I'm currently reinstalling drivers after a clean install if win 7. Do I have to install Control Centre to get VAIO Power Management back and is there any way to just get Power Management without the whole CC?

Also, I just installed the Intel Graphics 4000 driver and the screen is a bit dark, will another driver fix this? The brightness keys don't seem to be working.

    I have the SVS1312C5E model.

A shell laptop is a laptop that have no standard configuration its only the shell. In other words almost everything is customize able. Thats a shell laptop. Clevo is for an example a shell laptop. And Alienware to some extent is also a shell laptop.
The MXM standard your talking about if you dont count the fact that its really hard to actually find these cards outside ebay/amazon. They have other issues. Like blank screens because of video bios aint compatible with the laptops motherboard. So sure you can upgrade on some computers. But yeah i still stand by the fact that they are extremely few you can do this on. Since the laptops started shrinking more and more this have not been a feature included in many laptops. And if it actually is possible it is reserved for "extreme" gaming laptops out side of the shell laptops. And in most of those cases its still from a special solution just for that laptop.

Hey I just ordered the SVS151190X from Sonys Outlet, it says FHD 1080p display. Is this going to be the IPS screen? I was told all the 15in SVS came with an IPS display but im not to sure.

    Thanks,
    -Mike

I am not sure about the US, but I know there are non-IPS SVS15s around.

But if the resolution is 1080 werent those all IPS screens? Did they have a cheaper option to get a non IPS screen at 1080 resolution?

    Thanks for the reply DarkImmortal.

I've added all the drivers I want including the SFEP, Shared Library and Hotkey Utilities drivers, but I still can't control brightness with the Fn + F5/F6 keys and the auto brightness and speed/stamina switch aren't working. Any ideas?

I tried looking for Control Centre for my model, but it's not available on the updates site Sony : SVS1312C5E updates | Download updates for SVS1312C5E or am I missing something?

I'm not sure if Shared Library and Hotkeys installed properly, as the don't show up under programs and features.

    Help!

I do know I've seen several SVS15 with a non-IPS screen (and the picture was pure crap) at a market here.

Can anyone post the default partition scheme for the SVS13A2PXB (256 GB RAID 0 SSD)?
I'm trying to do a complete factory reset after changing the partitioning substantially (disabled RAID, used one disk for Linux).

Does anyone knows where I can buy a screen replacement for the S15? I tried eBay but I couldn't find anything

My S15 LCD gets scratched by the keyboard/touchpad and it has developed 2 brighter spots + the usual light leaks.

I just want to get a LCD replacement to be able to sell it.

Went ahead and cancelled my non IPS 15in and ordered one with IPS, a bit faster i5, 140gb more space, 8gb more ram for $60 more! Seems there are 1080p 15in SVS WITHOUT IPS.

I know this has been asked already, but how do I turn off adaptive brightness? I turned it off in Vaio Control Center, Advanced Power Options, and the Intel Graphic Settings, but the brightness still changes.

Do the old S Series docks work with the current S Series? I don't need the 500 GB HDD in the dock so I rather save some money and buy an older dock if it works. I have the 15" S Series if that helps.

Where does the laptop intake air from? I'm currently using the laptop with the lid closed while connected to an external monitor and I wanted to make sure that it doesn't intake air through the keyboard.

Just purchased a Vaio SVS131190 and wanted to upgrade the HDD to a SSD. I have seen info on this thread as to how easy it is to remove and replace. However I have not found any info as to how I can transfer the data over from one drive to the other.

Can anyone give me some info on how to do this? And what tools or software I will need for this?

Also what SSD drives are recommended for this notebook. Thanks.

That's not what I meant to reply to.

This is what I meant to reply to.

I can do this tonight when I get home (late) if nobody does it sooner.

I didn't notice any significant heat increase laying a cloth over the keyboard and the vents aren't blocked as the lid has a gap between the vents and the lid.

I also ran into another problem. My trackpad sometimes stops working randomly. The two finger scroll or tap to click stops working but I can move and click just fine. The trackpad stopped working for about 5 minutes yesterday too. I couldn't move it or click anything but it started working again when I restarted the laptop. Does anyone else have a similar problem?

I just bought a Samsung 840 and installed it. It comes with a USB cable and data transfer software. It took about 40 minutes to copy everything from your HDD onto the SSD (while the computer is on and being used). When it's done, swap the drives and boot up like nothing happened. It has software to ensure your Windows settings are set correctly for SSD drives and done. It's very easy. Just make sure to get the Samsung drive with the cable and software.

I got a Korean friend to translate it for me, but this is what I got:
"The viewing angle of the IPS. no color distortion like Z, and some indicate dark color" (presuming there is no color distortion like there is on Z)
    The next part:
"그리고 먼저 소개하는 SB, SA 시리즈 IPS 양산화"
is wrong in Korean grammar ;)

If folks want to ask that guy something, get all questions together so I can shoot 'em in a single e-mail.
(next 3 days are a holiday and post-holiday weekend in Korea, so waiting 'till then for questions)

Or limit maximum cpu performance in such a way that the gpu doesn't hit 69°C.
Of course this is highly dependent on ambient temperatures, but if you manage to do that, it is a viable option to decrease fan noise while gaming :)

I'd just like to know which LCD he used and how difficult the mod was. We have a great thread here on using the LG IPS panel, but it did require a little dremel work so a simpler fit would be very nice.

Hey guys i just recently did aclean install on my sony vaio s (2012) (SVS151290X) (Windows 8 Pro) and i notice three issues... Can you help???

    1. My volume is barely hearable and when i put the volume level at 15% it is equivilant to being at 0% this only happens when i install the realtek audio driver on sony's website. when i uninstall it it is fine (normal) what bothers me is that before i did a clean install and had this driver installed it was fine! anyone else having this issue??

