Hey everyone, looking for used toughbooks that can be refurbed. Just came out of college and looking for computers to fix and generally tinker with. Anyone know a site that sells toughbook lots?

your best bet is ebay. I do know of a guy that sells them by the lots but they are pretty big lots and you need to be loaded. He just tried to sell me a lot of cf73s 51s and 48s all mixed in together, but none of them had touchscreens. he also has lots of 28s 29s 30s 18s 19s 52s 51s and a few of the business rugged ones.
If you can throw around $15,000 at a time I'll give you his phone number -
Welcome to the forum. Ebay will be your best bet. Also.. Please don't double post. You need only post one request.

ebay is a good bet some days. I do find cf-18's occasionally out of a recylcing center out of Calgary

Do they just let you walk in and get them or do they charge you a percentage of what they could be worth? Just curious...

Couldn't really find any half decent ones on ebay. There are some cf-27's (i think) for 50-100 but thats just for one. Maybe once i get a job i'll be able to afford it.

FYI... There are a lot of sellers that sell crap on ebay. The only thing that will guide you, as the rest of us have learned, is time and money. There is no way to tell who has the best price, the best equipment except having the experience of doing it.
As this place has grown... It has morphed into different things apparently. The main thing (I feel) is still the informational help that we give to newbies who have purchased a Toughbook and need help getting it up and running as they don't have the drivers... Or they have another problem. This is the most fun as everyone who helps adds their two cents. We all remember when we were in their shoes.
Others show up just to read about what we have done without ever posting anything or helping anyone. This is evident on the Views VS Posts on many of the threads here. A lot of these are the ebay users/sellers that claim all sorts of cool stuff in their auctions without ever even trying anything other than reading about what we have already done.
I started here back in May 2007 when there were only three active threads that were posted in the prior 6 months. I started posting about what I was doing and was soon joined by a lot of people that were a heck of a lot smarter than I was. Over time, as more people joined and contributed, this forum has become the place to learn about Toughbooks... And the cool things you can do with/to them. To compare notes, problems, triumps and to post about what you have done that may be a little different or a little better than others.
There has been an explosion of information here. There have also been a lot of people who read the pages here to exploit that. Ebay sellers who never contribute... They just come on with questions. Then post their wares on ebay claiming to know it all and do it better than anyone else.
So... If you are looking for cut-rate contacts... As far as I am concerned... You came to the wrong place. That is something that time and experience give you... Not a forum on the Internet. We are not here to help you refurb laptops and to make money. Since I am also an ebay reseller of Toughbooks occasionally, (As are others here) it ticks me off when others come one with nothing but questions.
My apologies if this is not you exactly. But this is something that, I feel, needed to be said in general. I'm sure that some of the "takers" may resent, refute or deny what I have stated here. I'd be eager to see their posts.
Sorry... I normally welcome all new members. But when their first post is, "Where can I buy a lot of Toughbooks to resell?"... It hits me the wrong way. And this has been building up for a while. That is not what we are here for.

My advice is stay away from any large purchases, until you educate yourself on the Toughbooks
If you are buying one or two for you own use , thats a good place to start
Spend some time reading the threads in the forum here
The forum members here over the last few years have done it all,and seen it all lol
Used toughbooks that have missing parts can be quite expensive when you factor in the cost of completing them as the parts/shipping for parts can add up quickly
And you have to understand all the options that they come with, as that is a large factor on the price. for instance you could purchase a cf-28 for between $80 to over $800 used, the $800 unit might be the best buy if it has been refurbished by someone that has the expertize and care to do things right

Thank you for the post Toughbook and no i'm not just someone who joins a forum so i can post "can i have amazing toughbook deals kthxbai". A guy that I know has an entire basement filled with toughbooks of various models. He gave me 3 cf-25 which caught my interest. Once I graduate i will mostly likely get a job building/repairing computers. Most laptops are the same give or take a few minor details.
The reason I joined this forum was to gain a little more experience with toughbooks. I asked for toughbook lots so I can take them apart and put them back together and learn a little about them. Turning them around and selling them is a bonus but not the main idea. -
Cool... Good to hear. I think you will find more information about an old 8088 than the CF-25... That is ancient... But I'd imagine still similar to the other fully rugged line. Parts would be your problem... That and trying to find someone to buy something that old. The CF-28 is pretty much the minimum these days unless you are running Linux on a CF-27... None of the Toughbooks (Fully Rugged) are known for their blazing speed... But you can run over them and blow them up and they still work like a charm.
Yes... They are the same in some respects but way apart in others. No fans for instance. How to cool a metal laptop without a fan? They are surely ingenious designs all around for the most part...
