Anyone currently using a Intel centrino 6200 wireless card? Im thinking about picking one up off of the bay or amzons. I want to take advantage of my 5ghz channel on my router and im thinking about expermenting with this card. Ive seen it priced for around $30.

My main question was really to find out if people had it up and running flawlessly besides the tutorial in the unification post.

I personally use Miranda IM... It's a pain to setup, but it's customizable to a ridiculous degree.

Buy whatever wax you like :) I usually switch between Meguiars NXT2 and Jeff's Werkstat sealants. Why? Because I'm lazy and when I can afford it, I love Werkstat - it just sprays on and you wipe it in >> No buffing <3

Mothers has a really annoying smell >>

So, when i dimm the display down, FN+F5, it makes a feeping noise like the usb-noise. I also kicked it from the device manager and changed som' profiles - nothing. Does somebody know what it is ? this makes me mad :(

I've been searching around but I can't seem to find anything so forgive me if this has already been discussed:

Is there any guide out there as to what services I should keep and which I should disable/set on manual? I am mostly referring to specific Vaio ones as I have a list for general windows ones but an updated one would be nice as well. Thank you.

I have this problem as well. I wander if it can be solved with certain driver update. It Changes speed constantly, and with it pitch of whistle. Its not OK when you are working in quiet room, or in the evening when my baby son is asleep, and we lower TV sound and talk lower in livingroom. Fan dominates !

Another example: I would be kicked out of library if i took my F13 there to study :))

    Any resolution to this yet??

What i do is unplug power adapter, and let it run off the battery. Right away fan speed calms down and stays down, even if i'm in the middle of heavy video conversion process.

    any thoughts on this?

    thanks

Have you tried setting your power plan to the same settings as the one you use on battery power? My old laptop's fan was so much worse than this one that I don’t mind it enough to even bother trying to make it better. :)

    about THE DAMN FAN !

I just spoke to sony support about this.

after reseting Bios optimisation defaults which didn't help at all (not to my surprise) They told me to call higher level of tech support. So i did.
Technician assured me that it IS the fan that needs to be replaced! He said there are no drivers for it, and it should not change speed without reason and be so loud.

so they will call me within 3 days to schedule technician to come by and replace the fan.

i am not very optimistic, but i've been wrong before. Hope i'm wrong this time :)

    cheers

Certainly unbeknownst to you, you quote the famous mountaineer George Mallory in stating 'because it is there'. Because your question is here must we answer? Oh, you asked a second time so I guess we must. When is everyone here going to learn this guy is a user and a slacker. Too lazy to do basic Googling/ NBR search to his questions and now apparently too lazy to even post a question with any apparent content. Now people are answering him with cute nicknames and smiley faces. Unbelievable. Recall, this is the guy who got the number one most helpful and informed person to this thread permanently banned. Sucks for us. Now we have this instead. He has been admonished before by the mods and others. Post #5014 You just don't seem to know how to go with the give and take in a forum, instead just shouting "help me, help me!" when in fact you HAVE been helped as much as possible. Don't be fooled by the computer illiterate facade. All take with no gratitude. Shame on him once, shame on us twice.

There is no easy solution :(

    1) Get a TV with HDMI (all new HD / HD Ready Flat Screens should have at least 1) - Your F can then be connected directly in glorious full HD (1080p) or "HD Ready" 720p.

    2) Get a VGA to Video / S-Video adaptor like these ones: (quality is usually dependant on price, but I have not used any of them - using another box I had in my cupboard)

vga to s-video - Google Search

    Good luck!

Fishon, what is with your rudeness and disrespect towards me. I do search on google on issues such as the "line issue" with no results. Its people like you who accuse people like me for being lazy even though i do research and ask questions. I am having problems so i cant quickly anwser some of the users questions. I dont appreicate you insulting me, i appreiciate all the help from you guys especially anseio and you. Finally i dont understand how i got joe banned, if i did then i am SORRY.

Of topic the line occurs in all players such as VLC and WMP. I will post a screenshot when i can, as i am dealing with things at the moment.

    Starting the "feed":

    Just to make sure:

    1) is the line visible on different movies / series you are playing (just making sure it is NOT the file that has an abnormality = line).
    2) Is it visible in FULL Screen as well when played. WMP - (ALT+Enter = Full Screen), VLC - (Just hit F to enter or exit full-screen view).

