The TT-series imho only have one disadvantage: terrible keyboard; maybe a second drawback is their whimsical touchpad that is difficult to get used to. I hope the T-series are better in those aspects. Because of its overall reliability I don't think I will soon say good-bye to my TT. Will wait for some user reviews on the new T-series.
-
I'm happy with the Sony TT keyboard, i've never had any issues with it. I'm fine with the trackpad also, then again i still just use basic functionality lol and am not keen on doing anything more.
I've not seen the new T series. I'm interesting in seeing how the screen compares though as professional and user reviews about the screen are not that positive, the screen though may not be as good as the Sony TT screen, but for newer hardware it may just have to be one of those things you have to live with if you need a new computer or of course look at the alternatives.
I notice though that it has not got any WWAN which is not a plus for me. I do use WWAN on the go and prefer to use integrated wwan modules. My Sony TT still handles what i use it for, the SSD upgrade has helped to improve the performance. -
-
Renfra, i haven't noticed those things. I replaced the space bar recently as it was a bit discoloured. I broke one of the clips in the new space bar so sometimes may have an issue now, but had no issue with the old discoloured space bar which i replaced. It was me that has caused any issue now with my space bar. I've always been happy with the trackpad. I just replaced it very recently because it was getting a bit worn. I though haven't had any issues.
I mentioned in some earlier posts how i dropped my TT. It has cost me a fair bit to replace the entire display casing -i found out that it needed it in the end. I paid for the repair also. I just hope that this TT holds on for a good while now.
@ foxygirl, i would post your question about the hard drives in the thread i linked to. -
I'm not happy with my color settings (probably Gamma issue) and don't have a colorimeter handy.
Can anyone please send me their .ICC profile or alternatively provide me their Intel GMA Panel Color Settings.
This is meant for a downgradeXP installation, so if you run Vista or higher I hope you have not played with the built-in Windows color settings.
Thank you! -
Rachel, I haven't been here for a very long time. I do remember how you posted about going from Vista to Windows 7 though. After reading everything, I decided to stick with the original Windows Vista Professional, and am still using it.
When I bought the TT it was to replace my Toshiba 15" Satellite with something newer, smaller, lighter, and faster. It has done that very well. The Toshiba was to be given away, or sold, and for much of the time, my TT has become my main computer - even more so than my huge desktop.
Then Windows 8 came out. I installed trial versions on some of my other computers, and hated it. I didn't like the interface, didn't like that much of my way of doing things was no longer possible, and that I had to do things in what seemed like a strange way - would have been different I guess if my computer had a touch screen.
Then, on a whim, I installed Windows 8 Release Preview on my Toshiba. Since I was starting out in effect with a new computer, and with nothing to lose, I split the C drive into one partition for Windows, and the other partition for data. I then forced myself to use Windows 8, even with apps/programs I disliked, but allowing myself to install extra software to bring back the missing features I want, or to fine tune it.
Most of the wasted (to me) stuff on the Metro screen got deleted. I added one of the best-reviewed software fixes to put the "Start Button" back where it belongs. I told the computer to use MY programs, not the seemingly foolish Windows apps that came with the trail version of Win-8.
Bottom line, the old laptop sprang back to life with a vengeance. It turns on or off in 25 seconds, max. It is back to being very fast, much faster it seems than my TT. Everything I care about runs just fine, and the "junk" that I'm stuck with that's intended for tablets - I can delete or turn all of them off. It now boots into the desktop, with whatever configuration the screen was in when I shut it down. I can adjust the startup settings, so all the programs don't start at once - only the essential ones, so the computer is useable as soon as I get to the desktop. Bottom line, I am VERY happy with Windows 8.
So, my question for you - are you aware of anyone who has installed Windows 8 on the TT? If so, did it all go smoothly, or are there any problems I'm not yet aware of? I'm thinking that for me, this might make my TT into a better computer for the things that I'm likely to do on it - faster, and probably more reliable. -
For anyone who just read my above response, and who isn't yet aware of what Windows 8 is like, or who wants to try it out on a spare computer, here's the link to read about it, or download it:
Windows 8 Release Preview
If anyone here has tried it on a TT, I'd like to hear how the installation went. Does everything still work as intended? I'm concerned about the webcam, and all the I/O ports on the TT such as memory card reader, USB, firewire, etc.
I also have the issue people were talking about earlier, from a touch-screen that is overly sensitive. I wonder if there will be a way to adjust that? -
One more question. Would this device work on a TT?
Transcend PNU3 USB 3.0 Express Card Adapter TS-PNU3 B&H Photo
The TT has a slot on the front labed "PRO MagicGate".
Can I somehow got USB 3 on my TT? -
Jurisprudence Notebook Evangelist
I'm looking for some form of expresscard 34 adpater which is flush fit with the shallowest part of the TT (the slot tapers inwards so has to be more flush fit than normal cards) with an onboard sdxc microsd slot. Can't find one anywhere.
I keep meaning to put Win 8 on the TT but my SSD is only 80gb so I can't dual boot unless I upgrade. On my TZ (no sony drivers loaded for brightness control etc) it ran like lightning even on the 4200rpm hdd. Truth be told I have never been able to install Sony drivers on my TZ to get the function keys to work. It must be cause I'm thick. I will be upgrading when its released though.
PS: Can anyone answer my previous post on who makes the best anti-glare protectors and whether the TT accepts sdxc 64gb cards in either sd or ms slot (with adapters naturally in the former) -

