And one more since it is Friday. How to Untangle MP3 Headphones

Hello all, i posted this yesterday in different thread, but it got moved here somewhere 4 pages down.
I ordered F13 from Sonystyle and have basic question. It should be shipped to me Oct. 12th.
Product: US-VPCF1390X-LBOM
- i7-840
- GT425M
- Blue Ray Write 6x (upgrade from previous 4x model)
- 16.4" VIAO Full HD Premium Display 1920x1080
- 8GB 1333 RAM
- Fresh Start
- Backlit Keyboard
I bought it as it is THE ONLY LAPTOP with USB3.0 and BD 6x writer.
has anyone actually got one in USA yet?
My question is, once i get it, what do you suggest i do first as far as getting it up to full performance (with above hardware). I requested fresh start because i don't want too much pre-installed demo version programs like i got when i bought dell 6 years ago. But is that enough? should i immediately format HD and re-install windows and drivers?
thanks in advance
cheers -

BillyJack said: ↑I am not a memory expert but I will try to give some advice. Check what chip set the motherboard has and what it supports. Memory has standards so as long as the memory you buy follows the standard you should be alright. Of course keep in mind how many slots you have and how mush each slot accepts and the max the motherboard accepts. In this case it is 2 sticks of 4GB for a max of 8GB. These are good tips and should be the only thing you need to worry about but not all memory works perfectly on motherboards. Now although I mentioned some one said it worked fine on their VAIO it was not a F13. It was a Z series. Just search the feedback on Newegg. I am not sure what would be advantageous so I can't comment on that but the lower the timings the better. For example the memory I am looking at is 9-9-9-24. I looked at other memory and they all seem to be that timing so in this case I cannot find one slightly better than the other. I have always had good luck with GSkill and their memory is priced great so I use GSkill now. I was on Crucial's website and they list compatible memory for the F13 and it was the same price as the memory that I am buying on Newegg.Click to expand...
My order status changed to Payment Processed overnight and at first I thought that meant it would be shipped today. But then I realized that it's the middle of the night/early morning Saturday in China right now, which is where I'm pretty sure it was being built, and I don't have a shipment email, so I think it won't be shipped until Monday now even though they charged me last night. The ship date is still listed as Tuesday. Anyway, I should have it end of next week I guess. -

Once I had a friend visiting from out of town and I had my laptop closed and sitting on my coffee table. I came home from work and saw him sitting watching TV with his feet up (and shoes on) using my laptop as a foot rest. Fortunately it wasn't damaged, but what the hell are people thinking! -

omaroo, these pictures show the actual color of the F12 "premium black" very good! I was surprised when I unboxed mine - the internet photos gave me a wrong impression, I expected it to be more greyish. But as it is, I'd rather describe it as a polished matte metallic brown/charcoal grey. I didn't like it, especially as the color of the inner screen frame is standard grey, in plain plastic.

Nice pics omaroo - did you say you were having problems with the screen?
Also how's the i7 fan noise been for you? -
nah its brand new mate, premium black with a brilliant screen. But thing i want to know is the comment in regards to the eu screen saying there is lightbleed and other problems, will mine be the same, i thought the eu version was pure RGB adobe 100%. Also in the last screen its hard to see but there is a tiny mark which is very hard to see unless u hold the laptop up in the light. Nonetheless the awesome laptop is in great condition.

Dear all
Hope all is well
Just wanted get your comments on how 1080p hdmi connection looks on a hd LCD tv? Any issues? Does it mirror 1920x1080 on both laptop and external display at the same time? Any issues?
Also connecting your laptop to a Hifi for sound using headphone/audio out 3.5mm jack? I've heard that if the ac adaptor/power supply is plugged in there is some noise distortion through the hifi? How is it if power supply is not plugged in?
Your thoughts would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance -

Did have issues with sound while playing back blu ray movies. Previews and menus had sound, but the movies did not. Had to select something in "speaker properties". It's been a few weeks. Only done it twice, so I cannot recall the exact process. Will try to keep track the next time I do movie night at my friend's house. -
well ultimate eally has got the bitlocker program really, i might just stay with premium instead of getting ultimate. I will make recovery disk over the weekend, also if i to a clean install from the recovery disks will it be all new and delete all the junk as it will be the default version. Is that how most people done the clean install with their recovery disks.

