You must be a liberal with all the whining going on! If you are that desperate, you can always get a less expensive computer. Or, you could always ask the Obama administration for a free one. They LOVE spending money that is not theirs!![]()

JBob please cool it with the partisan remarks. It detracts. In any case , he's only embarassing himself.
-
It's very hard to resist the opportunity for political rebuke on this one, but let's keep both conservative and liberal thoughts to other more appropriate forums no?
-
Nice pictures, thanks
Yes, it's said that partitioning the SSD is very bad idea, as it'll cause to wear off more quickly. Also it's said you should not fill the SSD more than 80%, otherwise you'll experience lower speeds. Some users even prefer to keep less than 50%. I never did a dual boot, so I'm sorry, but I can't tell if there's some workaround. Try to ask in the SSD Thread
-
Figured I'd post this here incase anyone is interested
I just purchased a Zalman ZM-NC2000 cooler for the laptop, and it fits very well. So far, it seems to work great and has definitely brought the temperatures down. I would definitely recommend it you are on the computer a lot and its getting hot :O .

Haha jammy one!

Hopefully I'm being dense and just missing something, but...From one of your earlier links here http://www.toshiba.com/taec/news/press_releases/2009/memy_09_573.jsp which is a press release about the exact drive in my Sony, (Model # THNS256GGBBAA) I gather that the drive uses "award winning 43nm MLC NAND-flash". They also say that the drives have "A proprietary wear leveling algorithm [which] optimizes the performance, reliability and lifetime of the drive." Is this the same thing as Trim? If so, then that answers my question. If not, then my concern it this: from another Toshiba site you linked in the previous post:
The THNS256GGBBAA in the Sony is not 32nm and as far as I can tell it's not part of the HG3 or SG2 series. If you could hand-hold me through your interpretation of Toshiba's information to show me how you conclude my SSD supports Trim, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks. Scott. -
some pics with the cooler
-
Sorry dappolo is nero premium???
-
that's an easy one but let me say it
with the cooler look's cool
it seem custom made, really nice. can I ask you how much for that -
nope
c'hai paura è?
-
Could you please do a benchmark on the temps with and without cooler? Here's a good template:
http://www.amazon.com/review/R23HX8C2V2Y11C/ref=cm_cr_rdp_perm
It is actually for the same cooler, but I'm wondering if it will have the same performance for this notebook. Thanks. -
Have any of you guys found a sleeve that fits the Vaio? I need something to put the laptop in to protect it while its in my backpack, no need for a big case or anything, just something that hugs the laptop.
Ps. Thanks everyone for all the fixes and help in here! -
Yes, nessuno ci fa una maledetta foto !!!!
-
No, you did not miss anything. Going back and reading through confirmed that.
No, wear leveling is not TRIM. Wear leveling is a mechanism intended to extend the life-spans of an SSD drive by spreading the wear across the entire drive, before writing/re-writing over the same spot again. Essentially, every spot on an MLC based SSD drive, can be written/re-written around 10,000 times before it could potentially fail....so what the wear-leveling does is to write/re-write over the entire 256GB drive, before re-writing to the same spot again, which in practical terms mean that the drive will not fail for at least a decade+ (more than enough for the time a laptop would be used).
Good point about this. Remember, that TRIM is a function associated with Windows 7, specifically for remedying the slowdown-over-time characteristic of SSD, and the firmware on the SSD drive simply has to be able to accomodate this built-in capability of Windows.
The 32nm devices started shipping, AFTER the introduction of Windows 7, towards the end of last year. The 43nm devices on the other hand, started shipping in August 2009, when Windows 7 was not yet released.
So extrapolating from that, it is possible that they have already updated the firmware on the 43nm devices that have shipped after the release of Windows 7 (as in the Sony Vaio F-series) but even if not, then they can release a firmware update at any future date, allowing the product to utilize TRIM. I believe an SSD drive that is under a RAID 0 architecture cannot have TRIM and you confirmed that the Sony drive is not in RAID 0. Also, I understand that the Sony drives that do have RAID 0, have a mechanism called "Background Garbage collection" or BGC, which effectively serves the same function as TRIM (prevents the slowdown of the drive over time). Thus I would say that even if TRIM is not present in this drive, BGC will certainly be there. -
yay just recived mine
Its the top model in Denmark

will follow up with my first thoughts later ;-) -
Is nero premium??? Please picsssssssss

