my CF-28 (600). As for HD's they can FAIL at ANY time. So just the caddy is a GREAT price. I wish I could have used that one and save alot of pointless greif! :(

    Make up your mind.

The way you are acting on this leaves me with serious doubts as to wether the drive failed or not, which is why I wanted it returned to me. The fact that you are so far unwilling to provide the drive makes me think I might be right. Regardless, I have sent the $25 as I said I would, an action I now regret. Nonetheless, if it shuts you up it is money well spent. I have way better things in my life to worry about right now.

Now if you are a man of your word, I would expect that you would have no issues sending the drive back to me for inspection. Since you did not provide me with a postage amount, I included an extra $5 to cover a USPS small flat rate priority mail box. That should be more than adequate for a notebook hard drive. If you choose not to return it, place the $5 on top of the drive on your workbench to remind you of something else.

If you insist, yes I did recieve the drive......wrapped in a single layer or bubble wrap and a regular padded mailer. If it was not dead before, it sure is now after our fine postal servants had their way with it. I get no noise though.....actually nothing at at. Does not recognize in bios, nothing. Hard to say what the story is now. I guess I have no choice but to take your word.

And this is an object lesson in sales; I make it a habit to take photos and make insured shipping mandatory on ANYTHING that can fail in this fashion or be damaged in shipping; particularly of the label with ser # on it.

I have unfortunately been on both sides of this argument; one time received an "untested" hard drive from some loser on eBay that actually had very visibly charred components on the PCB; he tried to blame the damage on USPS until I reminded him that he sent the stupid thing to me WRAPPED IN A MARLB0R0 BOX. I also had another joker tried to send me back a 4200RPM 30GB WD HD in place of a 5400 RPM model; fortunately I had photograph and the Ser# listed at the bottom of the auction page. ;)

Fine so why ask then, any metal surface can be properly prepped and painted at a body shop for dirt cheap, I got a quote for getting a car bumper painted and it cost me around $100 for dupont paint with good quality work, I could get the lid to my toughbook painted for around $20 why waste time buying supplies, thats like wasting time posting a useless question without searching

the attitude of you people on here is unbelievable. your high and mighty attitudes are amoung the worst i have seen on any site. get over yourselves. as far as conneor, yes it is more than evident that asking you anything(although i don't recall asking you anything, you seem to just jump in with your nonsense) is in fact a waste of time
