Thank you, falang. Add 1 rep to your account :)

I've read product description and apparently designer is advertising neat effects on wide-gamut screens. I think it's worth a try.

For now I managed to get a free spectrophotometer calibration by a friendly DTP studio.

Sony Vaio RGB LED screen is indeed nice, but I must say greens and reds on Firefox are burning my eyes. And this with 40% brightness. I hope calibration helps here.

As for a calibration-seeking people, the cheapest spectrophotometer I was able to find is Color Munki, though reviews say it has too simple design and not so many options. Real stuff starts from 1200$.

Hey, just upgraded to Windows 7 on my VGN-AW190. All the drivers installed successfully, with the exception of "Base System Device", I have no idea what this pertains to since everything seems to be working. Below is a picture of the devices Hardware ID's if that helps. Anyone have an idea what what it is?

Okay got this text message last night:

Hairy a** f*** ur comp mine u cant do s*** blue frame smartr than ur lameass spysweeper ha ha ha

I'm under the impression dark blue frames are better than light blue frames in the newest versions of Firefox and Windows-currently frames are dark blue, sometimes when I have these stalking and hacking issues frames are light blue-anybody have any feedback on this?

    Hi,
Does anyone know of a case/cover to fit the AW41 ?

I'm not after a proper laptop bag, more of a slip on cover...much like you would buy for mobile phones, just to keep dust and any spillages off etc..

    Thanks :D

    VGP-AMC8 is the official sleeve.

There are lots of unofficial ones on eBay and Amazon.

Bought them from the same seller in the US.

BTW, does nobody else have the random boot problems. After installing the new Bios my AW keeps booting up in the middle of the night. Happens every day now.

In the power plan advanced settings there's an option for wake timers. On mine this is enabled by default. I never left it on enabled long enough to see if this would do what happens to yours. Try setting this to disabled.

I think I've got the internet stalking issues under control. But, for future reference, even though this is an AW290 premium is there another thread or department which is more suited to deal with severe stalking issues of the type I wrote about?

    Which drivers?

If you're talking about VGA drivers from laptopvideo then there might be issues. The Fn brightness keys may not work and WinDVD may not play. Both are issues I had when using unofficial drivers.

They won't install unless you modify the .inf file.

And you mostly likely disable the brightenss keys and WinDVD as mentioned above.

You can download a modified .inf file from laptopvideo.

Is there any real reason for me to worry about RAID or any other advanced settings I currently don't use on the AW290 premium?

    Here are my main uses:

    writing/word processing
    web surfing
    video playback
    blu ray playback
    dvd burning
blu ray burning (but this is such a hassle I don't do it-if there were click to disc blu ray it would be so much better-as it is each file must be individually burned with one of several third party programs-I have tried but never successfully yet have burned a blu ray for archive purposes)
    audio playback

My computer skills are pretty rudimentary.

By the way regarding the stalking issues and hacking issues SpySweeper is opening a case file-among other things they're unhappy someone can turn their program off remotely (happened again this morning as I was out shopping for groceries) so it should be interesting to see what they come up with as a solution.

YOU DONT REALISE HOW BEAUTIFUL PERFORMANCE YOU CAN ACHIEVE WITH TWO SSDS IN RAID ??
WHAT U SAY : YOU CAN HAVE 2 INTELL SSDS AND YOU CAN HAVE 500MB/S SPEED read AND 200 MB/S write ?
OR 2 SAMSUNG SSD 400MB/S READ 350MB/S WRITE?

I don't have SSD's-I have two 320 GB hard drives @7200 rpm for a total of 640 GB, 585 GB of that actually usable for my purposes.

The reasons I got the AW290 were the following: LED display, true 16:9 screen (I really hope to get a 21:9 HDTV at some point when they become more common), Adobe color management (haven't used it yet) Blu Ray read/write (but the write part really isn't practical yet), 4 GB memory, 2.66 GHZ processor (pretty sure that's the option I got), beautiful design, maybe a few other things but really I'm just a guy who likes to write, web surf and watch blu ray, video and music-I don't even play computer games and never really have-not a huge interest of mine-oh, and the occassional video-I am a guy, after all...

The only complaints I really have other than the stalking and hacking (not Sony's fault) are cosmetic-wrist pad bubbling up, small panel on top lid chipping paint, silver paint chipping in front-would be nice to get that stuff fixed but it is liveable and well worth having a computer with these features over one that would be cosmetically perfect in every way but couldn't match these features.

Hello all.... i have a VGN-AW11Z/B and i dropped it, landing on the corner where the power cable goes in....

all still works, but the power cable housing, the inch long cylinder bit... is wobbly, is this part of the entire vaio case... or a separate part? anybody know before i start getting dangerous with a screwdriver?

My RAID is nice but for the apps you listed there would be little or no performance increase. Your OS might be a tad faster perhaps, in short it's nothing to lose sleep over.

For instance in your current setup you will get great HD video playback off of your optical drive anyway. If you wanted to edit uncompressed video then a RAID would be a great help.

    I'm writing a movie:

    www.myspace.com/370392338

and a TV series, but I know next to nothing about editing HD video or that aspect of it. Someone else's department entirely.

Love watching Blu Ray movies though and other HD programs. Too bad the HDTV tuner and the computer itself are not capable of receiving HD cable signals.

The other thing is my skills are so rudimentary in computers I don't even understand HTML. I don't think I want to start messing around under the hood without the foggiest notion of what I'm doing.

damak: Go here and download R3072Y2 which includes SLIC 2.1 for Win7 OEM Activation and VT support. If it says you already have the latest version then you are ok. However you may want to check whether you have 2.1 SLIC or not. There is a tool for checking this. Try Google for it.
