Greetings Waldeck
I posted a similar question awhile back (this past summer) without any luck. What I did was find a guy on E-Bay that sells cf-27's and spoke with him. I found the link here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150912903110
He knows the CF-27 inside & out, and has operating systems (Win 98SE) & (XP) that will work with any model. I sent him a Hard Drive Enclosure and a 30 GB Dell Hard Drive, & he put 98SE (that's what my COA sticker is) on the set up for $27 including return shipping. Popped it in and works like a champ. I can look up his contact info for you next week if you like. Send me a PM and/or email if you need any further information. Linux Ubuntu 8.04 also works well on these great Toughbooks.

Thanks Cleve for the quick reply. I will give him a call and see if he can sell me a disc.
I am trying to do this myself but I suffer from brain freeze on some of the easyest stuff, but it keeps my old brain ticking over. I have 6 Toughbooks now, have to sneak them in so the wife don't see them!!! though she knows I'm sure.
I have an offer on a couple more cf27's so I want to try and do it myself. I am thinking of putting Linux on, but I will have to get a bigger HHD as the one I have is only 6gb, 5gb usable and the 2010 linux I have is 4gb for the OS. How do you like Linux? Do you know what size HHD drive could I use if I put on Win95.
Thanks Bob. -
Linux works great! You can run before you install to see how you like- My favorite is Ubuntu 8.0 & Joli 1.2
PM me and I can send you a Linux ISO if you have trouble burning a free copy of Linux. I know there are other Linux Distros that have very minimal memory requirements- I believe Ubuntu is 4 GB and Joli is less- good luck & let us know, cleve -
Thanks Cleve. I got a caddy and HHD from Steve the guy you told me about. Also got a win98se disc and drivers so I can play. Went to get some foppy disc's for startup and got laughed at by the kids in a few shops, "What are they". Anyway found some on line. I will download a copy or 2 of Linux later once I've got the 98 thing done. Bob.

Bob, glad it all worked out. Steve is very knowledgeable on the CF-27 and even uses "dial up" telephone modem for getting on the internet at home. When he needs to be out and about, he uses an airNIC wireless system that works well on unsecured systems. Take care, Cleve