In case you missed it, here's some older information on the drivers.
http://forum.notebookreview.com/sony/434385-vaio-tt-series-mic-issue-64bit-windows-7-a.html
If you get Win-8 running on the TT, and everything works OK, please explain how you did it.
I'm thinking that maybe I should hold off - a faster computer with things that don't work might not be an improvement over a slower computer, on which almost everything does work. -

Can anyone recommend a good (see cheapest) mail forwarding service (looking at Bundlebox) that would be able to get past Sonystyle US restrictions. They don't ship to mail forwarding services. Not having *cough* interactions with customs would be nice too.
Trying to get TT + vaio P bits like cases and batteries from the US is proving a nightmare and Sonystyle Ireland want to charge me 250 ($309) for an extended battery. I know I can get cheaper 3rd party ones on ebay but my experience in the past with 3rd party batteries has been appalling including nearly destroying a macbook pro. Would anyone be able to ship some bits to me if its not too cheeky and I'll gladly return the favour? -
Win 8 RTM Pro x64 is running fine on my TT. No problems at all. Had to install some Vaio programs for drivers .
-
Hi Guys,
I've just changed the Vista with Win7x64 on my wife's Vaio TT250N. Pretty much everything works except the fingerprint.
The device manager finds it and the driver I've downloaded from the sony page looks fine but the Win does not recognize it as biometric device. It 's a but funny because in the device manager it's under the biometric devices section.
I'll appreciate an advice if you've experienced problems similar to this.
I've downloaded and installed most of the drivers and sony software I decided she'll need from the sony page for Win7x64, including the fingerprint driver.
Thanks in advance!
Vlad -
VNikolov, i'm using the Sony TT4 drivers from the EU website. Scroll down to the bottom of the page to the preinstalled drivers.
The drivers may be the same, i don't know i haven't checked, but i don't have any issues. You could try deleting the software completely in the device manager and then scan for hardware changes and then try the driver in the link below. You can also download the protector suite software from that link. I've just reinstalled mine and had no issues.

Hi everyone I'm new to the forum but I really like to read your topics which convinced me to vaio TT is a great model, and so I now have 3x Vaio TT
vaio tt 11xn standard
vaio tt 11wn standard
vaio tt modified monster 36mdSU9600 8GB RAM 320GB SSD RAID (2X INTEL 320 160GB) WWAN 3G HDMI (INSTAL PORT) BATT 9CELL
I like to use the most TT36MDbut I have a problem with the model TT11WM
The problem is that when you press close it off and restarts. Indifferent or close the power button or close the function it always restarts
I installed a clean win7 and then the same thing? I tried different power options settings but it did not help? I opened and exchanged power button but it still does not shut down properly only the start again and hold the power button until it closes quite
Please can you help something? -

