Hi, I'm looking to buy a CF-29 w/GPS, would like to have recovery discs, good battery, backlit emissive KB. Budget is around $300. Anyone have anything that might fit the bill?

    Thanks,
    Andrew

Just to let you know $300.00 is not going to get you much...it will get you a 29 with a good battery and that is about it...sorry. Members do have what you want but my guess you will be looking at $800+ for the works and you might ask why...please read here http://forum.notebookreview.com/tou...g-here-buying-your-favorite-auction-site.html

Thanks for the replies, I certainly can recognize that some members put a lot of TLC into the units they go through. Not trying to cheapen the value of that at all. Perhaps when my budget is a little more flexible I can afford to buy a completely gone-through unit, I'll try my luck with ebay for now, I suppose!

You "MAY" get a fixer upper here. Maybe without gps and the extras. You can add them later as money permits.

And that is a good deal. Hey Bob thanks for pricing one right. Little cheap maybe.

I have one or two around $650 to $800 depending if new TS and the hours on the unit. I have an LTQ (NEW) that I will eventually get the GPS installed in. It will be $800 and I will sit on it until I get it. Or not.

Time is money. Just realistically price the unit plus the add-ons and give the guy a little for his time. Fair is fair.

Ancho, don't go to ebay. Shop here or at toughbooktalk first. Let someone else (us) buy and "mess around with it first". That way we eat the lemons. :)

I will tell you that unit from graybeard will be exactly as specified. He's one of the good'ns.

    FWIW.

If you do decide to go with a base unit go ahead and make up your mind on what Mark you want. Then you need to think about what accessories you want. I see the emissive keyboard for sure, but on the GPS you have to ask yourself if you want factory or aftermarket GPS.

The aftermarket units pickup a lot better than the factory ones. I have one of each and the aftermarket one will pickup indoors covered up no problem, indoors unless near a window the factory one doesn't pick up at good or not at all.

Another question is how are you going to use this unit? Work, general purpose with occasion GPS use?

Thanks for the additional info; I may have to consider upping my budget a bit, sooner rather than later :).

ADOR, The GPS usage will be occasional, most of my work is indoors in an office unfortunately. But, I do want the GPS to work on the occasions I need it (which will be outdoors / in a vehicle). If the factory unit is capable in that role, then it's probably fine for my needs.

I will second that. Having dealt with the seller before on several occasions this is a good deal. My CF-29 is a Mk3 also. It is just about the same as this except it has 66 channel aftermarket GPS in it.

This will give you just about everything you want. If you need a SD CARD reader that is just a PCMCIA adapter away.
