That's a nice setup for a CF-28.... Someone should jump all over that!
-

I am thinking of getting this what would happen if stick the drive from my cf-28 MK1 600 mhz would windows handle it or would it screw up.
-
If it’s an optical drive they are universally compatible on cf-27 /28 and cf-29 models
If you are asking about the hard drive, no you will blue screen the computer and have to format and reload xp
Alex -
damn, was hoping to avoid the hassle. I recall one time I switched hard drives between a pentium 233 to a 400 mhz and windows coughed a little bit, but it accepeted it. I was kinda surprised.

Dang... And I have all these Krugerrands around here....
-
while we are here jawing away I have an acronis image of the above mentioned 600mhz MK1 can I do a universal restore with that? it is supposed to restore the HAL layer to a different machine.
-
Why do you want to put your mk-1 hard drive in the mk-3?
Alex -
hey why not? lol, no really I just want to test the universal restore option I never had a need to use it, why not now. I don't have anything important to lose besides season 2 of gossip girl. worst comes to worst I have to reinstall windows. and if it works well I had the CF-28 hard drive set up nice. I just reinstalled everything a couple of weeks ago due to hdd failure on a new drive. everything tweaked and updated
-
Well there is a couple of small differences on the caddies
First is that there is a height difference , not too much of an issue I have swapped them around
And what I have found on the later mk#s was that some were equipped with a hard drive heater
Alex -
From what I heard the earlier CF-28 caddies will fit the later, but not the other way around. I have to search the threads maybe I got it wrong
-
Alex -
The CF-28 Mk1 HDD caddy is "Universal Donor". Later models are a few mm thicker due to the addition of the HDD heater; just enough to prevent closing the battery door. However Modly has stated that they can be "massaged" a bit to fit in the Mk1; it just takes some patience.
