I had got one BSOD on my fiance's CW. I can't remember what I was doing. Nothing too intensive.

has anyone faced any issues creating recovery disks... I tried to make mine using Double layer and after 15 trials, i could only get the first of the two needed to burn. Now it is simply doing the same for the second disk.
The only error the VAIO care shows is "there was an error writing to the disk, nothing has been written to the disk and it is safe to use it again" -

The pics were taken at night in my living room, so I had to use the flash on my digital cam. Some came out a tiny bit blurry, but I hope you kinda got the sense of the way it looks.
Eitherway... It's very pretty and worth all the cash imo.Prettier in real life for sure.

I got my CW today
and an upgrade to Blueray writer
as well.
Hai Can any body guide me to activate the two-finger scrolling ? Do I need to install any additional driver for this? -
Congratulations Mate on the free upgrade.
For activating the two finger scrollijng, u need to go to the Control panel and check the Mouse Settings. It should be available over there. There was a suggestion to update the driver to the latest vesion from the driver site itself since Sony does not have it as yet to get this thing working. I'm not sure if you would require this update. If u dont find it in the Mouse Settings, then u can go ahead and update it. -
hmm congrats to all those who got the free blu ray burner upgrade...!!! stupid me had paid the extra money to get the burner when i ordered...! now i wonder...should i fight with Sony??? :-D ... well they gave me the blu ray burner for 80$ which isnt too bad...!!! good news is...its being built right now...so i know i am getting it...!!! may be they will give me an additional battery or something...
-
@Raziel2001
No Options for two finger scrolling in the Control panel-> Mouse Settings, May be we need to update the driver, Before that I wanted to know if anybody did that successfully. -
I want to overclock my gpu and maybe my cpu, but I don't really know how to do it on a laptop. I've overclocked desktop computers using the BIOS, but laptop BIOS is scarce.
You are both speaking about system tools, but I can't find the right software, could you give me more details?

Try this link. http://downloads.guru3d.com/NVIDIA-System-Tools-6.02-%28ESA%29-download-1959.html
This is the one im using right now. -

also got a production email about an hour ago on my cto black...finally
-
received my laptop today
what are the things you guys suggest i should update? -
link to nvidia driver update:
http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-download.pl?mdl=VPCCW1MFXB&upd_id=5292&os_id=45
Depending on where you bought/ordered your CW from, you may want to update the bios (if you custom ordered it off sonystyle itll probably be up to date).
apart from that... there isnt really that much that needs updating. intel have released a newer driver for the intel wifi link 5100, which you may want to update to
EDIT: you may not have the intel wireless 5100, you may have a different one ( i cant remember the make). check to see which one you have in the device manager
Another would be to install vaio update 5, it does all this for you apparently... it has found 4 patches for me and wants to install them automatically so you could always use that
link for the updated VAIO update 5: http://support.vaio.sony.eu/computing/vaio/downloads/info/info.aspx?l=en_GB&url=VAIO/Updates/EP0000211610.exe&m=VPCCW1&ip=EP0000211610.htm
Hope this helps -
nooo my estimated ship date went from 12/22 to 12/28
says cw is being built... it wouldn't seriously take them 2 weeks to build it, would it? so, why the long ship date? -
Can anyone tell me how much battery life they get at full brightness + full volume when gaming a high end game. Today i was playing Borderlands, and barely got 1 hour playing it w/ the 230m and i was down to 10%. I don't think this is normal...

I had a long talk last night with Sony customer service and pointed out the fact that they were shipping orders with upgraded BD write drives at no cost to the customer so why the 12-29-09 estimated parts arrival and then ship out schedule....
Low and behold now everybody's is being built with an estimated ship date of 12-22-09. I would be willing to bet that Sony is biting the bullet and shipping most if not all of this batch of CW cto's with the blu-ray write drives just to defend against a revolt stemming from people not getting their orders for Christmas. I ordered early on the 27th and was in the 12-29-09 boat until today when I magically got a "Your Vaio is being built e-mail estimated to ship 12-22-09"
Lose a whole bunch of customers due to missing Christmas delivery or eat a $70.00 upgrade..... -
I totally agree that 1080p is an overkill on a 13-14" laptop but looking at the Z series i think the CW deserves ATLEAST 1600x900 res as other 14" laptops come with 1600x900 res.
I dont know for others but have a high res and having more real estate matters alot to me since i know you can have 2 full pages open side by side on 1600x900 of word or browsers and other things so it comes in handy. Just my 2 cents -

Hey guys...
I got my CW on the December 11 and today while I was trying to open Crysis my laoptop froze. I had to turn it off with the power button. I tried to restart but it didn't get past the "Starting Windows" screen with the black background and glowing Windows logo.
I turned it off again and this time was given the option to repair Windows or start again with normal settings. The Windows repair thing didn't find anything and none of the other options were working either, so I restarted it again and used my recovery disks. The entire recovery process took about FOUR hours and the laptop ran noticeably slower than the day I first got it. The first thing I did was try to install Windows updates but the computer froze and I had to restart it again manually... the same thing happened; "Starting Windows" for 45 minutes.
I called Sony customer support and the guy walked me through some possible solutions but we never got past the damn Starting Windows screen...
He told me to try the recovery disks again but for some reason they wouldn't work... he said since the laptop is less than a month a old I can get a replacement or maybe try to get the recovery disks from Sony...
What do you guys think I should do? Does this sound like a hardware or software problem?? I'm thinking about just buying a copy of Windows 7 Professional and doing a clean install.
Here are my specs:

