Speaking of bluetooth, I try to use the Vaio as a hands-free speaker for my phone calls, but the volume is way too low to be of any use. ...Anyone else have a similar problem and/or solution to this?

Don't worry everyone has those. My guess is that they're for advertising other sony products, like camera. Although they've gotten over their heads.

Can the laptop be closed but yet still be used with an external monitor?

Also, is the battery draining while laptop is off, resolved?

    Hi there

I'm in New Delhi,India and bought this notebook a couple of days ago and have the EXACT same problem. Yes, my battery does wiggle/move and gets raised to the point that i hear a 'clunk'.

I was thinking maybe I'm the only one afflicted with it or have a case of OCD! I'm relieved to know someone else has the same problem. A couple of my friends have seen it and say I should ignore it as the battery doesnt fall off and otherwise seems secure BUT it is a little disappointing to have this problem on a brand new notebook. I've finally decided to go to the Sony Store I bought it from and inspect a few other notebooks of the same model, if there is no problem on the other ones, I hope they replace mine.

    Did you finally return yours?

I have similar thoughts @ wedging something like that in the space, you think it's worth taking it back to the sony store for them to have a look?

I had the same issue, all I did was put a couple post it notes behind the battery and it works fine. The wiggle wasn't too extreme on my laptop though, maybe you guys have it worse.

Did take it back and checked a few cw laptops on display and all had varying degrees (nothing extreme) of the wiggle, i guess it's a design flaw.Since I didn't want o exchange it for another series,I too wedged a tiny cut piece of a greeting card and it seems alright now.

Is anyone else having an issue with the scrolling feature of the touchpad? The only way I can scroll up and down a page is using the arrow keys. This problem has been intermittent, and sometimes has only been when I'm using mozilla firefox, but today it doesn't even work on internet explorer. Any input is appreciated, thanks!

Sony already called me and telling that they have already repaired it. I already have the unit now and they just refitted the LCD cabinet as their solution. luckily, it was covered by the warranty. but i'm just getting worried about their solution because on my judgement, after a month it will result again to same issue since it was just refitted. i was hoping that they will replace the LCD cabinet but it wasn't.

So if you encountered this issue and your laptop is still new, i guest you have to replace it or exchange it with new one or rather exchange it with other model.

This laptop is good in performance but has a very bad design on the LCD cabinet. it's not like other models like CS wherein LCD cabinet were designed perfectly. I'm not recommending this one for the design so It's your choice now if you want to buy this kind of laptop or not.

I've had the CW for about a day and what blows me away is the battery life. With a bright screen, wifi enabled, and three videos playing on Hulu, it lasted easily 2.5 Hrs. But on my second test with wifi shut off except when I needed to do casual browsing, with the less intensive battery power option enabled, the revolving wallpaper option disabled, and the display sometimes dimmed or shut off for a few minutes, I was able to push out 4 Hrs and 47 minutes before the computer advised me to return to AC power.

In comparison, my roommate's 15 Dell inch gets 4 hours with an extended battery. Since my config's only got the standard 6cell, I am thoroughly impressed. And since I only paid $600 for it yesterday at a local electronics store, my red Vaio CW is absolutely worth every penny!

Hello, just wanted to get the word out on the KEYBOARD SKIN for the CW. The skin I have is black, was shipped to me about a month and a half ago. After very moderate use, the arrow key portion is starting to go bad, tearing on the "left" key and in between the "up" and "down" keys. Tried to tape it from the back, but the surface is way too slippery. Tried on the front, but not very comfortable. Any ideas what material I should use for a patch...?

Overall not liking that I paid $26 for this.

I'd like to have a secondary SATA HDD in my CW-1S1EW by removing the SATA optical drive and using a slim drive HDD adapter.
I am wondering which ODD-HDD caddy could be compatible with this laptop as In Germany I didn't find any Sony branded one so far... (I have found it only for IMB or Lenovo notebooks).
For those who have already found a good Sony CW solution: please help me!

I could only find a Universal SATA one for mine and it works fine. I had to cut a bit of the plastic end off to get it to fit in my laptop, (You can see that the headphone socket is in the way) Downside is it looks slightly ugly when its in but Im not too bothered with that.

This is the site I got it from: http://www.order-bulk.com/Universal-SATA-2ND-HDD-HARD-DRIVE-caddy-Bay-UltraBay.html
It took about 2 weeks to arrive to the UK.
    Hope this helps.