if anyone had this problem? -
Glad to hear you enjoy your TT's
Re your re-booting problem, it's hard to say without seeing a circuit diagram. You say the power switch has been replaced - are there any other components on the power switch board ? Since this board plugs directly into the motherboard via it's own wiring harness, you could try disconnecting the harness after booting the laptop, then shutting it down to see if it still re-boots. You could also swap out the motherboard with another of your TT's to see if the fault travels.
If it proves to be a motherboard fault, TT motherboard prices on eBay have come down quite a bit.
Best of luck!
KJ -
Thanks for the advice
Move one motherboard to another one vaio is a lot of work
I thought that someone had this problem and knows the solution mystery
I will only add that all this is strange because vaio at work is stable
Today ive loaded the new bios but the restart is further -
Vipsan88 I to have changed the power button and harness. My problem was different to yours though vipsan88. Sometimes my laptop would not switch on without pressing the power button for some time and exerting some pressure. Once when i put the laptop back together i did experience the laptop just restarting by itself. I linked this to a power button issue. I have changed my power button in recent months to this one below and touch wood since then have experienced no more issues.
This is the one i bought-i prefer this as it is all in one as opposed to the three parter that the Sony TT shipped with. I'm not certain if the below power button was a redesign.
Original New Power Button For SONY VAIO VGN-TT Series Laptop | eBay
I would suggest to you though if you are still having issues after you have upgraded your BIOS that you reseat the BIOS battery yourself and see if that helps. Also, i would take a good look at the power button harness and and connector again. Once i actually had a screw sitting on my power button harness and it did give me problems with the laptop starting up and it and left with me a slightly split cable. Also, i would suggest that you make sure that the FPC-145 is properly secured. -

it's not because of the disconnect fpc145 keyboard on the same thing restart
Do you know where to buy cheap fpc-167? I saw but expensive $ 80-100 -

Hi all, I am looking at upgrading my TT to an SSD. From what I can read about mSATA SSDs and the like it seems like buying this and an mSATA/microSATA adapter might be the way to go, both from a price and future-proofing perspective:
MyDigitalSSD 256GB BP3 Bullet Proof 3 mSATA III (6G) SSD Solid State Drive - MDMS-BP3-256
Has anyone done this before?
1) can you recommend a mSATA/microSATA adapter that is confirmed to work?
2) can you confirm that the drive + adapter is low-profile enough to still fit in the space previously occupied by the original 1.8 inch Toshiba drive?
3) or is it possible to tuck this drive away in the Express Card slot, and work a cable over there from the original location, or the WWAN PCIe slot, or....?
If this is all too much silliness, would the next best thing be the Samsung G3 470 PM810 256GB 1.8 MicroSata MZUPA256HMDR?
Thanks in advance!! -
Hi justinmiller,
I was watching the SSD prices for over a year now thinking that the 1.8" SSDs that can be used with the TT are a bit too pricey for my taste. Until I read a thread in a german SSD-forum about an 1.8" adapter together with an mSATA-SSD.
Last sunday it was installed in my wife's TT and until now it works flawlessly. Granted, that's only a few days but in said forum thread the thread starter is using it since November 2012 without any problems.
Addonics Product: 1.8" mSATA - micro SATA adapter
With almost 40 Euro not really cheap at least here in Europe.
For the drive I used a mSATA Crucial M4 256.
I (or my wife actually) can really recommend replacing the HDD with an SSD in the TT. Though you can notice that the slow CPU is often the limiting factor now but that alone feels very good since before the bottleneck was almost always the HDD.
Greetings -
I upgraded to Window 8 Pro 64bit. I did a in place upgrade from W7 to W8. I had to uninstall the bluetooth but when i restarted and connected it seemed to find the drivers but i have not tested it and i never use it anyway. The only thing i seem to have an issue with is my One Click internet.Other than that i don't appear to have any other issues. I cannot feel the speed gains over W7 to me. I used my stop watch to check the boot up times and it is about 3-4 seconds faster, barely noticeable really. I wanted to freshen up my TT a bit so i did the upgrade. Still going strong after 3.7 years. I bought a tablet and of course probably will use that more on the go now.
edited to add:
Re the fingerprint reader that was discussed on the previous page, i just checked that. I downloaded the newest 2012 drivers from the companies website and it seems to be all working ok for me. That's something i don't really use as well, but it seems to be working ok.
I'll check another sim, it could be this one that i bought that is meant to have a years mobile broadband access is not what it claimed to be. I reinstalled the Gobi image and drivers and downloaded the web to go connection drivers One Click Internet WWAN Software 1.0.0.1 again and it doesn't disconnect anymore, but i still cannot connect to net.
New graphic card drivers were installed during this upgrade. The ambient light sensor will not work with these drivers. I had to reinstall the W7 TT4 drivers to get it to work again. I also reinstalled the chipset drivers also. The fan seemed a little more active at first, but i've reinstalled the power management software, control panel software, the utility drivers and the event service software. It seems to be as it was now and i'm pretty sensitive to noise. I've not checked battery life, i mostly keep it capped to 50% these days and use it at home.
2nd edit
I tried another sim and that connected ok.
3rd edit
I am now using the W8 64bit chipset inf drivers that i downloaded from the Intel website, but i am using Sony's graphic card drivers also. The ambient sensor works with this combination. Bluetooth drivers can be downloaded from the manufacturers website.
https://www.broadcom.com/support/bluetooth/update.php
Just a tip, if you're doing an in place upgrade i would recommend that you try and upgrade to the newest 2011 event service drivers first or otherwise it will not install if you try and install it after you have upgraded.
mikemyers, i've just read over the last four pages. I missed your question directed at me. Obviously i've just done this upgrade as you can see and it has gone ok. Gone back to being a bit unsure if the fan is a little more active or not. This morning again it seemed a little more active. I just downloaded the W8 inf drivers and it seems ok again. Too early to really tell though, will know after the weekend. I see that Sony provides many new W8 drivers for this upgrade for other models. Some TT's were sold with W7, but i think it is probably more than wishful thinking if i hope to see some W8 drivers pop up. At this point they want people to upgrade lol. I am though thinking of upgrading my SZ, but not my TT.
....
I linked to an active link in this thread where you can download a limited version of the protector suite 2012 software.
http://forum.notebookreview.com/win...here-can-i-download-protector-suite-12-a.html

