What is the path to the Adobe RGB program you found? I can't find it on my new VGN-AW190 for the life of me!!

maybe that's the heat source - I only have one HDD, with slow 4200 RPM spin speed.

far cry 2 runs like a charm in the native resolution on medium to high settings.

enter "adobe gamma" in the start menu search field

Some changes with the AW290 CTO vs. the AW190 CTO are :

The AW290 CTO has a faster top end processor, more RAM options, it ups the lowest standard HD spec with the 7200 RPM 320 GB version, an option to configure without the blu ray player, and a lower starting CTO price.

Also saw the quick ship AW has an option in black without getting the RGB premium screen.

Woooonderful. That makes things more confusing when you order :D

EDIT: Yeah, I'm seeing a bunch of cheap 2x0 models on Amazon that are black, but presumably do NOT have LED lighting.

Hey nons, I think I need your help, would you mind testing a blu-ray movie on your laptop and see if it plays back as it should with your laptopvideo2go.com driver?

Also which driver did you download and install from that site...I have AW11S/B (Vista Home Premium 32bit) as well so I think I should download the same one as you...(to correct the overscan issue) thanks for your help.

Oh and I just noticed today that there was an update for the Blu ray player on Vaio update...for me anyway.

Andy, do not adjust anything in the Nvidia control panel. Everything should be left at default. Use the color profiles I posted earlier. Use firefox for browsing. Type about:config in URL. enable the gfx color management. compare the same two pages in explorer and firefox. you will see a night and day difference.

I'm thinking of ordering the AW 190 from New Egg or one from Sony... I don't want to pop for the Premium and don't like the shiny black as I had a HP with fingerprints everywhere...always. Is the regular HD screen still really good? I have an a FW 170 / Eco now that I need to return. I have to keep adjusting the tilt of the screen to keep the colors rich. Any ideas or thoughts would be appreciated

Can someone tell me the difference in the premium RGB screen and the regular (non-RGB) screen in The AW 190 in terms of shiny vs. matte finish?

The VGN-AW190JAH from Newegg has a screen that maybe can be best described as " sort of glossy but with a matte finish. " It is the most " non-glossy " screen that I've seen that is still considered of the " gloss type. " I own one so this is my best way to describe it. And by the way, this screen is gorgeous.

In previous posts, the RGB screen was described as more of a matte finish by some posters but depending on the USA version compared to other countries versions even that answer varied.

Thanks for your help Evoss-X . Yes VLC is an awesome player, I need to download and install it on to this beast.

So I'm going to check out this driver heaven place and then you say I need this Nvidia Modder from Physx...ok I need to google this stuff I have no clue about this stuff.

I am using driver version 7.15.11.7622 for the 9600M GT from Vaio Update.

What I have found out is that if I go to the Nvidia site and look at their drivers you have to download like a 123mb file that supports loads of different graphics cards I think...but I saw 9600M GT in the list for this driver pack and in the NVIDIA Control Panel it has loads more options than what I have at the moment to adjust the TV dimensions (this would solve the overscan issue I have with the HDMI broadcast to the Samsung LCD no?) BUT I'm too scared to download and install anything I'm not 100% sure will work because I know if things go wrong I won't be able to fix it and I will mess everything up big time and not be able to sleep.

This is a shot in the dark but my guess is YES! As far as I know there are Three AW screens the ones which comes with the titanium grey AWs (16:9 wide screen WXGA++(1680x945)X-black LCD), the ones which come with the matte black finish Aws (16:9 wide screen WXGA++(1920x1080)X-black LCD Double Lamp) and the one's which come with the piano really glossy black Aws (16:9 wide screen WXGA++(1920x1080)X-black LCD 3LED Tech.)

I would suggest KMPlayer. VLC is "okay" but has poor support for H264/MKV playback, not really configurable and flexible.

I have posted here that the default AW drivers can address the overscan issue, but it has to have the AW LCD display off to access them in the Nvidia panel and the VAIO control center.
You have two options, scale the width & height down for the external display in Nvidia panel (this is what the non-sony drivers do) or select 1768x992 in VAIO control center under HDMI Resolution and then set that as your display size in the Nvidia panel, which is what I do.

As for who's to blame, it's Samsung. HD displays should always give you the option for 1:1 or 100% display.

I'm not sure what the point of using anything from Laptopvideo2go is. Personally I'd just force Nvidia's regular driver to install. As far as I know, at best the third party products are just doing the same thing as installing it through the device manager, but at worse they could be doing something malicious.

Hi booville, I got it! Wow thanks! Huge difference. Even with this great improvement images that I open in photoshop CS4 or even with windows that look and are color accurate, when uploaded to my Livebooks websit still come out over saturated. I follow their instructions to the T. They are saved as sRBG etc.. Everthing else on firefox websites looks great accept for the Livebooks website. On other computers Livebooks websites look fine just on this monitor with firefox new adjustements, sill looks way to punchy. Thanks, Kim

Resizing blurs the text on my external display. As for higher resolution, while I do not know the inner workings of the two options, I do not think the resolution is actually changed in either option, but rather the graphic card display is simply readjusted in the 1920x1080 resolution.

    Hi

I bought a AW170Y Vaio and I really want to get rid off Vista and install Windows XP instead, is there anyway to get the proper drivers? especially the display driver because thats the only one that didn't work for me

    Thanks in advance.

Do you mean your video/GPU drivers? The display shouldn't need any drivers. You can just download Nvidia's newest reference drivers for XP, run setup (which will fail, but leave the files extracted under C:\nvidia\something) and then update the drivers through device manager, pointing it to that directory.

Also...why do you want to get rid of Vista? XP's fine, but I like using Vista on machines where I can.

I can't change the screen resultion. It was 800*600 or something. Are you sure that installing INVIDIA's ref driver would solve this issue for me?

Yes again you are right on both counts I think. I thought my TV was funny or my eyes it does blur the text a little when you resize the display on mine and the graphic card display is the only thing that readjusts to the resolution. Anyway thanks for helping me out.

    Windows 7 Build 7000 x64 & VGN-AW11Z/B

This was working nicely under Vista Ultimate x64 with the 64 bit drivers from Sony. Finding with Windows 7 that none of the soft buttons now work using the same x64 drivers. Anyone else tried Windows 7 yet on this model ?

Did that w no luck. When on with Sony Support on another issue, they claimed Adobe Gamma was not included and had to be purchased from Adobe!! Did your maching ship with it included?

By the specifications listed on your AW190 CTO, the Adobe RGB color management software is supposed to be there. Check again under accessories to see if it's bunched up with the other VAIO software or maybe under the VAIO control center. If no luck, I'd be calling Sony again to inquire about it. Just be prepared to have all your documentation of purchase to follow up on and be firm with the Sony CS rep. They can certainly be " snobbish " at times.

adobe gamma is in the control panels.

it's nothing special, just a way of generating a screen profile... but it uses your eyes and a calibration puck is so much more accurate and less easily fooled.

its because the RGB LED screens have wide gamut that can throw images out, so calibrating them helps within colour managed applications.

anyone else with the flicker on RGB LED screen?

and mine wont hold brightness either... if i dim it via the keyboard it goes back to full when the power save kicks in or if i swap from PSU to battery... if i do it via the nvidia control panel, it forgets it on restart, although the values are the same, the brightness needs nudging to dim back to where it should be...
