    That is a very kind offer!

    Here's the thing. The CF-28 this is intended for our children, 5, 11, 13, to use at home and in the car. (The 5yr old would rarely, if ever use it, and never without close supervision.)

    Would you recommend that they use an internal or external drive?

    What CD & DVD slimline drive is currently available to match and is also
    somewhat rugged? (It does not to be RW, read-only is fine.)

    She tells me that one may only buy the cd drive & cd caddy together and not the caddy alone. That is a $98. item, plus shipping.

    Sure would like to find just a caddy since I already have two good CD drives and definitely do not need to waste money on buying another plus the added weight for shipping.

    Anyone have a good cd caddy for a CF-28 they'd part with for $50.?

    They are very hard to come by as people mod $40 DVD-RW drives into them and get $200+ for them on ebay.

    I need a CD-ROM as well :(

    I think I have fallen into a nightmare!

    I just received the following quote from Heartland for a CD Caddy & drive:

    CF-VDM293U- $534.49
    CF-VDR291U- $271.62

    Is this for real?

    Whatever happened to $98.? I was choking on that, $271.62 for a caddy and DVD-read/cd-rw is absurd!

    No need for sorry! You are one of the most helpful guys out there ... now telling the world how to modify the caddy's with a cd-rw/dvd-rw has driven up the value/cost of the caddy's ... but for that you are forgiven! :)