I just got the highend European version in Premium Black.
I will post pics soon, and yes, the screen is MATTE and amazing ! -
Ok thanks !!
-
I think the Neoprene Case for FW series would do just fine.
-
I can confirm that the VAIO Display Premium with 100% adobe colors is in fact matte ;-)
-
dont know about nero premium, but mine is named Premium Black
-
I am envious of the folks in the EU, who can get their paws on a matte full-HD screen.
-
piiiiccsss
is this cto or F11Z1E?
nero premium=premium black
nero is actually black in italian -
@wii: Do you have a backlit keyboard..?
-
Sony does list this case as being compatible with the F Series on the SonyStyle site.
-
I''d also like to see the benchmark results with this cooler. I know NZXT CRYO LX is a better performer but I think Zalman is more suitable for this laptop.
-
Mine was 00000021, but I think the beginning of the serial number string contains run number and date, and maybe region, so it's just the first one off the line that day.
-
I can't find any of those in Canada; Amazon.com won't ship here, and Sonystyle.ca is out of stock. Even 16.4" cases from other brands are all out of stock or non-existent. It looks like I'll be wrapping mine in a towel when using the travel bag.
-
Pics nero premium?????
-
Ok, so are we thinking this 'Premium Black' is different or cooler than the Black here in the states, or rather on SonyStyle.com ??
-
I'd like to ask your help on the following.
I've been narrowing down my options on a new laptop, which most intensive tasks will be CAD and rendering.
Since the Vaio F11 with i7 720 is quite new, I've not been able to find benchmark results of CineBench r10 on the F11 system.
Would someone be kind enough to download (from Maxon or Guru3D) and run it on your F11 (i7 720QM/GT330M).
It's a 52Mb download, nothing has to be installed; just run the propper .exe (for x86 or x64). The test consists of 3 parts: singlecore, multicore and OpenGL. Please repport all 3 values.
Thanks in advance!
btw: my inspiron 9300 (Pentium(R) M @ 1.86GHz | MOBILITY RADEON X300 |1 Gb RAM 266Mhz | WINDOWS 32 BIT 5.1.2600 got me these lousy scores (time for sth new!):
render 1 cpu: 1425
render x cpu: ---
Open GL standard: 960 -
Shop.com might ship to Canada.
-
Nope, I will post pics soon.
-
This is the Premium Black laptop https://www.sonystyle.dk/SonyStyle/VAIO-Laptop-PCs/F-Series-16-4/VPCF11Z1E/BI.EC1
Here are some pictures
This image is with lowest setting for brightness
And this is with max setting, and it gets realy bright ;-)
When im just surfing the net, it's quiet, but starting up World of Warcraft it get kinda loud, but i was expeting that, so no problem with me.
The keyboard is not backlit in Denmark, and there some flex, but not much, you can make it go down 1mm or so if you type very hard, but with normal use i dont see any flex, and it feels good to type on.
The screen is amazing, and much better than the then Dell 2007WFP hat i'm used too. Its very sharp and have so much more details in colors. I have ordered the spyder 3 express and will get it on monday/tuesday and will post some before and after pictures.
edit: had a wrong link for the bright picture. And my camera is kinda broke and do not take the best pictures anymore, will get a new one soon -
Sorry is nero premium????
-
Thanks, I just went through the whole ordering process (with the discounted $25 bag) -- nope, they won't ship outside of Continental US. Thanks for the suggestion though.. American retailers just hate to let Canucks ever get the Good Stuff.
-
I remember that I saw it, a quick search and tadaa..

Can you post a picture in front of the screen so we can see the screen at it's best?
-
Hello srosenfeld,
I was one of the ones who requested this, but have been a bit busy this week with business. Thank you for going above and beyond. The after pictures are beautiful! This helps a lot! Looks like a colorimeter will definitely be an additional purchase with the F. -
This is the Premium Black Laptop https://www.sonystyle.dk/SonyStyle/VAIO-Laptop-PCs/F-Series-16-4/VPCF11Z1E/BI.EC1
Here are some pic from the front, but they realy dont do it justice
-
Also i cant hear that noise problem they had with the BB models over in the US
-
Can you make one with the desktop background?
-
Is the Palm rest material different on the premium?
-
Pictures were posted earlier in this thread. For the CASE style: Regular Black in Europe, - the ONLY black option here in North America, is black back, black trim, black keys, but gunmetal plinth. Premium black is SOLID black everywhere. Grey is matte silver plinth, darker grey trim, and very dark grey back.
-
Dont know if it's different, but it's a hard rubberish thing
-
Yes, it is different. The version I got did not have this rubbery texture and was closer to the texture of the touchpad in the above picture.
-
Make sure you bring it to a store and try it in the sleeve. I found one at staples made by Targus that fits it perfectly. I use it for the same reason: to protect it while its in my backpack. It was 30 dollars. I'm not sure if its a 16 " or 17".
[edit] My laptop came with a little Sony Style book with a cheap (20 dollars maybe) sleep that would probably work well. Check it out.
It was 60 (+ tax) from http://newegg.com
Regarding the benchmarks for my cooler, I honestly have no idea how to do that. If you guys can give me guidance and a few easy steps to do it (assuming it doesn't take forever
) I'd be happy to help.
