    Rachel,
Thanks for quick reply. The computer is black so does that mean that the first part number is for a combination of individual parts that includes the hinge cover, ethernet door cover, hdmi cover for the black option?
What is included in TRIM VGA?

It is tough to make sure I get the right thing when pictures or diagrams are not available.

There are two different types of assy doors. Some models have a ethenet/modem door and some have a ethernet/HDMI door. The former was not sold in the US. That is the correct part according to the service manual.

The trim cover is just that the silver trim cover.

Hi Rachel, I think rather than the covers for the various ports the previous poster meant the cover for the power button and the cover for the AC adapter socket. Do you know what these part numbers are? Also, do you have the service manual or know where I can find it?

    Thanks

I see, reading back the above post that sounds right.

You can identify the parts you need from the below images.

You can purchase the manual from Sony service parts or if you PM me with an email i can send you a copy.

My experience with sony uk (viao) was terrible and that was whilst it was still in warranty.

TT great laptop apart from keyboard failure and chrome(plastic) power button cover cracking

My TT Complete with sony bluetooth mouse and vaio slip cover
replacement keyboard minus the factory stickers

why are there no stickys here? would be great to find sub folders of various TT related subjects in one place..
    i.e. ssd from sata conversion

    Hi,

I have a friend (no seriously) who has upgraded their VAIO VGN-TT11LN laptop to Windows 7 (32bit). All the drivers have worked (some W7, some Vista from the VAIO site).

Unfortunately there is one thing missing, the 3G (EVDO) WWAN card.

I have downloaded the Vista installer and ran it but nothing happens. I've scoured the internet trying to find the brand and model installed so I can get the drivers from the manufacturers website instead but everywhere just calls it a WWAN card (even the specifications section of the Sony website).

I also tried downloading the Vista driver and extracting the individual driver files from the MSI and manually installing it but no luck.

    Does anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks

    Bob

This sounds like an EU model. I wrote a min guide here how to get the Option wwan working with the Option connection software.

    Hi Rachel,

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly - you are 100% correct this is an EU model (sorry - should have mentioned that).

I must confess I'm a little confused by opening paragraph ("I got a EU Sony TT GTM382W card and i swapped it with a Sony Gobi 1000 card that was used in the US TT models and some VGN Z models. I have to say i do prefer the Gobi card and have swapped back. The Gobi software is actually lighter, power run time was nearly the same. I was also losing the EVDO networks so i changed back.").

Just to clarify, are you saying the EU model is an Option or Gobi WWAN card?

If so, do you have the website address for Option?

Also you, thread mentions "make sure that you see driver install faliure when you reboot instead of W7 auto installing the drivers". The problem I have is that I'm not getting an error when I install the (Vista) drivers from the Sony website - just nothing is happening. I have a device showing in the Device Manager that still has no driver (it has the oft-used "Base System Device" description) so I'm assuming that is the WWAN card.

Any ideas or help would be much apprecaited!

    Thanks

    Bob

P.S. I'm currently trying to solve this for a friend 4000 miles away via LogMeIn so it's a already tricky!

I tested the EU Option wwan card and that guide is for the Option card. I was just noting at the start of that post that i actually prefer the Gobi card that North American models came with. The EU model uses an Option card.

This is the Option website link
    Software download | Option

Well just uninstall what you've installed and restart. Because no software is installed you should get driver install faliure because no drivers can be found. May be like in the C drive because it could be auto installing the drivers. If this doesn't happen may be just try installing the drivers anyway.

    Hi Rachel,

Just a quick update, I managed to track down the Option website (they don't have great SEO do they!) and entered the IMEI number, which gave me these options:

    Software download | Option

From what I understand of your referenced thread, it assumes you already have the drivers installed but as I didn't and there now seems to be a driver specifically made for Windows 7, I downloaded and installed that. It installed ok, prompted me to reboot - which I did - but I still cannot see any options for WWAN. I followed the instructions to connect to a WWAN using Windows Mobile Broadband as per this article:

Use mobile broadband to connect to the Internet

But the laptop doesn't appear to be seeing any cellular networks and I still don't see anything I recognise as a WWAN modem in Device Manager (and I still have the suspicious 'Base System Device' lacking a driver).

If anyone has any ideas it would be much appreciated!

    Thanks

    Bob

    Hi Rachel,

Thanks again for the super-speedy responses. I've tried installing both of the drivers from the download page of the option site (as selected by my IMEI number) but neither of them gives an error and neither of them seems to install the WWAN device in Device Manager. I've tried manually installing the drivers for the only unidentified device in device manager (Base System Device) but when I do, I'm presented with a vast list of possible hardware options to install.

