The "battery care" option is enabled by default, which maxes the battery charge at 80%. This significantly extends the life of the battery if you leave it plugged in a lot.
If you want a 100% charge, you can either manually turn off this function by going to to the Sony Care Control panel, or install the latest Sony Settings Utility which changes this to 100% for you.

You're right. There's this battery care function in the Vaio Control Center which maxes it to 80%. I actually enabled this after I purchased it, but I didn't realize that it would halt at 80%.
Now I've even lowered it to 50% as I usually have the adapter on.
Thanks for notifiying me... -
How many hours and minutes remaining does it usually show for people on Balanceed Mode at 100%?

Whats the newest version of Sony Vaio Update?
-
i think its version 5...
-
-
Kinda sad they don't offer the silver version with decent specs here in Belgium. The best we can get is a 2.1 ghz core 2 duo with that ugly brown design.
-
-
it is standard overnight shipping..
-
weird, i have sony vaio update 4, and it wont do update or anything by itself? i cant even do anything to update it even. I cant find anything on the website for it as well.
-
Saw the CW lovely piece of kit but disappointing speakers, viewing angles weren't bad. Might consider the FW though, thanks for your helps guys.
-
you could always do what i did and go to the sony website and download version 5 manually. -
Where were u able to find the Sony Update 5? it only shows updates for my computer and nothing else.. Sony is so weird lol
-
i think you are talking about the CS series -
Does the search feature not work for anyone else either?
I remember there was a post on how to do two-finger scrolling, to scroll up and down using two fingers instead of going off to the side. Does anyone know what to do to achieve this? -
yeah open up mouse settings and enable it on. "synaptics pointing device"
-
Enabled: Yes
Name: Syanptics Touchpad V7.2
?
That is enabled but I only have one finger scrolling. -
i cant seem to do searches in threads either
-
No, look in your bottom right hand corner and it should be there, right click on it and go to pointing device properties,
It's a whole bunch of options you can do including the swirl motion.
And How else is everyone updating their Sony Vaio Update 4 to 5 when I'm still stuck on 4? ? -
So, I finally got my hands on my CW!
I'm very happy with it. It's a very powerful little machine - the GT230 seems to be capable of outdoing my Xbox 360. GRID looks beautiful and plays beautifully too.
The laptop keyboard is wonderful too. It's similar to my MacBooks. I just wish I didn't have to hit Fn every time I want to change the volume or brightness. I never use the function keys normally anyway!
Is there any way to change this?
Also the trackpad is nowhere near as good as the MacBook's. Even with the two finger scroll enabled, it sometimes misses swipes. With the MacBook I could swipe diagonally and it'd do the trick but sometimes it just misses them.
No two finger tap for a double click is also annoying.
But all these niggles should pass with time.ALLurGroceries likes this. -

I get a discharge rate of 17400mah on average just browsing the net. -
for some reason it cant be found on the US site, i noticed that the other day... it's like the recent nvidia 187.83 driver is only available from the US site and not the UK one... very strange -
wow, i would of never found that, i was just searching through sony US just over and over and kept getting to the same spot..
Thanks man. Appreciate it. Left ya a rep. -
and
thannnnnks
sony should really sort out their support site, it's horrendus. at least dells is usuable, and looks nice enough toooo -
I just downloaded battery bar... whats the difference between "Battery" and "Full Lifetime"
I seem to only get a max of 2 hours and 30 minutes -
-
So my computer should have came today. FedEx actually left a note saying I could sign it and leave it on the door yesterday, so I did that. Come home from work at 5:30 pm and it's still on the door. The last idk 4 times they've been here it's been between 1 and 3 or so. It's now 6:30 and they haven't come yet. If it doesn't get delivered...omg I'm gonna shoot somebody lol. It shipped out on the 11th, that's too long for me!
-
"Full Lifetime" is what it gets over an average of discharge/recharge cycles, (discharge and recharge fully a few times to get a more accurate reading) -
Yay it came and I got a free Blu-Ray Burner
AFK all weekend while I play with it
-
Really?? anyone else share this. just curious cuz i got my build email and been dying to get my hands on it -
So really... it varies alotit all depends on where you live, the parts, and the slow/fast workers
-
Again, I would search for this if I could, but what was one supposed to do to change the colors?
-
hope it helps

Now all I have to do is figure out why i get a connection of 54mbps, (I have the Intel card) even thought I have a Wireless N router. This is the first computer I've had with Wireless N capabilities so it would be nice to get a faster speed!
EDIT:
I found a post about this in the thread that reads:
" Originally Posted by nalooti View Post

I would try iy in 2.4 GHz g and in 5GHz n. Maybe the 2.4GHz band is too crowded on your location. How many SSID do you see? Also try at various times in the day and night. If interference is a problem you should see different results at different time of the day.
I assume your transfer rate is 6 or 7 Mbytes/s not bits/s. Even this is lower than mine which is 12 to 14 MBytes/s. Again I'm very close to the router.
You can change the band with VAIO smart network utility.
20 and 40 MHz I was talking about are the width of the channels."
Does anyone know where to locate this VAIO smart utility or any alternatives to changing the band? -
In your router you may have to change the speed of your wireless connection. On my router I have the option of 54, 130, or 300 mbps. Make sure too that it's wireless N enabled and not just b/g. -
Took some pictures while I was opening up my computer. It's burning my recovery DVDs now. Once again, only 2 tho, not 3 like everyone else.
Here's the link to the pics of our VAIOs. Ice White and Royal Indigo.
VAIO Pics
I will take some pics of both of them together someday -
Wow thanks for the pictures. I actually thought I would hate a white laptop. But I have to admit that white one looks pretty sweet. I might like that even more than the black. I wonder how dirty that gets compared to the black version..

Alright guys, I took my Vaio to the nearest SonyStyle store (at my favorite mall about 30 minutes from my house) and told the "backstage technician" about my problem. He agreed that it sounded like an HDD issue. He told me that he was going to run some tests and that it would take about 15 minutes. Turns out it was the hard drive and he said he could have one shipped to the store directly overnight for free. Yay!
It looks like I'll be starting all over... anyone have a list of pre-installed Sony programs that are good to get rid of?? Or better yet, a list of Sony programs that are WORTH keeping... if there are any. -
Does the recovery let you burn multiple sets of DVDs? My old HP only let you do one DVD EVER.
-
i hate you all who got blu burner, i wanted blu-ray reader so bad but i had to order from jr.com which didnt have it. I ordered on the 29th from SonyStyle.Usa. and they denied me
very sad.
