WTB CF-28 GPS Bumpout Cover

Would like to buy a CF-28 GPS Bumpout cover.

I've never seen a GPS built into a CF-28 before, that's why I'm asking - I can't picture it in my head...

Keven... Have you looked up Teo's mod where he used a CF-18/19 GPS bumout to mod GPS into the CF-28? It requires drilling two holes into the side of the CF-28 on the right hand side but it allows you to mod the em408 and your choice of small patch antenna into it. It is FAR superior than the stock GPS. The finished product looks totally stock and is just as tough as the rest of the Toughbook!

 

I know that Teo is a master modder, but I have not read that thread since the 18 is out of my reach right now, but I will read and study it. I did not want the bump out for the stock GPS but wanted to get one and see which active patch antenna could fit inside.

Let me see if I am misunderstanding your misunderstanding of what Rick wrote (try saying that fast three times! ): "...Teo's mod where he used a CF-18/19 GPS bumout to mod GPS into the CF-28?"

Rick was stating that Teo grafted a CF-18/19 "bumpout" onto a CF-28 to accomplish the same goal you seek.

And I'm fairly sure the CF-18/19 part will be more available that the CF-28 part (have you checked with the Heartland Panasonic Parts Store to see if either of the parts are available from them?).

 

That is correct and by just looking at the part I can see where it can be grafted onto the left side of the CF-28 where the origional part would go. I have not called Heartland, as I don't have the part number for either of them. I tried looking up the part numbers but panasonic only describes the parts that go in that location as sheet plastic. I guess I should have asked if anyone could supply me with the part numbers.

 

I have 23 service manuals on the CF-28 but not one of them list the GPS bump-out , just the regular cover

Does anybody know where this bumpout mod is listed? I have looked in many threads and I still can't find it. Is teo's screen name ohlip?
