Hi. My CF-28 can accept 512MB RAM.

I can't source any locally, and I don't trust the eBay vendors to know precisely what RAM I need.

Anyone here have any to sell? PayPal would be best.

Please note I live in Canada, so if you're in the US please be prepared to ship internationally.

    Thanks!

    IY,
Welcome. Since you're new here please ignore any replies to questions from outside the Toughbook crowd! They have no clue what they are talking about and will get you in trouble. CF-28's are a little finicky about ram. I use Kingston and have never had a problem. I think that the Kingston configurater will not recommend 512MB for your machine, but if you buy a 512 stick with the exact specs of the 256 it will work. There are other brands which some here have had luck with, but be assured that the Kingston will work every time. PC133 - SDRAM - 133MHz - SODIMM - Un-Buffered - Non-Parity, 144pin.
    Good luck!

    Thanks Cap'n.

I know they are finicky. I have located that exact RAM spec on eBay, but I understand (and may be mistaken) that the RAM needs to be of the four chip variety, and I have not been able to confirm with any dealer that they offer the exact module I need. As most of them use "stock photos" of their RAM for sale, I'm leary about making a purchase sight-unseen.

You're not wrong! Like I said, Kingston ram. Buy it at Kingston, NewEGG, etc. Even the most experienced hackers on this site have run into the same problem you're having. I use eBay for most everything, I buy my ram at Kingston. Just pulled a stick, Kingston part # KTM-TP133/512, working perfectly on a MKIII.

Okay, well thanks for the advice.

I tried to buy via NewEgg and via Kensington, but they won't ship to Canada. If I PayPal'd one of you nice fellows in the US, would you buy the RAM for me and mail it to me yourself?

    I'm not a Nigerian scammer... I promise.

    Hi,
I bought 2 512s for my CF-28 and there is only one slot to add ram. I still have the spare one. If you Paypal me what you were going to pay Newegg plus a little for mailing to Canada. I will mail it to you today. It is a DELL branded chip but it is made by Kingston and the other one is working just fine in my CF-28.
My Cell phone is 253 255 2961 if you want to talk about it and I am located near Seattle
    Regards
    Gerry

    Hey i have a CF-28 MK3, Crucial website tells me the following;

    Maximum Memory: 384 or 512MB
    Slots: 1 (1 bank of 1)
    Standard Memory: 128 or 256MB non-removable

Has anyone put 512MB ram in there cf-28 and not had problems ?

I think (Someone correct me if I am wrong) that there are only two models that PANASONIC states will accept the 512MB of RAM. The others are a crapshoot. I've had some that seem to take it fine and others that give the BSOD upon bootup. Some seem to have no issues. Some will start to give you the BSOD after 1-3 months of use. So... Back to the crapshoot thing. The good thing is that Panasonic was wise enough to solder on base RAM so that it will always work even without the extra RAM.

Your best bet (if you can) is to try a friends RAM in your machine to make sure that it works.

    Just my two cents....

Just an update for those following:Gerry (secretsailorsailing) sent my some RAM. It didn't work, but it wasn't Kingston so that might be part of it.

But I did want to say that the transaction (including Gerry's offer of a refund) was flawless, and he's proven himself to be a trustworthy seller.

It's reassuring to see there are still some good folks out there!

    Hi,
I have a spare stick of Kingston 512Mb RAM if you still need one. Bought as a pair as seller wouldn't split. One stick is in my CF 28 and running well. If your still in the market PM me your details and I'll send it over. I'm in the UK. Same price as Gerry offered and no quibble refund!
    Kind regards,
    Adrian
