Look into an IBM Thinkpad adapter. Get a 16 volt with at least 4.5 amps. It should have the same end as a Toughbook. I have used many of the IBM adapters with no issues.

Plus! With the correct IBM Adapter, part number 22P9003, you have both AC and DC capabilities! The AC side is good from 110-240 VAC, 50/60 Hz. Between this and a handful of adapters I have near worldwide power capabilities!

the pc shop guys would be scratching their heads when you brought in that toughbook to get a replacement for the adapter that went on the fritz and burned up but they are there to sell u something so I guess they fixed you up but I think as you think it might not hold so get a good panasonic adapter with the yellow tip from the nice sellers on ebay or as others have said find a compatable IBM adapter with the yellow tip and you will be so happy btw the part number for the original panasonic adapter is CF-AA1653AM