Ok, if you install the TT4 W7 drivers first, the fingerprint sensor and protector suite software, it should i think work as a full edition if you do an upgrade.

After all that Win8 discussion, how about talking about XP?
I'm missing the "safely remove" icon for the SDCard in the taskbar. This is quite annoying because XP's "Optimize for quick removal" setting won't take effect for non-admin accounts. (XP bug)
I tried:

Rachel
have a look at MWconn - The most powerful of all connection manager.
At first a bit tricky to get used to with all its options, but it's very well documented. -
Thanks for the link oled, i will take a look at it.
Just an update- i am very happy with W8 and it does feel generally faster to me now. I ended up dual booting with W7 and W8 and doing quite a number of battery life tests. If battery life was better in W7 i was going to use it when needed. I think W8 though actually appeared to have better battery life. My battery life in W8 seemed to fluctuate and then i discovered that the smart network was not actually turning the mobile broadband modem of in the device manager. It seemed to do this with W7 also when i don't think i had this issue before. I think i'll soon go on and delete the partition that i created for W7.
edited to add:
The max that i could get at idle in W7 was about 13hrs 17 mins and in W8 it was 14 hrs and some odd minutes with a standard battery with 0% wear. This is in silent mode, auto brightness off, 3G of, graphics in max power savings, wifi adapter power settings set to medium plus roaming also. Screen in the default setting (60hz) with about 20-25% brightness, all the other power saver settings were enabled in Vaio power management plus a few other devices turned off that i was not using like the ethernet.
The rate of drain also was just fine in W8 for me with all the correct drivers/settings in place. I also oddly seem now to get better battery life indicated with 8GB of ram compared to 4GB at idle which is rather odd.
edited to add:
I am fine with the fan activity also, with normal use i cannot hear it. I use the balanced profile mode in the vaio control centre when plugged in and also W8 balanced profile mode. I have disabled things like the automatic scan which can potentially trigger fan activity/tasks in the task manager and also stuff like sykpe click to call which i was unsure of. Btw, the FN buttons work for me as do the shortcut buttons. The trackpad functions for me as it did in W7...perfectly. I am using the event service version -5.0.0.0713 and the other drivers and updates from the W7 EU TT4 driver page. Of course drivers for Gobi wwan etc i got from the US site.
Ok, i attached a screen capture of the drivers that i am using.
EDIT: Correction
There is one thing which i cannot seem to get to work and that is the Bluetooth. I thought it might be defective so i booted into W7 and installed the drivers again as i was having issues before and i could send and receive files with no issues with freshly installed drivers. In W8 i downloaded the bluetooth drivers from the Broadcom website, but when i click on the BT icon it will not let me access to the settings. I cannot pair or find any devices. I am working on this.
...........
Lol, i resolved the BT issue, it was my mistake. I disabled the bluetooth support drivers in the system configuration settings previously before i did the upgrade. I just enabled it and the drivers work fine.

Thanks andiol for the feedback on the mSATA drives, the Crucial drive looks like an even better choice than what I'd found, thank you! I'm wondering though if it's worth investing $200+ in a laptop that I just bought for $340, of course it is also just crazy how the prices have come down on these little machines, I remember when they were $2500 and I could only drool over them.
Rachel, do you know if this drive is the same Samsung 470 PM810 that you have in 256GB capacity? The number generally look the same, except its power draw seems higher at 2.3A vs 0.33A for the 256GB drive pictured here.....thanks!

