That's good to know Rajesh! Hopefully they will release an official version of the new driver soon and Sony will not take to long to release it too...
-
Don't count on Sony to release the newest driver. The 257.15 driver has a nvszf.inf (Sony inf) which supports a couple of Vaio GPU's. I just modded this inf to include my 8400M GT. You can do the same if your GPU is not supported. All you need to do is to find the appropriate section numbers for your GPU (find from the current working inf) and insert them in the new inf.
-
not so. I've just done a lookup either your price is without vat or it is incorrect. Both in the UK and in The Netherlands these laptops are around 1400 including VAT. I've been looking for one of these for quite some time but i really couldn't justify buying one for 1400 euro's. I've just looked up the cheapest price and it's still around the 1300 euro's.
in fact I disregarded the s11 in the first place as the entry model (core i3 and intel graphics) already costs 900 euro's. If i where to get an s11 core i5, gt310m with fingerprint reader and 500gb i would have gotten it for that price. But i wasn't able to find it in the uk or in the netherlands (or germany or belgium). -
1082 pound is around the 1307 euro so again well above the 1100 euro's. German prices do surprise me and quite frankly i haven't looked at austrian prices... too far for me to get it.
In the Netherlands that model even costs 1500 euro. You're very lucky to get it for a lower price because it's not possible in the UK and the Netherlands.
Anyhow, i didn't have the chance to get this laptop at al and was actually waiting for the asus ul30. It's by dire need that have gotten the s11 (and ofcourse because the price was right).
btw i'm seeing that it has 3g build in to it. Is it posible to add a 3g card later? i think it would be easy to have it build in and not having to add an express card to use umts. -
No - it is not possible or at least not easily possible - you need to open the entire notebook (void warranty!) and even then it is not plug&play. It's been discussed already. Much easier and cheaper to buy a UMTS stick.
You can buy it for approximately 1150 from the Netherlands as well - I did a few weeks of research before I bought it
for 1400 you can buy the i7 variant from SonyStyle
-
I havn't been able to find it in the netherlands. In fact, you can only buy the i3 version from sonystyle.nl. But the discussion is moot. I already have a s11 at the moment
as for the umts... how are you suppose to change the sim if you need open up the entire notebook to change it. Oh well. Too bad i couldn't find an european version, it had some nice features. But i'm really happy i found my s11 for the price i bought it for. -
There is just a small slot for a SIM card - it's like the MemoryCard Reader - the module is inside and there is just a small slot to insert the SIM through behind the battery. Besides the module the antenna is most likely in the monitor so you will need to open it too. Some say it also has GPS functionality which can be activated with different drivers, but I haven't experimented as I don't really need GPS on the laptop anyway. But the Qualcomm module works great - have used it with a few network operators already.
So where is yours made? China or elsewhere? Curious to find out whether the different quality you describe comes from another country... -
made in china
can you direct me to that discussion or any pictures of the internals of this laptop? -
Just use the "Search this Thread" tab and look for "WWAN". Here is one informative post from page 112:
About pictures - there aren't any of the main-board or the inside generally that I know of. -
wow... why did sony make it this hard? i thought it was just a qualcomm mini pci card. I really wasn't looking at a wwan card as i don't use it (ever). But since i'm in asia i've been noticing that i use internet outside my home a lot more than inside my home (probably because it's crap at home.
-
Has anyone replace the hd on this S series? It is from the bottom or you have to take out the keyboard from top?
-
It is in the bottom of the laptop. It's quite easy to replace.
-
Seriously dude... use that "Search this Thread" bar !! You will not only find numerous answers to your question but some pictures as well! Let's keep the thread as clean as possible... very soon we'll have 200 pages, 100 of which contain the "when is this model coming to the US" question and 50 the "How to change the HDD" one...
-
Sorry about it. Really wish we can use post #2 as a Wiki. Op, update your software. Make it mobile PDA friendly too. I thought vbulletin is a famous forum software. They dont have this feature?
-
so when is this model coming to the US and how do i change the HDD on it
-
Coming to the US? It is available at Best Buy right now and its the only place you can get it. I guess just flip it back, unscrew it and yank out the hd and put yours in.
-
Odd - I updated the Vaio Care to ver. 6.1.0.05130, released on 02.06.2010, but both Vaio Update and Vaio Care itself show that there is a "newer" Vaio Care version available and want to "update" to 5.1.0.12110 which is from 24.12.2009 !! W.T.F.!?
-
I updated the Vaio Care as well but I don't have your problem.
But my Vaio X which have BIOS R0084U4 and Vaio Update wants to downgrade to the older one R0082U4 :| -
can anyone tell me if it's normal that this s11 is running hot. I mean, it's really running extremely hot all the time. It's now the coolest it's been for a while and it's at 63 degrees. I think it normally runs 70-73 degrees
-
Absolutely NOT normal!!! Which Temp do you mean? CPU or GPU?
My CPU is currently running at 39-45 °C and the GPU 46-51 °C. The HDD has 36-37 °C.
The temp in the room is 25-26 °C.
I never had it run hot - even if under load - the fan compensates good.
The S is the coolest notebook I have ever had. -
//ignore
right now:
cpu1 64 degrees
cpu2 64 degrees
gpu 63 degrees
hdd 37 degrees
perhaps something is wrong with the clocking? it's running steadily between the clock multiplier 20 and 21 and barely ever goes to 15.
//ignore
I found the problem. The damn vaio analyzer was pulling load and there was an other program that was screwing with the power management. Right now the temp has dropped 15 degrees in the last minute and the clock has gone down to 10 instead of staying on 20/21. It's still running a tad hot though at 45 degrees and holding. But the ambient temperature is 27/28 though. Perhaps that's also the reason i get such crappy battery time.
