Does the TT hdd accept SATA or MicroSATA connection?

Microsata as the main drive. If you've got a model without a dvd drive then you can use a 2nd SATA drive also.

I was reading this thread about noise cancelling headaphones and the VPC Z.
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/sony/501220-sony-noise-cancelling-ear-phones-came-vaio-z.html

It appears that vpc-z owners can only use a few select noise cancelling headphones for their laptop. I can use my PX200 plugged into my TT but these are not noise cancelling headphones.

At some point in time over the next couple of months i'm looking to upgrade my headphones and get this
Sennheiser PXC250i - White Headphone With Noise: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics
They are Sennheiser PXC250i noise cancelling headphones.
I'm hoping that the noise cancelling feature will work. May be i won't need to use the batteries if i'm using it with my TT as the noise cancelling circuity is built into the TT.
As i mentioned before i only buy over the head headphones.

Sony do these but for that amount of money i don't expect much good to come out of it.

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-MDRNC7...2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1284895984&sr=1-2

The original part number for the Sony headphones is MDR-NCO21LP/BM
These seem like they may be quite close.
    http://cgi.ebay.com/Sony-MDR-NC020-...er_MP3_Player_Accessories&hash=item3f0310e61d
These seem like they might be the latest model however, they seem may be a bit too cheap to be authentic but they might be.
    http://cgi.ebay.com/SONY-MDR-NC022-...er_MP3_Player_Accessories&hash=item3cb0ee4a85

    http://cgi.ebay.com/SONY-MDR-NC021-...er_MP3_Player_Accessories&hash=item3cafef6055

I might just buy one of last three above for use with my TT and still get the Sennisher for everyday use.

Does anyone knows if Sony is planning to produce a new 11.1"inch notebook? Because 10"inch is too small (W/M series) and 13"inch is a still a little bit too big (Z and S series).

I tried the noise-canceling earphones that came with my Z series on the TT and the noise canceling feature didn't work. I hate the fact that the TT's earphones are propriety, which means i can't use it with any other device.

spartacus_ck thank you. You just saved me £20 of my money there as I was going to buy the NC021. I was hoping that the 0/O might be a typo but i guess not. I believe that the Z came with the NC021.

These are different it seems, the connector looks slightly different compared to the NC0201.

BTW rachel, can you please tell me where did you get the HDMI driver from? A direct link would be great, if not could you tell me which compatible TT model did you use? I can't seem to find it.

You need the audio driver and the graphics driver for a model that came with a HDMI port. However, to get it working properly you will need to do a clean install to make sure that it is properly picked up.
When i never did a clean install i kept on getting the old settings come up however i could use it over HDMI still.

Can someone point me to where I can get Vaio Media Plus and the other required software for a full install? All I keep finding is 64bit version and I am a 32bit Win7 install.

As for noise canceling, I noticed in my startup that there noise canceling software that loads up with Windows in the background. I would think that would have to be loaded for noise canceling to fully work.

I have extracted the following from my VAIO recovery disks:

    VAIO Media Plus 1.2
    VAIO Media Plus Opening Movie
    VAIO Media Plus Setup Tool

According to the version files, all three are 32bit/64bit compatible.

If these are of use, msg me directly.

Are they exe files that I can install, because my mother just got a Vaio F, which came with Windows 7 64bit, but I noticed the vaio media plus and other files I need are 32bit. I will copy those files in the morning and see what happens. Thanks

I have these and they are awesome headphones. The noise cancelling part is like a mic and contains the battery. It`s only got a standard plug though without the little bit that appears on the sony one`s so I`m pretty sure you`d need to use it for the noise cancelling to work.

Thanks for the feedback on the Sennisher headphones.I haven't bought the Sony ones. Spartacus ck said they tried the headphones that came with the Z on their TT and it never worked. The Z i believe uses the NC201.
Of course if they have got it working on their Z then they are familar with the NC software that loads when you boot up.
There is a little NC box that loads when you boot up but i've disabled mine for now as i don't have any NC headphones.
I know you was looking for the Sony NC headphones before.
It should work just by looking at the connector but may be something is not quite the same somewhere.

So i went ahead and got the thermal paste changed to ICD7. The TT uses thermal pads which can be quite inferior to very good thermal paste. The thermal pads have been removed. My warranty has expired anyway now i think. It is about a year since i bought it.

The TT when i bought it was idiling no lower than the 40s. It now idles in the mid 30s in balanced mode and with the balanced profile in the vaio control centre. With my computer on for over an hour it is averaging about 38-40C on this website using those same settings. It was never that low before anyway. More importantly to me is that after quite intensive use-playing my bejewelled on facebook lol the underside of the laptop now feels cooler. I was a bit concerned before. I don't do undervolting also. It also runs cooler on websites that are quite flash heavy.
I think it was well worth the money me doing this.

Btw, i also bought the MDR-201 headphones, i guess i wanted to try them for myself. I probably will find that they don't work as well but still i wanted to try as the connector looks pretty much the same. I ordered it over a week ago but still don't have it yet. If i get any joy i will update.