Hi
I'm new to the forum and have a TT running windows 7.
Is there anyone out there that can help me with obtaining a copy of the service manual for the TT?
It would be very much appreciated.
Cheers -
Thanks for the reply, Rachel. I'm somewhat lost as to what my plans are with laptops, but the TT still seems to be one of a kind, and it may well be the last of its kind. What Sony did for/with the TT may never happen again, as so few people are willing to pay what it costs for what will look like a $150 toy.
As for me, the Toshiba with Win-8 is working flawlessly. If it worked this well two years ago, I'd never have been looking for, and found, the TT. I did buy a new laptop, a Lenovo W530 ThinkPad, which is fast and powerful, but weighs twice as much as the TT.
After cleaning out a lot of my old files, my TT seems to be running perfectly, and now has lots of space on it. I'd like to do what you did with Win-8, but I'm not sure I know enough to do everything you did, even now that you have it documented so well here. If you consolidated and organized all your notes, I think you'd have a fascinating article on "How to Upgrade your old Sony VAIO TT to Windows 8", but I wonder how many people would do it, even with a step-by-step guide.
Somebody noted up above that a used TT is now going for around $350 or so. I'm not sure if that's a realistic number, but if I saw one for sale at that price, and I knew it was in good shape, I'd most likely buy it on the spot. That way, I'd have a test laptop that I could try all these things out on. Based on what you've written, maybe a better idea would be to buy a new replacement drive, and start with that. If the whole process got out of hand, I could just put the original drive back in, and be up and running again.
Last thought - it's great to see this thread is still running. There's a goldmine of information here. Anyone know of a way to capture the entire thread, and save it as a file? -

Everything is working perfectly for me. I'm now using the original W7 event service driver 5.0.0.0710 since i last posted. It seems to function just the same as the other driver did, but for some reason after some months that stopped working for me. That could have been down to something i did. A simple reinstall resolved that for me. If you haven't i suggest try reinstalling the drivers again as i have no problems with that and all those functions work for me. I also use smart network and One Click internet to switch on the Gobi wwan card.

The Gobi wwan works ok for me.
If you're using the Option wwan module i should think that the below steps i posted in the link should still apply. I had a look at the Option website and it seems that there are no updated drivers listed for that Option wwan module. If you haven't followed the below steps i suggest you try them and try using the Option drivers and not the Sony drivers if that is what you're doing. Although, you could still have a problem using the listed driver, it's worth a try if you haven't tried that.

mikemyers, it seems like the best option that there is right now to save the thread is just to use the print mode setting and switch to view 50 posts a page which will reduce the thread to 46 pages. Although, it seems that the option to download threads is something that can be implemented into the forum software.

The Sony TT is pretty old now, the first models came out in 2008, i'm not surprised some models and especially the lower spec models might go for around $350, especially if they're not in the best condition.
I've been using W8 for months now, i really should go on and delete the W7 partition, i just keep on forgetting to. I'm very pleased with W8.

Hi all.
I am now on the hunt for a specific part to my VGN-TT11WN. It's been tucked away for a couple of years but when packing up from storage I see that one cosmetic part is missing. The part gone missing is the chrome coloured circular plastic cover that covers the hinge on the power button side. If anyone know a good shop that might have it or possibly have spareparts it would be great! -
Hi All,
I have an unusual problem that I wondered if anyone else has come across or even maybe solved and have a solution.
Basically I'm running windows 8 pro 64 bit on my original mechanical hard drive (120gb), I decided to upgrade it to a mSata SSD - Plexter 128gb. I cloned the drive externally via a USB to SATA adapter and all worked well. I then installed the new mSATA SSD and discovered that the touchpad and mouse buttons on the pad no longer work. After a lot of head scratching I put the old drive back in and the trackpad works fine. Swap back to SSD and no trackpad. Has anyone got any ideas of what it may be? Is it may be an earth ing issue or software?
Any help would greatly be appreciated.

Thanks for the reply and suggestion. I checked but unfortunately the trackpad isn't showing up at all. Unusual I know and very confusing.

Hi,
I am in a similar need to the poster above, with the broken power button.
I need the right hinge cover - the silver cover, and the plastic transparent power button for the VGN-TT21WN/B.
I think it may be the following part numbers:
X23186872 – power button
400070903 - Sony Hinge Cap Right
Unfortunately I am finding it difficult to confirm that these are definitely the correct parts.
I hope that someone with access to the TT service manual can help - does anybody know if these are the correct parts for the UK TT21WN/B ?
many thanks,
Oli. -
Hi, i mentioned the part for the power button switch and power button in these posts. As i mentioned the newer all one in design is in my opinion a lot better, the three parter was a bit cumbersome. I also cannot seem to find the individual parts in the service manual.