Hope to see that screenshot as well (just take one where there a no noughty bits on the screen please)... ;)

Fishon is being direct with you and has most likely lost his patience. What he wrote seems accurate though.

The roll you played in JB getting banned was the same behavior that led Fishon to write what he did. Only JB lost his temper and broke forum rules for decency etc...

It's best not to jump the gun here and ask probing questions when the problem could be a multitude of things. This question is similar in vagueness to complaints of video quality on compressed HD movies with few details. Wait for Omaroo to provide enough information so that you can be helpful. Until then, IMO, it's best to only encourage him to provide the basics needed for help.

Waiting for screenshot. When life allows, get the info we need in order to help you out... THEN ask the question. You get us all riled up otherwise.

hi guys got my first sony laptop past few
So hopefully it was worth the money. My first move has been to strip out most of the sony apps bulkware etc. One thing I have been figithing with though is the fan noise i tried the sony fan patch i read about no differance. Its ok web brousing but i play wow and the laptop sounds really noisey.

Granted its a powerful gear but should the ran run so loud i installed fanspeed to have a look whats being clocked and it shows

    gpu 67c
    core 0 67c
    core 1 64c
    core 2 64c
    core 3 64c
    core 4 66c
    core 5 64c
    core 7 64c

any thoughts how to fix this issue iv read some use a cooling station but what would be one to use if your using it on your lap and also how much does it make the noise down by?

Also any you deff need to do to make the new sony f serious fly

    thanks russ

Are you using your lappy flat on a table/surface? You should consider elevating the rear by an inch or so to allow airflow.

Granted, my model is a bit lower than yours, but my CPU idle temps are between 43 and 48c. It's almost winter here, and pretty chilly anyway. During the summer, when I was benchmarking, I still couldn't get my CPU over 66c under stress.

So, I think you're numbers look a little high. Would love to hear what others think. You may want to consider a clean install rather than just stripping programs from the bloated install. Vaio_F Series Windows 7 64-bit Clean Install Guide Using OEM Recovery Discs This guide may be quite helpful.

I think the steady buzzing of the screen inverter when reducing brightness is standard to all LCDs and nothing of an issue. It occurs because the lamps are driven with less than standard voltage. Same effect as with dimmed lamps... So if it continues to bother you, just turn up all the juice and get your face burned by the brightness. ;)

And btw, +1 to Fishon for calling the troll by its name.

can anyone tell me how many fans the F12 has? and how i can check it one is failing or not. The other day I had a odd episode where when I powered up the notebook ... i heard an audible *clank* sound as the display came on.

The notebook was totally silent for about 7-10 seconds ... then all of sudden i heard the fans come on.

everything else works fine. but now i dont get that sound anymore ... so i thought maybe the fan as dying when i heard the sound ... and now is completely dead maybe? :(

    any ideas?

I couldn't say what the clank was, but all the F series only have one fan, so if you hear the fan, then it is not dead. I don't see any built-in fan diagnostics - not sure what to tell you. Does everything seem to be running normally now?

Edit: I'm not clear from your post whether the sound you're not getting anymore is the clank or the normal fan noise.... If you're comfortable taking apart your laptop, you could see if something is stuck in there. I will post a link below of how to get to the fan. But you may void your warranty taking it apart so consider that. If you think something inside, fan or otherwise, is broken and you are under warranty, it would probably be best to call Sony but it's up to you. Yes, i will certainly write about results. So far i tried everything service support suggested without any change.

The only thing that helps is unplugging power supply. Regardess of CPU usage, fan quiets down by huge margin making it very comfortable even in quiet room.

I have my power settings set manually on "ballanced" but i set it same for with power supply and with battery only. No difference. Still when power supply is plugged, fan is changing speed I'd say somewhere between 75% and 100% speed which seems unnecessary for 5% CPU usage. :) Deffinitely something is not right, or can be done better.

Tech support specifically told me that there are no settings nor drivers for fan control, so fan itself needs to be replaced.
My only hope (having half a brain) is that there is small circuit board built in on the fan that is bad, so now they will install better fan with upgraded circuitry.

    best regards

I'm thinking of buying a VAIO online, but was wondering about the reliability of B&H Photo and Video. They seem to have a decent price and a nice extended warranty that covers spills. Anyone have any opinions/input about them and their warranty?