I also noticed that the driver on the Sony website is classed as a Novatel device as opposed to Option, although my IMEI number worked on the Option site so now I have no idea what device is in there! :-D

I installed "Unknown Device Identifier" ( Unknown Device Identifier - Freeware Download) and this helped me clear up the ambiguous "Base System Device", it seems that the Richoh MS reader uses a seperate driver to the Ricoh SD reader and had to be manually installed.

So in summary, I now have zero unidentified devices in device manager but nothing showing up as a WWAN card.

Can anyone confirm what the WWAN card show up as in their Sony TTxxxx device manager?

Thanks again to Rachel and everyone!

I assume that you've turned the wwan on first with smart network?
Others have followed that guide with no problems so i'm not sure why you're having issues.

    Hi Rachel,

I'm not actually physically at the laptop (4000 miles away!) but I called the user and asked them to check and double check whether there is any switch, button or keyboard combination to turn on the WWAN - they said they couldn't see anything.

Can you describe how you turn yours on for your TTxxxx?

Thanks again for the quick responses and help

There is a switch to turn wifi/wwan on off but i presume that they've already done that. To turn wwan on you need to use smart network and you should find that in the taskbar.
Uninstall smart network in the control panel and install this version and then restart. That version works better with W7 and works for 32bit/64bit.

Btw, totally unrelated to this but Flash 10.2 utilises gpu acceleration much more than previous versions so install it. Doing so enabled me to play 1080p smoothly with a 743 1.3 single core celeron processor/ssd/4gb of ram using IE.

Yes, you can do these upgrades.

I added HDMI to my notebook and removed the dial up modem.
The part you need is on ebay
the HDMI board-A-1599-655-A and connection cable 1-877-112-11. Sony VAIO VGN-TT HDMI BOARD & RIBBON 1-877-370-11 | eBay UK

Going further and changing the cover to one that says HDMI instead of the modem is just comestic. I did this but it's not necessary to. The above part is all what you really need.
However, if you want to do this you need-

    X-2318-649-2 ASSY DOOR ETHER HDMI/BSS [Black/Premium Carbon/Red]

X-2318-652-2 ASSY DOOR ETHER HDMI/NSS [Gold]

X-2320-798-1 ASSY DOOR ETHER HDMI/WSS [White]

WWAN upgrade you need a (IFX-517) A-1599-658-A, this part is the daughterboard and is the US board. It comes without a sim holder on the board. In parts of the world where a sim holder was used this is the board that's used A-1599-659-A. Although, your best bet of getting the EU board that comes with a sim holder is on ebay as it's not sold in the US Sony parts store.
You also could solder a sim holder to a US sim board.

A EU board however might be on ebay-

Sony VAIO VGN-TT IFX-517 WWAN board 1-877-105-11 TESTED | eBay UK

You also need the connection cable 1-835-788-11 and antenna 1-754-611-11and 1-754-612-11 .

You of course also need the wwan card and an Option GTM382W was used in the EU models and a Gobi 1000 was used in the North American models.
SONY VAIO VGN-TT11N WIFI WIRELESS CARD WWAN 3G WCDMA | eBay
The sim card is covered over but you can remove that. It's located where the battery goes.

To do the SSD upgrade you need to purchase a micro Sata 1.8 SSD.

    Edited to add:
This is the complete wwan part, obviously it does not come with the antenna. You could contact a seller on ebay to see if they have the antenna, sometimes they just don't list all the parts that they have.

    Tks!

Hi the pdf you attached is what i would have pointed out you to, only that the info in that pdf seems to come from a different original source.

Take a look at this thread if you want to do the RAID upgrade. It will point out to you the parts that you need to buy.
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/son...grade-crappy-slow-hdd-rocking-fast-ssd-5.html

If you don't want to do RAID then you don't need to purchase another cable.

Hi All, I've just successfully installed win7 64bit on my tt. This forum was a big help. Who'd have thought you would need to install the drivers and software in a specific order...

Does anyone use the noise cancelling headphones? The don't seem to work for me. I can adjust the amount of noise cancelling though the settings but it just seems to amplify external noise rather than cancel it. Is this normal? If not any thoughts on how to solve?

It´s that way. You have to fit well to the ear. If you adjust the settings to much, it will amplify the external noise.

Hi i think i mentioned in another post that you need to purchase a UJ232A drive. I'm using a Dell one and it works fine.

Not all Sony TT models come with the built in noise cancelling hardware.

