Looking for new or good used here before I pull the trigger on one on fleabay.
    7K100
    HTS721010G9AT00
    Should be the model number.

Don't bother suggesting the Samsung HM160HC 160gb  . I have a 6mth old doorstop already. I am not happy with Samsung at the moment. I am back to my 40gb original drive in my cf 29.

    Newbie Question:

With specific regard to modding a 29MK1, what's ruffled your feathers with the Samsung?

Mine stopped working suddenly with no warning. It won't show up in the laptop or with a USB adapter on my desktop PC.

Your the first here that I know of that has had problems
Agree with your choice now, I would be taking out my frustrations on that drive , buy new if at all possible
As of today the 4 7200 hitachi's that I have used are all working fine as are the 2 dozen samsungs
The last hard drive failure I had was a Hitachi 40GB 4200rpm that reported smart drive sector errors , replaced with a used hitachi 60GB 5400
That drive (hitachi 60GB 5400),which is commonly used in toughbooks has never had any issues

    Thanks Alex,
I bought a used cf 29 caddy with 40gb drive installed a while back. It is a Hitachi. That's what made me investigate Hitachi. I am figuring Panasonic wanted reliable drives to install. I assume they did some homework on what to use.
I did some extremely unsubstantiated research on Newegg and found the 100gb 7200 drive to have extremely good ratings.
I can get a new pull for about $75.00.

Was there any discernible difference between the 7200 and the 5400....to the "eye" so to speak.in battery life?
Was your door stop problem a MBR error possibly? Were you dual booted at all?

General curiosity questions related to my signature.

I wasn't concerned with battery life. I did not even check power usage.
I have the media pocket battery.
The 7200 has incredibly better ratings from real users and also better performance.
Windows doesn't even show the drive to exist. I don't dual boot anything. I use a live cd of puppy linux sometimes. Some times the bios sees the drive and sometimes it doesn't.
