OK, I'm ready to play with my first Toughbook. After reading a zillion posts (thanks everybody!), I'm motivated to buy a CF-28 with touchscreen to replace the music player in the shop (sawdust, welding fumes). It will also be used to talk to the computer in the car via USB, and to learn about Toughbooks.

Will need 256MB to support the music application (Amarok 1.4 on Slackware 12.0). Don't need a hard drive but will need the caddy--or at least the cable. Optical drive would be nice (I assume these won't boot to USB pen drive?). Battery condition is unimportant but I assume one is needed to filter the wall power?

The only show stopper might be my sound card (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Echo_Indigo_IO.jpg). It has a bulge containing the volume knob and stereo jack that I hope will clear the area around the open door.

I'm a newbie so unable to PM yet. Email is fredderfunkel (at) yahoo (dot) com.

    Sincerely,
    Rick