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/6883302-post1817.html

Mine came equipped with the built in hardware and i just purchased some SONY MDR-NC021 from ebay. It cost me less than £10. Some of these earphones will come with the knotch that is needed but some don't. If you're looking to buy contact a seller first to establish that these are the earphones that you need.

Interesting. The headphones actually don't appear to cancel any external noise. Just seem to amplify no matter what settings I choose. It's not a big deal as it's not the reason I bought the laptop. Have other people found that the noise cancelling works at all or works well?

Does anyone know where I can get a replacement keyboard? I just need the keyboard. The one supplier, Pelltechnology, cancelled my order, saying there was shortage of supply. Nothing on ebay for months.

I'm assuming if all else fails, I can order one from Sony, but I believe a part number is needed?

I did try them, thanks. If you jump through all identify-the-computer hoops, they don't have anything related to a keyboard. I don't know if I'm having difficulty finding one because the darn things were so much trouble back in the day or there just aren't any parts around.

The j key and windows key hinges are completely different than the rest and very fragile. I emailed all the replacement key places with photos and they didn't know this. I've noticed now none of them offer replacement keys for the tt anymore. Then the j and k keys just stopped working, so I need to replace the keyboard.

thanks, but some of the keys don't work at all anymore unless I use the on screen keyboard MS has in its accessories section. Looking at some of the specs, I think the easiest thing may be to order the entire keyboard and bezel/palmrest if I do it myself. Otherwise I may have to send it in to Sony. Ugh.

Something of an update. I failed to mention that I have a spare 190 that I use for printing and scanning only. I disassembled both and swapped out the entire bezels of both. I made two crude diagrams and taped every screw to the diagrams to keep them straight.

Worked like a charm. The backup now has the faulty keyboard and the main TT190 has a fully functional one.

If I decide to fix the backup at some point, has anyone changed just the keyboard? I've read all posts related to keyboards here, but even Rachel appears to have used Sony to replace her keyboard. No one else has given specifics, just posted success stories. If I purchase the palm/keyboard combo, it looks like the mousepad and button controllers do not come with it. Anyone have experience transferring those over to a new bezel?

    Thanks

The keyboard is sold as one unit. You cannot just buy the keyboard on it's own from Sony but you could remove the keyboard from the palm but it's not that straightforward to do. Obviously these TT's came in different colours /for regions so there is just not a single part number.
It's not hard to switch the trackpad buttons. I've opened my laptop several times and reattached the trackpad connector and to me it doesn't look that hard to remove it. I know that zero endorphine has done this when they added a TPM and fingerprint reader mod to their laptop.

Thanks! It looks like the audio panel and the fingerprint reader would have to be moved too. I use the fingerprint reader daily. I actually know people who are paranoid to use fingerprint readers, but that's another post.

Firstly, hi I'm new here. I've had a TX since 2006, which has burned throguh 2 HD's and about 6 batteries. I fitted it with a Kingspec 128GB SSD about a year ago and I love it to bits, but it is just reaching the end of its useful life. I've worn all the paint off the wrist guards, the space bar and the "N" key. The screen has keyboard shaped wear marks on it and I've dropped it twice in the last year so it has a couple of slightly second-hand bits. This machine has been on pretty much 24/7 since 2006, so it has had a _hard_ life.

As a result the TX has been relegated to backup machine in place of a brand new VGN-TT15GN (complete with international warranty that I just voided). In the 2 days I've had it, I've put an X-18M 160GB SSD in it, flashed the dvd with some region-free firmware and popped in some more ram.

I've just ordered a WWAN board and associated antennae, and a iwl6300 wifi board. Can someone point me at an exploded view of where the WWAN antennae go in the LCD bezel?

I'd dearly love a service manual if one was available, but thus far I've been unable to locate one. For the purposes of this upgrade a photo or parts diagram would suffice.

Drivers are no issue for me as I don't play in the Windows sandpit (this machine came with a Win7 upgrade, but it's been relegated to 20GB of the disk (for those annoying Windows only apps that don't run well in a VM).

Can anyone help me? (pretty please with sugar on top)

I got a question on HDD on Vaio TT290. Can I integrate two SSD 256 GB instead of one 160 GB SATA drive and still keep the DVD drive? I couldn't find similar topic on this, if it is already answered, please provide me a link.

    Hi there!
I got a TT11WN which probably has a driver problem: VirtualBox crashes when I start a virtual machine with 3D acceleration enabled. That works fine on other machines with other graphic cards.
So the question is, is there a newer driver than 8.15.10.1872 for my TT which does not break the light sensor?
