The "battery care" option is enabled by default, which maxes the battery charge at 80%. This significantly extends the life of the battery if you leave it plugged in a lot.

If you want a 100% charge, you can either manually turn off this function by going to to the Sony Care Control panel, or install the latest Sony Settings Utility which changes this to 100% for you.

    Holy sheeeit. :p

You're right. There's this battery care function in the Vaio Control Center which maxes it to 80%. I actually enabled this after I purchased it, but I didn't realize that it would halt at 80%.

Now I've even lowered it to 50% as I usually have the adapter on. :)

I just recieved mine too, Fedex says it will be delivered on the 23rd. Just in time for xmas. Not bad really, considering all the backorders. I ordered it on the 28th of Nov. and I should be recieving on the 23rd of Dec. One month for a CTO just before Xmas with free upgrades? I can deal with that.

I've got version 5 and had version 4 when i bought the Vaio. It prompted me to update to 5 and hasn't suggested any other version.

Kinda sad they don't offer the silver version with decent specs here in Belgium. The best we can get is a 2.1 ghz core 2 duo with that ugly brown design.

I just checked fedex and it says estimated delivery as 23rd.. glad that laptop is finally shipped.. But funny thing is sonystyle is struggling to charge my card.. they charged my card much before the build phase and their website was showing paid as 0 till yesterday. Today I checked sonystyle website and it started showing open balance as 0 and all paid. Then I checked my BOA the amount that they cut earlier returned.. I guess they will charge me again..

Pretty cool feature.. As I use my laptop plugged in for most of the time

you could always do what i did and go to the sony website and download version 5 manually. ;)

areu sure you arent getting the CW mixed up with another model? AFAIK there isnt a brown colour variant for the CW out, and no silver but they have white.
i think you are talking about the CS series

Does the search feature not work for anyone else either?

I remember there was a post on how to do two-finger scrolling, to scroll up and down using two fingers instead of going off to the side. Does anyone know what to do to achieve this?

Are you talking about where there is Device Settings, it says:

    Enabled: Yes
    Name: Syanptics Touchpad V7.2

    ?

That is enabled but I only have one finger scrolling.

No, look in your bottom right hand corner and it should be there, right click on it and go to pointing device properties,

It's a whole bunch of options you can do including the swirl motion.

And How else is everyone updating their Sony Vaio Update 4 to 5 when I'm still stuck on 4? ?

So, I finally got my hands on my CW! :D

I'm very happy with it. It's a very powerful little machine - the GT230 seems to be capable of outdoing my Xbox 360. GRID looks beautiful and plays beautifully too.

The laptop keyboard is wonderful too. It's similar to my MacBooks. I just wish I didn't have to hit Fn every time I want to change the volume or brightness. I never use the function keys normally anyway!

Is there any way to change this?

Also the trackpad is nowhere near as good as the MacBook's. Even with the two finger scroll enabled, it sometimes misses swipes. With the MacBook I could swipe diagonally and it'd do the trick but sometimes it just misses them.

No two finger tap for a double click is also annoying.

But all these niggles should pass with time.

I get a discharge rate of 17400mah on average just browsing the net.

So my computer should have came today. FedEx actually left a note saying I could sign it and leave it on the door yesterday, so I did that. Come home from work at 5:30 pm and it's still on the door. The last idk 4 times they've been here it's been between 1 and 3 or so. It's now 6:30 and they haven't come yet. If it doesn't get delivered...omg I'm gonna shoot somebody lol. It shipped out on the 11th, that's too long for me!

"Battery" is its estimated time at the moment based on current usage

"Full Lifetime" is what it gets over an average of discharge/recharge cycles, (discharge and recharge fully a few times to get a more accurate reading)

It looks like it made a big difference, and I don't even thing I would have noticed to change anything in the first place if people didn't mention the colors! Thanks!

Now all I have to do is figure out why i get a connection of 54mbps, (I have the Intel card) even thought I have a Wireless N router. This is the first computer I've had with Wireless N capabilities so it would be nice to get a faster speed!

    EDIT:

I found a post about this in the thread that reads:

" Originally Posted by nalooti View Post

I would try iy in 2.4 GHz g and in 5GHz n. Maybe the 2.4GHz band is too crowded on your location. How many SSID do you see? Also try at various times in the day and night. If interference is a problem you should see different results at different time of the day.
I assume your transfer rate is 6 or 7 Mbytes/s not bits/s. Even this is lower than mine which is 12 to 14 MBytes/s. Again I'm very close to the router.
You can change the band with VAIO smart network utility.
20 and 40 MHz I was talking about are the width of the channels."

Does anyone know where to locate this VAIO smart utility or any alternatives to changing the band?

In your router you may have to change the speed of your wireless connection. On my router I have the option of 54, 130, or 300 mbps. Make sure too that it's wireless N enabled and not just b/g.

Alright guys, I took my Vaio to the nearest SonyStyle store (at my favorite mall about 30 minutes from my house) and told the "backstage technician" about my problem. He agreed that it sounded like an HDD issue. He told me that he was going to run some tests and that it would take about 15 minutes. Turns out it was the hard drive and he said he could have one shipped to the store directly overnight for free. Yay!

It looks like I'll be starting all over... anyone have a list of pre-installed Sony programs that are good to get rid of?? Or better yet, a list of Sony programs that are WORTH keeping... if there are any.