But still i want to be able to clock back the fsb. Does anyone have a idea how i can do that? -
check what process is loading your CPU. I have numerous programs opened right now and the multiplier varies between 9x and 21x.
But 20x and 21x as you say are actually overclocking! This shouldn't be a long term state. It should only occur for short time intervals. -
Any of you use the bing 20% off now at BB to get the Vaio S? You betta hurry!
-
My 2 Month Vaio just died yesterday.
After Standby i pushed the "enter" key to come back it suddenly went off and nevver on again.
Even the Battery charging LED isnt working.
They picked it up today morning...
Grml... -
Sh*t! Keep us up to date!
P.s. "They picked it up"? Where on the planet do you live? Sony Europe does not offer "pick up" warranty. -
well it clocks right down now... temps are also lower (between 45 and 49) but the battery time is still crap. And it seems i'm needing the battery time more often as there seems to be an increase in blackouts in this building.
-
i bought in in germany, but currently im in switzerland.
Phoned at 4 PM and the next morning a postman waited with a carrying box....
edit: no special warranty, just the "normal" -
This is really strange! The Warranty offered in Germany is a no "pick up" one. I even also read information that Sony is not responsible for the condition they receive the notebook in - the owner is responsible for delivering the machine to their Service-center.
Am I wrong? I am really surprised! -
I was suprised too, when i called the service center i aspected to bring it in a sony center and have to drive to germany.
-
No, it is in fact an international warranty. But not a door-to-door one.
-
sony s and z series laptops fall under their business line of laptops which is covered by sony's world wide garantee. Services provided differ from country to country though.

Hi All,
Has anybody experienced any issues running Outlook 2010? My S11V9E is crashing all over the place. I cannot even respond to an email. I've tried removing my anti-virus software as I'd read they can cause problems. Same problems still exist. I've also tried to run Outlook in safe mode but it's still crashing.
Considering doing a clean install now. Does anybody know if it's possible to clean install the machine without all the Sony software?
Thanks, Robert. -
How are you getting 20% ?
EDIT: Never mind... found it. -
Don't know about Outlook, I use another mail-client and it runs perfectly. Haven't used Outlook the last 10 years.
Clean install - what is stopping you? You can always install from a CD/DVD and add all needed drivers.
Uninstalling the sony crap takes 15 minutes though. -
Which one? I've been wondering about maybe getting rid of Outlook, but I do really like it.
-
No idea how the 2010 version is, but I find Outlook a piece of ....
I use IncrediMail. It is by far not perfect, but the new version 2 has improved.
2 things I do NOT like about IncrediMail though:
1. When connected through WWAN, IncrediMail is not automatically checking for new mails.
2. There were (or maybe still are, not sure) some bad font and formatting issues whenever one pastes text in an email. -
I'm using Outlook 2010 and I don't have any problems so far.
-
I just found out that VPCS11V9E is no longer offered!! You can hardly find it anymore!
There are new models, whereas VPCS1 2V9E is the new one with dedicated GPU.
To be honest though - I see no difference in the specifications of VPCS11 and VPCS12, except that 12 has 6GB RAM instead of 4 !??
The price of VPCS12V9E currently starts from 1255 € which is ~ 100€ more expensive.
Any idea if there is anything else different!? -
No idea what's causing the issues with Outlook. At any rate, I have a copy of Win7 Pro so have done a clean install. Having problems with the wireless drivers available from the Sony site as follows;
Wireless LAN Driver Atheros 64 bits
1004.94 KB 22/01/2010
Wireless LAN Driver Intel 64 bits
40.33 MB 19/02/2010
WWAN Driver 64 bits
25.26 MB 22/01/2010
I cannot get any of them to work. The intel one says it's not compatible. These are all from my model on the Sony site.
I thought somebody posted up a link to help locate drivers a while back?
Also, the NVIDEA driver told me it wasn't compatible either!
Rob. -
Because of all these issues I also had when I installed a clean win copy, I now use the Sony OS version and just uninstall the crap. Costs less time and I also like a few of the Sony applications (Vaio Control Center, Vaio Care and Vaio Gate). This aside, you should have the Intel WLAN.
-
Hmm. May have screwed things up a little here. Although I backed up my important files, I never created a recovery disk. So now, I have a brand new Window's copy and cannot get any drivers to work plus no recovery disk!
-
Doing a restore from the restore partition.
Odd that most of the drivers don't work though. -
BIG mistake not to create recovery DVDs!! I even created image of them afterwords in case the DVDs get scratched!
What I would also advise you to do is to create System Image of C: once you uninstall what you don't need and install all programs you usually use and make sure everything is up and running. Next time the OS f*cks up you can restore it together with all needed software.
No idea why Win 7 isn't installing everything automatically... I guess part of the hardware is still way too "new" for 7. -
Hi, new member here! Bought the Vaio S a few weeks ago and very happy with it.
Now I want to buy one for my company too, to use it for presentations on a 55" LCD screen. However if I connect mine to the LCD using HDMI, I cant go higher duplicating the screen up to 1333*700 (or something like that).
That obviously looks odd because the screen gives black bars on the side. Is there a way to do this differently? -
The S's resolution is 1366x768. So, if you duplicate the screen, it can't go higher than this resolution.
-
wrong, i can use it 1080p duplicated or projector style
YouTube - Sony 13" S Series Laptop, Sony Satio 12.1 MP Camera Phone and Sony 40" V Series 1080p LCD TV -
The video show a extended mode, not duplicated mode. The S screen's resolution is 1366x768, I can't see how you can use 1080p on it.
-
Can it do 1920x1200 on extended?

Question about the 2nd generation vaio S laptop (so the 12 series, not the 11 series): does it still have a lose battery?