I have also attached the part number needed for the right hinge cap.
-
Thanks Rachel, I appreciate your help.
I had found the second of those linked posts during my research, but I couldn't identify the part number from the ebay listing.
The original seller is no longer listing the power button but there is another seller who is listing what looks like the same item but the delivery cost is more than the cost of the part for delivery to the UK.
I am going to order the part number you provided for the hinge cap 400070901 and the part number X23186872 that I found listed for the TT and I will take a chance that it is the correct one.
I have not disassembled this laptop yet, and I see that a few people have damaged certain ribbon cable and connectors during disassembly.
Please would it be possible to send me a copy of the service manual?
I don't think I can send PMs yet because of my post count, but the part of my email address before the at sign is Oli and my domain name is futureinmotion.com
many thanks,
Oli.
UPDATE: 29/09/13
The part numbers for the right hinge cap and power button above were correct, however the supplier substituted part no 400070903 for the right hinge cap and this was correct. These parts both fitted the VGN-TT21WN/B UK model.
Removal is not as straighforward as it seems.
With the right hinge cap removed, a black screw is visible from the rear of the screen that looks like it holds the power button. This screw does not hold the power button. The screw that holds the power button is accessible from the front of the display and is hidden under a piece of black U-shaped adhesive foam which is stuck to the plastic surrounding the hinge. This foam piece initially looked like solid plastic and it wasn't until I had removed the display that I realised that it was just foam. It is possible to unstick the foam piece with a small flat bladed screwdriver and wiggle it out to access the screw. The plastic power button assembly is also stuck with an adhesive sheet to the metal part of the hinge requiring a little persuasion with a screwdriver to unstick it. Great care has to be taken when sliding the power button assembly out of the hinge not to damage the power cable and wifi antenna cables. I made a rather extensive disassembly to remove the power button including removing the upper cover and keyboard then the display hinges to be able to free these cables in order not to damage them but it might be possible to do it without removing the display if you manage to wiggle the power cable out from under the hinge. I hope this helps someone. Oli. -

Hope someone can help with this. I think my intel x-18m 80gb ssd has died. Its not recognised in the bios. I have a Sandisk SSD 64gb from a Vaio P 2nd gen I'd like to use in my TT but the connectors are different. Can someone point me in the right direction of an adapter I can use to get the Sandisk to work in the TT. I've included pics of the 2 drives for comparison. Cheers.

Hi!
Would you please assist in getting VGN-TT Hacked BIOS to recognize the 6300 Wifi with ACPI, and probably with unlocked CPU bios options.
Appreciate your response! -
Hi Rachel,
I've been going though hundreds of pages of the TT owners posts, and I'm a little confused, as there are so many models of the TT out there
I like to ask if my sony VGN-TT26-GN-R uses mSata or uSata(microSata)?
Mine is currently a 250GB HDD, but I like to convert it to a SSD, and mainstream microSata drives are uncommon.. so I like to ask if mSata drives can be used on my TT or would I need a converter?
Also, I understand some users managed to get 8GB DDR3 ram on their TT. but the TT bios seems to only support 4GB max? and also at 800MHz in dual channel mode... do I have to get a bios hack to enable memory above 4GB or >800Mhz speeds?
I've purchased a HDMI Cable ribbon and port, but before I open the case, just like to check if another HDMI Board is required? From your post, it seems to be so, but elsewhere on the internet, the instructions are not so clear....
Do hope to find out more and do more with this great machine.... -
Sturtles, the Sony TT use a 1.8 micro sata drive/ 1.8 uSata drive which is a stripped micro sata drive.
You will need an adapter to use an Msata drive. I've never owned one and cannot say what works or what does not work.
I recommend if haven't that you read this post.

The Sony TT can utilise 8GB of ram, some people need a more recent BIOS. I don't know what BIOS you're using if is it a modded one as that is not clear. The Sony official BIOS reports whatever ram you're using up to 8GB.I don't know of any BIOS hack that will increase the speeds. On the ram front i would just point out that some people had issues with G Skill and Corsair ram.

I can't really remember that much about the HDMI upgrade now. I wrote at that time that two parts are needed, the port board and ribbon.