    2. When i login into windows is it normal for the screen to flash when transitioning to start screen? it was never like this before, it started doing this when i increased the text for windows on diplay control panel to 125% from 100%(default) on default it does not flash ,but when i changed it to 125% it does this annoying quick flash

    3. My touchpad icon isnt named touchpad anymore it is named built in pointing device and the turn on and off feture for it does not work

Please help guys my main issue is the volume thank you guys....

Hey guys, I've had a S13P for almost 2 months now, and I'm having issues which have forced me to perform a recovery 3 times, and I doubt any of the software I have installed (just Firefox, Chrome, Steam, Origin, some games, MS Office) is something that would cause it, so I believe I am having hardware issues.

What happens is that after 1 week or 2 of use, where everything seems fine, when the Vaio is put into sleep mode (no programs open) by closing the lid, the Vaio will remain on even after waiting a long time and not enter sleep - the screen will shut off as usual, but the power and wireless indicator lights along with the fan remain on. The Vaio becomes unresponsive to opening the lid or any other input. So, I am forced to shut it off by holding down the power button. I have no idea why this happens when it does occur, it seems to be random, and searching the web I have found no one with the same issue I am facing.

After that happens many files in the HDD appear to become corrupt (ex. I see a ton of errors in the Event Viewer, and Firefox/Chrome lose the ability to access history and bookmarks) and BSODs will eventually occur, forcing me to do a full system recovery. I don't know if the same issue that caused the sleep mode issue is to blame, or if its because of me forcing it to shut off.

I'm going to call Sony when I get the chance (I already contacted them the first time it happened and I was just told to do a system recovery), but I am just wondering if anyone knows what might be going on with my Vaio.

Fixed my brightness problem. Turns out I didn't turn off the Adaptive Brightness in the Intel settings when "On Battery".

Also read on this thread that the VGPPRS25 doesn't work on the current S15. Anyone have the answer to my third question?

Closing the lid won't substantially restrict air flow as the gap is significant.

Recently I noticed, that the lower left edge of my S13S touchpad has sunken down like a mm. its not at the same height with the frame anymore like the rest of the touchpad. Sometimes when I click on the outer edge now it doesnt work and I have to click alittle more inward.
Anybody else with this problem? Could I fix this by myself?

    Need some help here guys.

I recently purchased a S13 with Win 7. I have an upgrade key for Win 8 Pro that I want to install on a new SSD I purchased.

Can someone tell me if I will encounter any issues doing a clean install? Does the SSD need to have the original Win 7 installed on it in order to do the clean install of Win 8? Thanks.

i just recommend you reading on the sony website on the drivers page which driver goes first thats all i did it and i encountered a very minor anooying issue as mentioned in earlier post. but u prob will be fine. what ever you do dont mess with the orginal hard drive especially its recovery partition i mention this because by creating a recovery disk doesnt always work.

so does anyone else have problems with using recovery media/recovery disk created by vaio care? like i created two types of recovery disks one in a flash drive and the other on dvd's my problem is that when i boot it it runs till i click reset pc and asks me to insert recovery media and its already inside it is the media i used to boot. like on the original hard drive it works fine when i boot it using its own partition but when i cloned the hard drive the recovery doesnt work it brings me to a blue screen saying my pc needs repairs???

Hey, all. First post as my brand new Vaio S15 should be delivered this week. I've spent quite some time browsing through this forum and I'm sure I'll be using it very often and the near future.
With that, a couple of questions:
    1) One of the issues that seemed to come up often when I was researching this machine is the cursor/touchpad sensitivity issue. From what I have gathered here, that has been resolved by the most up to date driver for the touchpad as well as some quick changes to the settings. Is that right?
    2) Speakers. Can I implement the 'Asus solution' that I've read about? Or does the fact that my Vaio will have BIOS locked impact this?
    3) I now have the impression that a clean install of Win8 is the way to go when it gets here. I am planning on updating the RAM to 12, immediately, but the 750GB HDD will have to suffice, for now. So, are there any drawbacks to performing a clean install?

    Thanks in advance!

The touchpad is pretty much solved it may sometimes be a little picky but thats hardly ever for me it honestly is a great touchpad

For the speakers ive delt with this issue for months and they will not get to great there in the border line between ok and bad. this is the only issue with the machine but a bare able one

On the clean install recently ive been trying to do this but some stupid issue comes up like one driver issue ( speaker mainly) but u can easily do this just follow the steps on which driver goes first from sony web site. When u get the ssd u will see a big difference in performance

I did this and it went smoothly, beside I did this before I got my 32Gb USB Flash, so I did it with 6 DVDs... it took about an hour :) But everything works great after.

Hello, I am new to this forum and have learned a lot from the previous posts - thanks to all! Since a few weeks I own a SVS1512, did the SSD change, installed Win 8 from a recovery stick and also Ubuntu in legacy mode.

Here is my problem: everythink was working fine. After a reboot the WLAN module is OFF. The message states I shall switch it on with the hardware switch (which the SVS 1512 doesn't have). The same problem happens in both OSs. Does anyone have a clue for me - the Sony helpline can't help at all.

    Thanks!

Couple quick questions about the S 15.

    1. What type of 640M LE is in it, the Kepler or Fermi version?

    2. Is it worth getting extra ram from Sony or can you guys recommend some cheap, solid RAM that I can add in myself?

    3. Is there a greater chance of Orange gate with the older Windows 7 VAIO S 15 on Amazon than buying a Win 8 version from the Sony Store? I have a 70$ student discount at the Sony Store so prices are comparable, basically Win 8 vs Amazon's Win 7 with 2 extra gigs of ram (I would rather get the Sony Store version if its easy to add RAM).
