For sake of brevity, the short version of what I'm looking for is:

    CF-31 mk3/4/5
Working order, decent battery would be nice, no bios lock, and thats really about it.
Extras like 3g/4g/gps/extra ram/ssd would all be nice and I'd be willing to pay for a number of upgrades.

    Now the long version...

I hate posting a first post in a buy/sell section since it always seems to reek of 'scam' or at least 'not serious', but I am having a hell of a time finding a decent mk3 from a reliable source.

I messaged ohlip (also goes by teo I think?) on an auction site (not sure about rules naming sites/vendors, but we all know which auction site) but he doesn't seem to have any in stock or ready in the near future (he did say he'd keep an eye out though). I've found a few others on aforementioned auction site but with all the banter sellers put about "oh dont buy from people in cananda" or "dont buy from people who claim to be experts" or whatever else, its daunting.

All that said, I'm just looking for a CF-31 that has a 3320m i5 or better (hence accepting mk4's and 5's, etc). I'd like a native 3.0 USB port (hence excluding mk2's) but frankly, I'm damn close to just settling on a mk2 from ohlip.

I don't think my price range is unreasonable (I would love to keep it under 750ish but 1000 or maybe 1200 wouldn't be out of the question). I would, however, very much prefer to buy from an established (or at least known) member from here or one of the other TB forums.

I'm hoping to make a purchase by the end of the week (no deadline, just anxious), so any offers/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    I have a CF 31mk3.
    Nice condition.
    4 or 5,000 hours.

I'm sure we can work out a price that's fair to both of us.
We need to take this private to discuss details

    FWIW ...
you would have to go a long way to find any better guys than the "regulars" in here .
good products at fair/reasonable prices .

i know what you mean about the clamor of "don't buy from ...." over at the (in)famous auction site .
and to be honest ... and not picking on any one particular individual ... some of the prices are plain and simple over-the-top .
i suppose they are allowed to charge what they think is a *fair* price ... sometimes though , i wonder what they are thinking .
suffice it to say the the guys in here do not get anywhere near the amount of recompense for the hours put in reconditioning the machines they sell .
again , not singling out any one individual over at "that " site , some of those chaps spray a little windex on a machine and wipe it down and then call it "reconditioned" .
to be sure , there are some sellers over there that through one means or another have obtained the CF-xx machines and do not really know what is going on with them ...
sort of like the guy that sells a car and can't even change a flat tire on one .

Shawn is your guy... I just got in some MK2s that have fingerprint scanners, Gobi and GPS... All with Police Badges... LOL

I remember when it was me and one other guy on "that auction site" selling custom Toughbooks. Heck... I could name my price back then and had lines of people to pay. I couldn't get them fast enough. And that was for 800mHz CF-28s with wifi added!

When this forum really took off... There were a lot of people who would just read and take... Without giving back. In their ads then (just as today) if you know about Toughbooks... You can tell, very easily, who still doesn't have a clue over there.

I will never be a fan of the painted or powder-coated Toughbook. Panny anodized these with a silver color for a reason. The guys who paint them black and then go on to sell them as "Special Ops, Black Ops, etc" are laughable. I can just imagine the people who buy those as they play James Bond music in the background and think they are cool.

It's almost impossible for a legit seller to sell anything over there now... I know I stopped. I know what I do for and with my custom Toughbooks. Instead I have donated a few to Fire and EMS Departments and some select friends and neighbors who need them for their functionality.

Not to drag up a dead thread but just an update to say I did indeed get exactly what I was looking for from Shawn and, no surprise, he was a fantastic seller with an equally fantastic product at an amazing price (to me it was anyway). Thanks guys for all the votes of confidence in Shawn, made my decision that much easier, and now I can attest to his integrity and quality as well! And patience too since I took forever to pay... Sorry about that Shawn... I hope to maybe be able to contribute to the forum in the near future as I tinker away with it.