    Hi guys,

My second post here, and really in need of some serious advise. There has been something currently happened to my laptop. The story is i left it for some torrent on the table like for a day. I got back to my baby and found the part underneath the touch pad really burning which was weird while i had thermal control setting to performance mode.

I restarted and it stopped at the vaio screen except this time, there was no vaio. Turn on and off again, it turned back to normal. It has happened twice. What is wrong?

To Chronoxiii, from what i see in your sign, just so happen that we have the same model and i would really like to consult you as my cw is overheating, not that it is unbearable but annoying.
On top of that, my freshly installed windows frequently alarmed undetcted usb devices while ther were none attached.

    How is your cw?

    Wonderful.

Just now, the connection between the back of my computer and the AC Adapter went loose. If I don't hold it at just the right position, it won't recognize/charge it.

Can I take this to the local Sony Style store to get it repaired?

well i used to have a cs16g that had that horrible fan problem - compared to that one, the new cw is running very cool indeed. i find that the included fan that pumps all the hot air out from the left side is very efficient. so no i dont think i get any overheating issues. the hottest my computer has ever been is around 52degrees celcius (temps from everest ultimate edition). mine only heats up on the left palm rest (maybe because of the hard drive?) and the left edge where the fan is.

i hope that answers your question!

-edit i play alot of games as well and it is always only the left side of the laptop that gets hot. oh and the bottom edge of the lcd also gets uncomfortably warm but it seems okay atm lol... the rest of the laptop feels somewhat normal

and thats a no to the usb issue, i dont think i get that.

also define overheating? windows shutting down randomly? or just gets hot?

hey guess. i'm having an issue with the heat build up. if i just leave my laptop on. it gets Very Very Hot. it never used to do it. but last two times i left it on and came back like two hours. it was BURNING on the left side all the way across.. anyway i can check the fans or something. the only thing ive done different is that i changed the power setting to power saver once. then when i changed it back, it started getting INcredible hot when i leave it idle. but when i'm using it regularly its fine.. any clues?

Thanks for your reply. I recovered my laptop to factory settings and the headt problem isnt a problem no more. However, still i have to encounter occasional alert of the event that a ghost usb device is not detectable on my computer and to dodge that, my rig has to be taked off the power source and restart. That is irritating. Dont know why.

I really need help with my sony laptop. I bought it less than 2 months ago and it often shuts down unexpectedly and shows the BlueScreen error message.

    Here's the problem details:

    Problem event name: BlueScreen
    OS version: 6.1.7600.2.0.0.768.3
    Locale ID: 1033
    BCCode: 116
    BCP1: FFFFFA800900A010
    BCP2: FFFFF88004E61B90
    BCP3: FFFFFFFFC000009A
    BCP4: 0000000000000004

I recovered my laptop to factory setting just like the tech guy from sony store told me to and it didnt seem working.

Does anyone know how to fix it? Any help is much appreciated :)

This sounds like a graphic driver issue. Try seeing if there is an update on sony site for it first.
I know they have issued an update in the past, If you already have the latest driver then try installing the earlier one

Does anyones computer make noises? like something is starting and stopping spinning every so often? Louder than I would expect from a laptop at least. Almost like a click but more like a switching sound its hard to describe. Seems to come from the front I'm really not sure thought

you should be able to take it to a sony style store. ive just had this problem, seems the dc inlet is extremely week, so i got it sent away after 4 weeks (sonys email support is rubbish, they tried to put the blame on me and make me pay!, so i phoned them instead)

if the store cant, then call sony support and get it sorted that way ;)

on another note, i get my CW back tomorrow :D been nearly 2 weeks without it (the dc inlet part was out of stock)

you really should burn recovery discs incase your CW has a hard drive failure.

but yes there is a hidden recovery partition on the CW... not quite sure what to press to access it, but there is one. it will say in the online manual on the sony website on how to access it ;)

i'll imagine it's only slightly higher than the previous gen CW, which get's around 5600 at stock clocks, so maybe 6000 depending on how sony has clocked the GT330m in the CW?

while the core i3 can execute up to 4 threads using hyperthreading, it lacks the turbo boost feature of the i5/i7, so single task performance is gonna be around the same as the P8700. it may add to the 3dmarkscore but unless the game/application uses multiple threads i dont think you will see much of a difference in games.

you would be better to ask in the i3/i5 CW owners lounge thread, you'd probably get better answers from there than here

    Hi,

Recently, My Vaio has frozen 2 times when I was only doing chatting. Anybody please help me, is it because Win 7 is still not as perfect as xp or why? I read that some people here even got blue screen when their vaio were still new

    Thank you