    Hi folks,
I own a Vaio TT36GD (one year ago brought into my country from Hongkong). It works fine and does the things it must do but has some (minor) flaws: it does not accept correspondence with my Sony digital media player NWZ-S639F (even if the special Sony-program is installed) and it refuses the Windows Mobile Center program to work with my HTC Touch Pro 2 smartphone. In both cases a message appears stating that a driver can not be installed. I think it must be an Asian-Europe problem ...) Of course I can live without it as my desktop can do the tricks.
Another little problem is a high pitch sound coming from one of the components under the hood of the device. It is not constant, but intermittent. Graphics chip, CPU? I don't know?
If you do recognise one or more of these problems, please tell me.

Let us know if the headphones will work with the noise canceling feature :) .

I just did a clean install on my TT, but i can't get my fingerprint reader to work. Windows is saying it doesn't detect any biometric device, even though i've already installed the driver and UPEK software. Any suggestions?

Ok i've found a solution to it, i can't use the stock Protector Suite software from Sony, it doesn't work. I had to download the software directly from UPEK's website and now it's working.

So i got the headphones today and they work perfectly for me and perform as noise-cancelling headphones. The only thing they are not all that comfortable because most in ear headphones are too big. Also, it doesn't come with any other ear adapters. But it does though work.

I'm not sure why you were having problems Sparatcus_ck.

    Hi Rachel
Great to hear they work. Re comfort, I found much the same but after a little research came across foam tips from:

Comply? Foam Replacement Tips, Noise Reduction Earphones, and Mobile Phone Earsets with Noise Reduction.

They work well for me and have the benefit of greater sound isolation over the silicon tips shipped with the headphones.

I think that the plugs for the NC-22 should be ok?
    What ones did you buy?
I've already seemed to have lost one of the ear plugs already.
    Edited to add:
I placed an order for the ones for the NC-22 as they look about right.

Hi Rachel, I use the T-400 ones (medium size). They are available in three sizes for differing ear canal diameters - you can buy a three pack with a pair of each size. I see they are available in a wider range of colours since I last purchased mine. I'll prob go for black when I re-order.

Thanks Kendallj,i've emailed them to change my order to the T-400. I didn't click on the other ones and did think it was a bit odd that they only appeared to offer one size in the S series one. I was hoping that may be the pack would contain three different size ear plugs.

aussiehoudini, i didn't install anything special. Just the standard drivers from the Sony website. The NC seems to be a part of the audio drivers but i'm not 100% certain about that. Just make sure that you've enabled it at start up.

The noise-canceling earphones that came with the Z series has a normal 3.5mm jack, not like the TT series or the ones you just bought that has that protruding bit. That's why the noise-canceling feature won't work.

did anyone watch or read about the latest apple macbook air? i'm a mac user, but i could not get excited about this thing. yes, it's beautiful, yes, it's thin. but c2d sl9400 in this day and age? i was looking for an upgrade to my tt, but that isn't going to happen unless ULV i3 or i5 is installed in the airs.

just makes me appreciate my tt even more... it's a gorgeous thing with blu-ray!

the 11.6in is actually using the same cpu as our TT, which is the SU9400, and SU9600. You could always go slightly lower end and go with the 11.6in Acer Timeline X with ulv i5 cpu.

Well the new 11.6in Air is using the same cpu as our TT, but that is paired with a better gpu. On the other hand, many TT models support 8gb of ram(so far max for the Air is 4gb) so we have that advantage, plus we have a firewire mini, sd card slot(only the 13 Air gets that one), hdmi, finger print reader, express card slot, and longer battery all things that are useful, specially if you are a student or business traveler.

The 11.6" model as Coldmack said comes with a SU9400 and SU9600. The last gen C2D laptops with SU processors do seem to get better battery life than current i series ULV processors. With Intel's rules Apple had to opt for the integrated 320M and the last gen processors or use Intel's integrated graphics with the current ULV processors. Personally i would skip these current ULV processors now and wait. The inferior battery life gives a less than compelling reason to upgrade. Hopefully the next gen processors will be better on that front.

I'm very interested to see what Sony will do next though.

For me the 4500HD is enough. I don't game and the 4500 can handle bluray easily and my other multimedia needs such as 1080p playback. 1080p playback is smooth and never tops 40% and my 8GB ram remains at 19% usage. With 8GB of ram, SSD and U9600 my system is not even beginning to be taxed. For those that need more gaming power though it's a clear plus.

The 11.6 Air also only comes with a 34W battery so battery life is not great. This is the most important thing for me when it comes to ultraportables. Apple estimate 5hrs so it lacks autonmy. It also lacks built in WWAN which is also another necessity for me. I really wonder when Apple is going to start implementing this technology into their laptops. I to would miss the expresscard slot/sd card slot but that's not a killer. The built in bluray drive is a clear plus for me. If i was a gamer i would look into something like vidock 3 that works over the expresscard for home use.

However, the Air it does have other positive things going for it like the display and weight etc, although the display appears to be glossy and not matte. On that note my display is actually matte, when i posted months back about that i never realised that the former owner put a glossy screen protector on the display. I had like 5% doubt when i got it that something was a bit odd but overrided it, one day months later i just decided to mail them and they told me a protector was on it lol. I've since removed it.

The 320M is devised for Apple and it is designed for C2D systems. It is 40nm as opposed to the 65nm 4500HD but it's more powerful and might actually still consume more power, i don't know for sure. I did think about the possibiltes if you could get hold of a MBP/MA motherboard. It probably wouldn't even fit and then you may brick your TT and also the power management et al will likely 95% not work.

    Hi everyone,

Please can you tell me if the TT is still available in Japan on the Sony Vaio website?

I posted back in August and because I'm so damn slow and lazy, I never sent my specs over to Pricejapan to pay them via Paypal and ship one over to me in the UK.

I'm going to be gutted if they've stopped selling them.

Here is the last link I had:

    VGN-TT93HSEVGN-TT93GSEVGN-TT93FS - Sony Style

Can anyone send me an up to date link if it is still for sale?

Excuse me if I am being dense but I don't see the TT anywhere on that site.

Please could you post a direct link if you have it.

Specifically I'm looking for the page where you can configure the TT to your own requirements.

A previous poster gave me an excellent list to choose from as follows:

Would be very VERY grateful if you could post that link (but I've got a bad feeling it's been discontinued.)

alexpeters, it does look like you've missed it as the link is now dead. As Zimbros12 wrote probably ebay or the clearance store in the US would be a good bet. Also, you could possibly do what aussiehoudini did and get one through yahoo auctions delivered to you directly.

On another note there are also some new 1.8 SSD's out there. I really wish there was a review of them all especially with regards to power consumption. Now there is a Kinsgton v+ 64GB/128GB/256GB SSD. I think this is a rebaged Toshiba. Also, there is as we know the Samsung PBJJ2/PM800, Intel, OCZ Vertez 2 /OCZ Onyx and the Crucial M225/C300. The Kingston looks interesting because power consumption is very low and has boosted peoples' battery life in other laptops and it is a good performer also.

    Folks,
I was wondering if anyone of you has had issues with the TT's GPS (based on UNDP-1 Gobi 1000 - US model).
The gps receives data (can see that when using VisualGPS) but it never gets a location fix/lock. Looking at the gps sentences, it seems that either the signals are not strong enough or the data gets corrupted or the antenna has a problem or ??? Since it happens anywhere, something seems wrong.
I added a SIM-slot to the IFX-517 board (WWAN) to be able to use the Verizon CDMA network in the US as well as GSM/UMTS/HSDPA networks in Europe. Could that cause any interferences?
If anyone has an idea, please let me know. Thanks.

Sony does not sell TT's anymore, not even in Japan.
I would recommend buying this Sony VAIO VGN-TT290YBB
I've got my TT290 there and I'm extremely happy with it. At the current price it even includes a Blu-ray writer and you could add another SSD later.

Hi I to have the Gobi card and use it in the EU. I don't use GPS, i don't even drive. There was some discussion earlier about people not being able to get the GPS working in W7.
However, may be this thread will be helpful. The VGN Z3-Z5 in the EU used the Gobi 1000 card. The earlier models used an Option card. Of course the VGN models in the US used a Gobi card so a lot of the advice should apply to TT.

Thanks Rachel, I looked through the comments and since I could not find anything, I reposted my question there.
Seems very weird that my gps is working (shows that it receives data) but that it can not get a lock. I've looked everywhere but no one has yet talked about something like that.

    Hi everyone!,

I've just bought a VGN-TT15V (model PCG-4Q1M) off of eBay and was wondering what would be the maximum memory I can expand it to. So far I haven't had much luck getting 100% reliable information on wether this would support 8GB or only 4GB.

Any TT1(5V) owners out there that can shed some light on this ? :)

As far as I know, all TTs can handle 2x4GB=8GB even though Sony will tell you that the max is 2x2=4 for most models.
For the latest models that came with W7 pre-installed, Sony will acknowledge 8GB support but none of those models were sold in the US in my opinion.

OK, this is weird. I bought a set of noise cancelling earphones (the one's with the plug that has the little bit on it) and it doesn't seem to want to plug in. I am not forcing it too hard at the moment but does anyone know if the TT's all came with the noise cancelling function and plug? The plug hole seems to look a little different to a normal round 3.5 but the new plug doesn't fit. Is it a stiff fit to start?

undir TT owners with a TT1 have upgraded to 8GB. Is TT15V a customised model? The motherboards are all the same so i don't see why you should have any problems. You might possibly though need to upgrade your BIOS the latest one.

aussiehoundini it should work. It's not a normal headphone jack. It should fit in the headphone jack, just look at design of it and the headphone jack and match it up.

I recently purchased a second hand TT46. It came with 4GB RAM. Although spec says the model can expand to 8GB, I don't see any empty memory slot available. There is only one in the machine and it was used by a 2GB RAM module. So, I have no idea how to increase RAM from 4GB to 8GB.
    Any idea?