If anyone can find a windows 7 home premium 64 bit OEM image please PM me... -
Hey everyone...
My vaio CW finally went to build phase.. Yay!!!... I will be getting my laptop before Christmas... -
I can't make recovery disks for my professional version. I tried like may be 25 times, spoilt 10 disks and the tech support is lousy. They have asked me to reload the windows through the recovery partition. I even tried that but it does not work.
Can anyone help me with this? Anyone who has the Profesisonal version, can you please upload the DVD images of your receoveyr disks so that i can download them.
Especially logan87 and Sir_dudley, i know you guys are pretty active in this... Save me from this mess.... -
The CW with 230M and P7450 is back on Newegg, and now the T6600 is sold out
-
You got me really excited, I saw 230M and T6600 and I went rushing to Newegg!
Hopefully soon, can't justify dropping $100 for a P7450. -
wait so what qualifies you for a free blu ray writer upgrade? i ordered mine on the 27th with blu ray playback...does that qualify me

i guess the blu ray burner upgrade is random...for orders starting their build over the last 2 days i guess they are giving the burner...!

, i dont rely as much on recov disks as i do on the recovery partition, but thats me
) this should work, since maybe something might of happened to your disks, but im with you that it might be a hardware problem or something if so then, This is just me, but if i was in your position, i would demand Sony to issue a new one ASAP and make up some story about you needing it before christmas or something or if you can wait tell them i need it by 1st week of jan since im going back to school or something. since the fault is on Sony's side not your's you have every right to demand the fastest type of shipping and tell them i want a number of a rep or direct line to manager or someone so i can keep in contact of my status, and having yours be built right away. maybe they might big you something in compensation as an upgrade on something but lets see, i doubt it though so dont take my word for it
NOTE: i would say to do this at your last resort make sure you tried every possible thing you can do to try to recover your system.
another point to note, is that if you find Win7 keys just around the internet there is a great probability that they are generated or fake and will make your windows counterfeit. and another thing is that you key is not at fault whatsoever its a software or hardware fault. if you have problems with your key then its Sony's problem to issue a new key, you shouldnt use your money to buy a new key. Since its in the 30day guarantee i dont know how far Sony will go to repair this maybe they might go all out and do something extra for you'Tis the Holiday Season
EDIT: i just had another idea that could happen, Sony might send out a repair technician to your house since its under 30 day guarantee.
Please keep us all updated on what you do and what happens
EDIT: another thing i used to do which im guessing is not allowedi just went up in stores and i just took a quick non flash picture of display laptops or noted it down in a very quick and quiet manner so no one notices
, i would just pretend to be looking at the vents and remember the 1st pack of digits then check the sides and lide and back under and go back and forth few times or go back to few laptops and back again to note it so its not so suspicious.
-
I badly need the professional recovery disks, if someone cna just upload them that would be awesome.. -
always look out for vouchers and discount codes and maybe you can get it for cheaper
i would preferablly go for the P7450, i would hate my RAM to be bottlenecked by the CPU since the T6600 is 800 FSB so its going to clock the RAM down to 800FSB to match the CPU, then i dont see the point in DDR3.
This is why i dont agree with other members on there isnt anything different between the two processor's. Just my 2 1/2 cents

There's a SonyStyle store very near to my house... can I take my laptop there to have it looked at?
-
yes of course, we also have 1 free tune up to sonystyle too! hehe
-
OMG!!! OK after letting the "Starting Windows" screen sit for about an hour it took me to a blue screen... I can move my mouse but there's nothing to click... I'll let it sit a bit longer but now I'm wondering why it's taking so long to load? I assumed it was just freezing up but obviously it's not. Anyone have any idea what kind of problem this is?
EDIT: Ok so after letting it stay on that blue screen for about a half hour it loaded to the VAIO Recovery Center!
My options are:
VAIO Hardware Diagnostics
Restore C: Drive
Restore Complete System
Rescue Data
Wipe and Erase Data
What should I do?? How do I access the recovery partition that rehangohar was talking about? -
The Good
I've had my Icy White (T6600, G210M) machine for a little over a week now, and am finding myself very satisfied. The typing experience is amazing! Nice little key clicks, and the set-up/spacing makes for rapid-fire typing with few mistakes. The mouse pad is lovely, and I've really gotten used to scrolling using finger circles-- if you don't lift your finger, you can go clockwise then counter-clockwise with your finger to go up and down a page, pretty fast changes in direction tooAnd the color is great, fingerprints are there if you are really looking for them, but overall hardly noticeable.
As for the actual use of it, still learning-- Windows7 is quite a bit different as I came from XP, and simply finding the Add/Remove programs was a discovery. There are cute "instructional videos" about the OS if interested, the designers are very smiley.
Machine is pretty light, and the screen seems very big for 14", once you get used to the loss of vertical space.
The Not So Good
Some minor problems, however-- I had already had one BsoD on the FIRST boot of the machine during Win7 set-up, but after a reboot it was OK.
But from the get-go, I've then encountered problems with Internet Explorer (both 32- and 64-bit versions) where I get a dialog box as soon as I start using the programs, claiming that a program on my computer has corrupted the default search provider (set as Google) for IE. I keep trying to change it, to no avail. It got so annoying (any new window would say the same thing) that I turned off IE and am using Firefox instead. Not that I have anything against Firefox, but what might cause this? I am a bit of a computer noob, so this might be a simple fix.
Thanks!
