EDIT 3/11/09: Concluded. I've purchased the item.

I need a hard drive caddy for a 1GHz CF-28S3. Supposedly a caddy from an 800MHz machine will do, as well. It's my understanding that a caddy from a 600MHz machine will *not* fit. Let me know if you think otherwise.

These are hard to find. I'll call Heartland if I can make some time during the day, but used parts are fine with me, too.

PayPal is my preferred method, but I'm flexible nonetheless. I guess $90-100 is a reasonable offer?

EDIT 3/11/09: Concluded. I've purchased the item.

rickdog - The word from Heartland is: $138 and change, plus shipping. By the way, the caddy's exact Panasonic part number is DFWV99A0064. There might be a hyphen in there, but I'm not sure where... perhaps it doesn't matter?

LannyBoy - I will send you an email shortly.

Naaahh... you got that backwards. A Caddy from a Mk1 will fit in ANY CF-28, the caddies for the Mk2 & Mk3 are a wee bit thicker from top to bottom to allow for the HD heater OPTION, so they WON'T fit in a Mk1.

That's why we saw so many Mk1s selling for ridiculous prices for a 600mhz machine, and also why we saw so many being DUMPED on fleaBay with NO CADDIE - they are a UNIVERSAL DONOR. ;)

Under any circumstances, they sell pretty dearly and infrequently, just like the CDROM caddies for the multibay. I've seen them selling for a combined price that's higher than a complete, working Mk2 or Mk3.

LannyBoy - I can't find any contact info for you, be it email, forum PM, or otherwise. I'm guessing that I'm just missing something really obvious, due to my NBR forum newbishness, but nonetheless... :(

Yeah - I'm not too surprised either. I would assume that a reputable distributor usually ends up with greater overhead than the average bulk seller on eBay.

By the way, I should mention my disproportionate happiness with Heartland's customer service. I think they answered (with a live human being) in two rings. Two! Maybe you're used to that, but I'm used to consumer-end distributors, where you navigate a half dozen menus, then wait on hold for 10-20 minutes. This was unsettling...

Also, the CSR who answered the phone (wish I listened when she gave her name) new exactly how to help me, and furthermore, understood the whole mk1/mk2/mk3 scheme - probably better than I do in all honesty.

Hah! You think THAT's a surprise...

According to Rick, they've actually CALLED HIM, and it weren't just cuz they were lookin' fer MONEY!

    *Faints dead away*

Remember once upon a time... there was this thing called Customer Service? Where... the customer... GOT SERVICE?

Personally, I'm not sure they're actually human as you claim... prolly more likely some shapeshifters from Alpha Centauri, whose "socialization training" consisted of reruns of "Leave it to Beaver"...

LannyBoy - By the time I figured out how to send a forum PM (I'm dense), I had already found a deal on eBay I couldn't pass up. Sorry about that.

This WTB is officially concluded. Thanks for your help, everyone.
