I am looking at getting a "fully rugged" toughbook for work, I'm not sure which model will best fit my needs. I would like one with a good gps/nav setup, touchscreen, I need a usb 2.0 port, larger HD (160), wireless, backlit/rubber keyboard. I will be mainly using it in a vehicle with a ram mount. I am looking to spend about 1500 or so. I have been looking on a well known aution site and everyone claims their Toughbook is the "best". Just figured I would post this here as you seem like a knowledgeable bunch. Thanks in advance for any feedback.

The 1.6GHz CF-29 will handle it.

    I agree with toughbook
    With your requirements , you will need a mk-4 or mk-5 cf-29
They are the only models in the cf-29 lineup that can handle Vista, even though you will be running xp
They have support for ddr2 ram as well
What is on your "must have" option list

No ,not really it would not be anything but a very basic model
For example a optical drive combo dvd cd/rw unit for a cf-29 might set you back $80
It took me months to find one for my cf-30 @ only $215 used
It all adds up on these ,Quickly
The OP would end up going way over his target price range
My cf-30 gps model was $3K

Also look at these two screenshots

The first is what kind of reception you need for reliable Gps tracking, is on a cf-29 Item number: 190335063391

The second shot is from a ebay seller that lists his cf-30 for sale with gps
    Item number: 280398059605
What a joke, I hate sellers that don't have a clue to how things are supposed to work
If I was that seller I would delete that picture, it will not track reliably
