The fan noise during gaming can get a bit loud, but I don't have any complaints, partly because I use headphones and also because it keeps the computer quite cool. lol I actually forget that the laptop generates heat until I take my earphones out and I hear the fan whirring away.
The only part of the laptop that ever gets warm for me is the top-left area of the computer (underneath the Esc-F4 keys, which I assume is where the processor is located). I don't hear the fan while surfing the internet or typing/listening to music (I do quite a bit of word processing for class essays, papers, etc). I might have just gotten used to the noise however, because I remember one of my first impressions on getting the laptop was the fan noise, but it's less relevant to me now. I have friends who have the envy with the core i7, and let me tell you, the last thing you want is to cook eggs on your laptop.
Otherwise, no complaints. For me, the performance is well worth the noise. I used to think that the new 27" imacs were fast. I can't use them any more because they feel sluggish when I'm on flash-intensive websites like grooveshark and say, the sonystyle homepage, at the same time.
So am I happy? Yes. Am I disappointed at the fan noise? Yes, although less so than I was during my first week. Every product has its own little flaws. It's up to the end user to determine whether those little issues don't ruin their cup of tea. The fan noise and the battery life (which I am also a bit disappointed with), I can live with. Others (like all of my friends who spent $2k+ on a macbook pro), probably not.
Finally take this with a grain of salt - it's hard to say bad things about something that you have your heart/mind set on.

I am new to networking and trying to learn..could anyone offer their help to me? I have the VPCF111FD/B which has the Wireless Network adapter "Atheros AR9287", which is supposed to be Wireless N if I'm not mistaken. Secondly, I am using a Wireless N Router, which is the TrendNet 652. When I look at the Status of my Wireless Network, the connection speed is never higher than 54.0 Mbps. Is this not Wireless G speed? Am I missing something in configuration on either the router, or on my new Sony F Series? I appreciate any input. Thank you!

If you're really concerned about noise, I would recommend the i5. It has higher clocks which means you might see a performance boost in applications that aren't threaded and it'll probably get a longer battery life as well (lol this is a big probably though, I don't have any numbers).
There are some coupons here: http://www.techbargains.com/vendor_detail.cfm/208/Sony-Style-coupon-code
Might be worth looking through them -
Hello,
First post ever in a forum so apologies if I infringe any forum etiquette! First of all - amazing forum and thank you for all your posts. This was instumental in my decision to order the Sony F11Z1E/BI over a similarly spec'ed Dell XPS16.
I got mine just yesterday and have made the recovery disks usign the VAIO recovery centre.
I know there are a lot os posts out on this forum with respect to clean installs, but I don't really want to do that with my brand new machine. I would however very much appreciate some advise as to what bloatwarre I should uninstall immediately to in order to make sure it runs a smoothly as possible.
At the moment I am running the 60 day trial of McAfee but will probably install norton internet security when i get it as I understand it runs pretty much in the background now (i.e low CPU usage).
Apologies if this has already been covered but there are over 550 pages now!
With thanks in advance -

I had a fan issue with my laptop - confirmed by Sony - that caused the fan to spin at 100% at all times. Joe refused to believe that I was having an issue at all. -
Thanks. Can you confirm if the port on the enclosure be used to connect the 2.5 inch hdd to an external media player via usb2 for playback ?

It's a laptop, Joe. We're not criticizing you personally, but instead we're posting real-world experiences with the hardware. -
-Or- edit the 1st post in this thread with a weblink to page 554 with the Unification post??
Greatly appreciated if you could!

Hey mangosango, where are you configuring AA? is there an expanded version of ME2's configuration panel? Or is this through Nvidia's control panel?
I have x4AA setup in the Nvidia control panel and everything on high in ME2's configuration panel. Gameplay so far has been smooth sailing
Great job at posting benchmarks!
Btw and apologies for the off topic question here but is there any other PC game like Mass Effect in existence? I just got Star Ocean and Dragon Age for PS3 and waiting on FFXIII for which I bought this console for back in '06 -
If the sound IS the hard drive, I will let you know. The F that I am procuring for our church will be here this morning. I will put it through its paces with the stock 5400RPM 320GB HDD, then I will perform a clean install onto a 128GB Crucial SSD.
My comments will be subjective as I will not take the time to treat this as an experiment, but if the noise is present new, but goes away with the SSD, then we know at least one possible cause.

I'm splitting this thread since it is getting too large for the forum server to handle; Part 2 is here:
