Rachel which browser are you using ? I'm using chrome and it already comes with built in flash I think but I dont know if it is the latest version. I will try running it with explorer when I get back home.
Can it be a driver issue ? Which drivers would effect cpu and gpu performance directly ? I'm also getting 4.1 for cpu in windows index and 3.2 for graphics. Is that normal ?
-
IE8, 3.2 is normal and 4.1 sounds about right for the SU9300.
I posted this earlier but i'll repost it, this is mine. I've also got an SSD and 8GB of ram.

Hi,
I have a Vaio TT21JN, i want to upgrade it to a blu ray writer, what model drive does the TT21JN come with? and what are the compatible drives? I'm currently looking at Panasonic UJ-232 232A 9.5mm Blu-Ray drive.
Thanks in advance! -
Look in your device manager to determine what drive your laptop comes with because Sony TT's come with with two different drives.
If it is a Panasonic DVD drive it can be upgraded to the BD Panasonic drive easily. If not and you a ADXXX drive you need to purchase the BD bezel from Sony parts.
-
Thanks, ill take a look.
Also will the TT21JN accept PC10666 ram? -
Yes, PC8500 1066mhz ram will though run at 800mhz which is the limitation of the chipset.
-
Well Friends My TT days are over!!! Well not completely, this is going to my wife it's a nice little laptop for her. I am going after the Fujitsu T580! That thing ROCKS. No Optical drive is the only difference besides the screen size.
It is more portable and just what I want, funny I know. The smaller the screen the better for me. That is my Niche product between my old HTC Shift and my Sony TT. It balances PERFECT! Sorry I had to let this go, I would have bought a new TT with a better processor and Video card if they made one. I will now only have for myself my Alienware M11x, Ipad, and now my Fujitsu T580
Ill stil sneak in here from time to time though! See how the TT lives on! -
I've just upgraded to Windows 7 and im having a few probllems,
firstly Windows 7 cant find the WWan card its the option gtm382, ive gone to the option site and entered my imei and installed the software but still nothing.
Secondly, the vista install had a tray icon where you could cut the power to the dvd drive, i cant find the download for windows 7, anyonw know where to download it?
Finally, the vista install had the connectivity box that was allways on the desktop where you could disable wifi, wwan, bluetooth etc, i cant fin that download for windows 7 either.
Any help will be appreciated.

I wrote here how to get the WWAN working for the GTM382W card in the EU TT's. You need to turn the WWAN on with the smart network in order for the WWAN to be found.

I'm using the TT4 drivers for W7 and don't have any issues.
VAIO : Sony Europe
It sounds like you've missed out some essential drivers. It's essential that you install the graphics drivers, chipset, Setting Utility Series,
SFEP and SPIC Driver which will require you to install these in the device manager. It's also essential to install the Sony Shared Library, smart network, VAIO Control Center and the event service. Also check updates for your model for the smart network.
It's also strongly recommended that you install the majority of the other drivers bar the wwan deriver.
guyyyy, good luck with your new laptop.

Anyone using an external display with their TT using the VGA connection? When I hook it up to a high resolution monitor, it's pretty blurry (yes, I have the right resolution settings). Just wonder if it is the 4500MHD or the fact that I'm using the VGA and not the HDMI found on other models. If the later is the case, I might try to find a port replicator.

Dont rush for the Fujitsu before you check out the Panasonic Toughbook CF-J9, 10.1" screen with a core i3, i5, or i7 processor! -
Please let me know what other information you have on this?
Thanks!
By the way I am extremly interested.

Could anyone here help with my question of replacing the hdd with an ssd?
I have trawled through all the pages of this thread and others and it has got fairly confusing exactly what I need for hdd replacement with so many different regional models of the tt.
I have the 120gb Toshiba MK1617GSG and want to replace it with either a 128gb or 256gb SSD. Are there any SSD models that would require no extra parts to fit in place of the hdd? ie. it would fit the connector and caddy already present? and if there are, what are their model numbers?
Also, one other question, am I right in saying that the tt processor (mine is a 1.2) can be replaced with either the SU9600, SL9400 or SL9600?
cheers for any help! -
fmc159 the only time you would need another connector is if you wanted to go for RAID drives or if you wanted to swap to a SSD/HD model and you had the HD/DVD model. You just need a 1.8 microSata drive and it will be a straight swap. The Toshiba drive is a 1.8 microSata drive.
In regards to the CPU it is possible but you would need a BGA job. -
cheers Rachel, very helpful. Btw what manufacturer and price was the 256gb ssd you put in your tt?
-
It's a Samsung 256 GB MMDPE56GTDXP-MVB uSata PB22-CS3 FDE which is a microSata drive but the difference is that it doesn't have any casing so it weighs less.
I bought it for £250 back in July 2010 on ebay. I think though the Kingston 1.8 drive that you can now purchase through retailers uses the same controller but i'm not sure about that so may be look into it if you're interested.
-
Is it still a straight swap even with the ssd's with no casing? I see quite a few micro satas on ebay with no casing. Also, I don't suppose you'd know any uk suppliers (or at least places delivering to the uk) that would have the parts to fit the uj232a? annoyingly my tt11wn came with the optiarc drive so I can't just do the straight swap.
-
Yes, it's still a straight swap, lol the name escapes me now but i think that the original drive has got black rubber that support it. Just take those of and use it and you'll be fine.
You could try and get the bezel from Sony direct. Just contact them through the helpline and say see if they will sell you the bezel.

Just log in with your serial number to get their contact details.
sparepartswarehouse ship to the UK but international shipping is quite high.

In the Netherlands you can buy the Kingston SSD with the microsata interface
Kingston SVP180S2/128G (250 euro)
Kingston SVP180S2/256G (550 euro)
HDD read speed 230MB/s
HDD write speed 180MB/s
Trim support
Thinking about upgrading to the 128Gb version myself. The 120Gb HDD 4200 is real slow. My TT is currently my backup laptop for my Z -
The Kingston and Samsung are balanced performers and some people demand up to 256GB of storage which is what these drives offer. If you can manage with less storage space the Intel is a more performance orienated drive that you should may be take a look at. TT owners here who upgraded are pleased with their drive. I should imagine that you can get the Intel for not much more than the Kingston. The Renice x3 might also be worth consideration.
nando4 started a thread about the current available microSata drives. It's worth a read.
May be others can supply benchmarks also.

-
I edited my other post, the Renice x3 which uses the Sandforce controller is worth a look. There is a 1.8 microsata version of the Intel drive and it is the X18-M, the 2.5 version is X25-M.

folks what is the latest and the greatest touchpad driver for tt ?
-
Hi guys,
Was looking for TT290 and setting up Noise Cancelling headphones however didn't see the "NC" icon and don't know where to get it started up. Did Win 7 Ulti install, thanks
Also will have a TT180C for sale soon, maybe with 128SSD... -
The NC software is contained in the audio drivers.
May be my thread here will help.

Thank much, will look into it further.

Just upgraded my 120GB HDD to a Kingston SSDNow V+180 SVP180S2/128G. The speed/response increase is huge from a 5400RPM HDD to a SSD
. Benchmarking shows it's lower then the specs from Kingston. This may be due to the architecture of the TT.
-
That's great, may be you could run Crystal disk mark 3 at 500MB if and when you have the time. You can upload it to the forum. The original drive is 5,400rpm.
Download Center - Crystal Dew World
I found that with my microSata 1.8 drive in my TT benches a little lower than my 2.5 eqiv Sata drive.
-
Normally it wouldn't be a problem but for security reasons the laptop SSD is fully bitlockered. This has a big performance impact on the drive. You're correct regarding the 5400RPM. Thought it was 4200RPM because the startup was real slow.

I bought a Samsung 256 GB MMDPE56GTDXP-MVB uSata
who still have the link to open the TT to change the hard drive ? -

+1, I disassembled my TT with that guide last saturday, once I get it arrived.
I found some minor differences between the model at the photos and mine (in terms of couple screw locations/lenghts), but it was very helpful anyway.
btw, what 3G should be inside of TT21?
I believe Rachel said it should be GTM382W, but mine says it's a regular GTM382 (in GlobeTrotter Connect diagnostic screen). I've managed to get GPS to work, in Standalone mode for now. I'm doing some further investigation to get A-GPS (Assisted) mode working.
UPD: I'd also like to [re-]share some experience. I installed 32-bit Win7 on my TT21, all drivers/software from original 32-bit Vista were ok, except SmartNetwork.
For some reason, it has some weird issues enabling/disabling 3G modem (Bluetooth and Wi-Fi were ok). Eventually I fixed it by installing 3.x version of SmartNetwork (from some TT4x model) instead of original 2.3 version. I saw something about "future" version of SmartNetwork installed on older TT, but can't remember clearly, was it about plain 32-bit install, or about 64-bit adventures. -
There are different types of GTM382 cards and if it's a MO0402 it is indeed the GTM382W. You should find this out also by putting the IMEI into the Option website. The GTM382E is a MO0401. The worldwide cards at least were used in TT EU models that i have seen/read about.

Hmm, my IMEI recognized as 382 W by Option support website.
Another interesting fact: AFAIR, Sony hasn't marketed TT's GPS functionality; they didn't even provided any tool to actually control the GPS module (though it can be easily done by issuing the commands to respective GPS Control COM port or writing a very basic application).
But what is interesting: it looks like they provided all required hardware infrastructure for GPS part of GTM382. I didn't look at it when I disassembled my TT, but according the fact I was able to fix my position with GPS, there should be dedicated GPS antenna placed in laptop and wired to GTM382's GPS socket.
If there was no dedicated GPS antenna, the GPS would not work at all; 3G and GPS antennas are completely independent of each other. -
wow, that's cool, I didn't know about the gps, let me know what progress you make!
-
In general, the S-GPS is quite easy.
1) If necessary, enable the GPS interface as described here: Option - How to enable GPS on your GTM382 module?
In my case, it was already enabled for some reason
2) After that, you need to issue one command to "GPS Control Interface" COM port: "AT_OGPS=2", after that you can read GPS data from "GPS Data Interface" COM port with any appropriate GPS software, I tested Garmin Mobile PC, it was ok, though cold start in S-GPS mode took about 15 minutes indoor.
When you don't need GPS, you can stop it from fixing position with another AT command: "AT_OGPS=0". -
-
Yea, cheers i found that webpage, my gps was enabled already as well.

Does anybody know, what type of actual protection is actually used with Vaio HDD Password?
Official Sony website says that if you lost both your HDD Passwords (Master & User), "the data cannot be retrieved by any mean".
From my perspective, the only implementation that can guarantee (or near-guarantee) the quoted protection level is the full-disk physical encryption. I failed to find any actual implementation details on Sony HDD password protection feature.
Also, enabled HDD password feature stops Vaio from booting from external devices without entering the password, so boot from livecd and take a detailed look at the HDD contents is not an option.
Did anybody tried to take out a HDD from hdd-password-protected vaio and inspect its contents on another computer? -
Hi,
It seems that the TT will finally have a follow-up.
Sony shows off VAIO laptop with AMD Zacate goodness inside (hands-on) - Engadget Galleries
sorry if these are old news for you. -
wow, a new macbook vaio
-
I don't really see the YA/YB series as a true TT replacement. TT was higher end and this is more of a budget line. It's good though that Sony is offering this series.
I also prefer the 11.1 form factor and sub 3lbs also when it comes to <12.1 ultraportables. -
BTW, Rachel, that laptop with a black keyboard, it looks kinda like the way I was going to change to my TT. But most likely I'll stay with silver keyboard, it really ROCKS in terms of durability, you were completely right about it.
-
It's still being a very long wait for a new model in the Vaio "T series"; that is: a new model to replace the TT. How is the timing now, on the basis of Sony's history of launching new models (time intervals)? Anyone who knows something about this?
-
Recently I had an opportunity to see and play with a 'Z' - quite impressed. I think if I had to replace my TT, the Z would do the job well. On the whole it's not hugely bigger than the TT and the build quality is awesome.
Also played with the new VAIO 'YA' - quite impressive but definitely not in the TT Class. Certainly it's well built, but the screen, keyboard and case materials are not in the same league as a TT. No optical drive of course (which makes it unattractive for my uses), but pricing wise you can see Sony's intention to compete with the like of similar spec models from Acer and Lenovo. Be interesting to see how it reviews.