OK just thought I'd put this to the forum. I keep losing USB drives so am looking for something a bit more integrated. My only real alternatives that are still USB compatible as I see it are:
An SD card with USB port built-in:
Amazon.com: SanDisk 4GB Ducati Edition SD Plus Card: Electronics
or an SSD with a mini-USB plug:
Wintec FileMate 48GB Ultra ExpressCard Solid State Drive 3FMS4D48M-WR - PCI-e, Mini USB 2.0 at TigerDirect.com
I'm not overly concerned with cost. Already have an SSD installed as boot drive so don't need scratch disk. Basically trying to decide whether I want to lug a cable around for the extra capacity (the SD card seems like such a brilliant idea, why didn't they expand the capacities?). 4GB is pretty weak. -

Bitlocker (encrypted Filesystem) is fine to protect your data if your Notebook get's lost and the XP-Emulation takes care of old Programs that don't run under win7. Most important thing is that you can join a Domain (if you have one!).
All these things are fine, but for me they are not worth the money.....
Best regards

that is true, but can anyone anwser my previous post, as im thinking of sticking with home, so i wouldnt need to buy home premium would i. Also what do you mean by joining a domain.

i'm too anxious for my F13 to arrive. Can someone help kill time. I have been waiting for this f13 for over 4 months to finally have USB3.0 so i can order it. I will be glad to answer any questions i can once it arrives next week.
#1 What is the size of this 16.4 screen? Vertical & horizontal measurements please (f11/12 owners)
#2 Whats the quickest way to make sure BD is indeed 6x write speed? does anyone know who makes it? is it sony or pioneer?
#3 Is chassy (body) metal or plastic?
thanks a bunch! -

No problem jpride. Looks like you will get yours before me. I can't wait to play with my wife's new laptop. lol
I am ordering the memory now and will be installing the memory once I get the laptop. I will let you know how it turns out. -
I'm also waiting for my new Vaio.
Has anyone installed the Synaptics touchpad software on his Vaio F/FW with ALPS touchpad? (As I said once, with my Synaptics touchpad/software on the Vaio GR I can use the touchpad borders as a "tracking point" when the finger runs out of touchpad space - which is essential for seamless drag and drop, but also nice for normal cursor moves. Although anseio showed us a nice drag&drop trick for ALPS software, I'd like to continue this edge motion feature, if possible)
On the Synaptics homepage, there is only one software for all, so it might more be a software than a hardware-specific driver...
Also, I have to decide on a decent Bluetooth mouse, these days. -

The red light is because the socket doubles as a Digital Audio Optical Output (S/PDIF). -

saw an F13 in a sony store today, and apart from the two blue USB 3.0 ports, and the USB/eSATA port still there, the F13 I saw didn't have a shiny silver VAIO button like the F12 has.

While trying to unplug the CMOS battery because the fan was running on perma max, I accidentally detached the black wires connected to the CMOS battery....
So, right now, I am not too sure what to do. I thought the laptop wouldn't turn on, but it seems to work fine after I press the power button.
I'm scared to use the battery with the laptop. In addition to this, every time I turn on the laptop, the time and date are wrong. I have to set the correct ones every time.
Does anyone know how I can re-attached the black wire connected to the CMOS battery? Is there a replacement for the CMOS battery for the F series? I definitely want to avoid soldering them back myself..=/
Thanks in advance! -
So guys i have been waiting for the usb 3.0 for a while because i knew just as soon as i got a laptop they would probably bring a new one out with usb 3.0 and my laptop would be old and outdated.
Now that its out I want to purchase it but now i'm not sure if i should wait for a 3D screen or not. When do u guys think Sony will bring out laptops with 3D screens? Will it be worth the wait? -

Watch out though. Cuz 6 months after that one comes out will be one that does your dishes. 4 months after that will be the one to do your laundry. And... in a year, one that duals as a back massager. It's so hard to keep up. LOL -

For the average home user, the home premium version will be enough. I think, thats why MS named it so
