Since a few people have already started receiving their F22 machines and there is no dedicated forum for this particular models, I thought I would create one.![]()
-
Been thinking of getting one of these. Have a F11.
Please post pics and details. -
I did a CTO of the 2290x and have been charged by Sony Style. I am just waiting for Sony to ship it to me, as I think it has been delayed due to the 4th of July holiday here in the US (Independence day). I hope it gets shipped by Tuesday or Wednesday and I get it by the weekend. As soon as I get it I will let you know what I think and try and take some pics. I ordered it in Silver color. I can't wait.......
-
I just received 2290x. Ordered from sonystyle.com Before I used CB15FK(korean model of CB). F22's screen quality looks better. But very annoying about fan noise. Horrible. Much frequently and much louder than CB15.
Uploaded some pics.

Its VAIO DISPLAY PREMIUM -
The lid/bezel looks just as thick as the 3D version. I expected them to make the 2D thinner.
-
-
What is the nit of the display? Could you also tell me the panel manufacture I've been eying this notebook -
I think F22's fan noise is 4 steps. And it related with cpu's MHz speed.
This model use i7 quad core and it has turbo boost. It means it's normal speed is 2000Mhz and can be up to 2900Mhz when boost. This is automatic.
So, what I found is, fan-noise is related with this cpu's Mhz, not related with usage.
And this Mhz, it seems does not changed automatically as light usage or heavy usage.
Instead, it determined by you pluged-in power cable, or use by battery, and power management setting, and vaio-control center's temperature control mode selection.
Overall, when cpu is between 700~800 Mhz, fan noise almost nothing and it is very good. But you will find some annoying slowness when heavy use or multi-tasking. (This is not recommended when gaming or watching movie, but good when just 1-2 internet surfing)
when cpu is between 1500~1999 mhz, fan noise slightly become louder and it's almost full usage. And this stage's fan can be tolerated.
(But normally, you can't go this stage because cpu use full turbo-speed or become just silence mode, 800mhz, -> solution (forcefully manually set the advanced power management setting, make 100 value to 99(%) value of CPU power management item)
when cpu is set to 100% powered (this is forcefully setted when you just pluged-in or just use power mode as 'balanced'), cpu i7's turbo-boost become active and cpu's mhz become 2800~2900, full-speed and fan-noise also become very full and louder than even as of desktop's fan noise.
-> This is over-powered for normal usage. -> Use solution of aboveLast edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
see this pic. It's korean language, but just see values and you will know.
and I used 'open hardware monitor' free software for monitoring cpu's Mhz and Temperatures.

Let me know the software or site. -
Uploaded more pics at photobucket's album.

If anyone can tell me how to get at the setting to turn numlock off I'd be most grateful.
I think this Sony is about as good as it gets. Although I wish it were WinXP so my usual programs would work.
Ah well .....
Thanks

Press Fn + Num Lock key on the numpad -
Download the free version it will be listed under video or moniter which is under hardware tab -
Hi Guys
AVMAXFAN - thanks for setting this up - been diving between the 3D thread & the F1 series thread for weeks now - I think this will be prove to be a very welcome addition!
Ordered a CTO VPCF22C5E on 24/6 and am expecting it to arrive at the Euro distribution hub in the Netherlands tomorrow, so should see it here in the UK on Friday (8/7) if I'm lucky.
Bit apprehensive as this has been ordered based mainly on specs & web reviews, I've never seen one in real life. My parents & my biz partner both have Sony E series (which they've had for >1 year with no probs - impressive, solid machines that deliver exactly what is required at that level). I need something with more poke - have had Thinkpads for the last 15 years (maybe not that stylish, but great build quality & reliability - this one has done me six years - only problem was a glass of wine over the keyboard, but that is what insurance is for).
So, really looking forward to getting the new F22 and hoping that the fan noise mentioned above will not prove too annoying. I accept that a machine of this spec with an i7 is going to need some serious cooling.
Be really interesting to see what other people think of these machines as they start to arrive.
Look forward to many interesting discussions ahead!
Best
Matt. -
Matt,
In advance, I hope you enjoy your first (?) Sony. The build on my F21 is great and - as I'm sure you know - the machine is very capable, 3D or 2D.
For the fan noise, it doesn't really going until I start playing games. I'm one to try and get the best quality and performance out of the computer, so that's when the fan really goes, though it doesn't personally bother me. I've almost tuned it out, I suppose. In typical usage (internet, music, Office), the fan may become slightly audible but it's not really much at all. -
I'll let you know what I think once I have had a chance to play!
Matt. -
Yeah, really the only times I've had the fan start sounding a little "uncomfortable" is when I set the thermal control strategy under Vaio Control Center to performance or played more demanding games such as Final Fantasy XIV and Crysis 2, both on 1080. Those instances aside, during gaming it just sounds like the fan's going, if that makes any sense.
-
But so then if you set the power management mode as [power-saving] mode, you will notice cpu drops to 900mhz and can be felt a little slower even when just normal usage(surf, word, some).
So then use above's my posted solution.
Overall, I found control method of fan noise of this model as my wish, I am very pleased.
All other aspect of this model is very good and cool. Display is very clear and good, geforce gt 540 also good.(Even this felt some inferior by other manufacturer's 550 or 555 nowadays).
Just one thing I do not like is this model's outer case materials. It looks cheap and so plain and so plastic-likely.
Other than that, very good for multi-tasking, blue-ray watching, movie watching, sound SRS feature also good, gaming, working, software coding, anything almost I did and doing. -

Has anyone tried to hook up an external monitor to the F22?
I have tried a couple of external flat screens with different display parameters (both VGA not HDMI, just to check it out) and the quality is worse than ugly. I will do more research, but I have never before come across such a problem. I'll try the HDMI next.
It could be just my particular laptop of course.
AVMAXFAN, thanks for the info on how to set off the numlock.
Thanks

Hi guys!
I have a problem here. I replaced my HDD on the F2 with the crucial m4 ssd. I have installed the recovery disc to the new ssd. But after that when I shutdown and start the laptop again, it can not boot the window from the ssd.
I tried many ways but It can not be solved. So could you guys please help me?
Thanks for all your help!!! -
Just ordered a VPCF229X (CTO) from Sony.com. Replacing my trusty, well used VGNFW139E.
Think the 2D variant was a good call by Sony, bit disappointed they didn't reduce the thickness of the screen from the F21. But in fairness I didn't really expect them to . . .
Will post first impressions when I get my hands on it.
Fingers crossed the paint stays on this one and no dodge design flaws (power button and charger barrels on the FW . . . . . ) -
Thanks for the pics and the opinions.
Can someone please compare the fan noise (during normal use) of the F2 to the fan noise of the F1. If you have had experience with both. -
This model's screen is not seemed to be premium. This is maybe plus class. But more good than other plus class vaio. sigh..
-
AFAIK the US is getting the VAIO DISPLAY PREMIUM on F22. In Asia pacific we have two models - one base model with i5 and Nvidia GT520M with VAIO DISPLAY PLUS and the one with i7 and GT540M which has VAIO DISPLAY PREMIUM

I'm reposting this from the VPCf226FM thread.
Just bought mine last thursday. LOVING it, but has anyone else had any performance issues running games? Almost every one that i run, on any detail settings, I get random frame drops. At first, it seems fine, and then I'll get them every minute or so. Game just completelyh slows to a crawl, then slams to catch up. It doesnt seem to be an issue with the computer's specs, but I haven't been able to figure it out. -
^^^
Could you post a screenshot of your processes under task manager ? I am guessing it has something to do with a program hogging resources and causing issues with gameplay.
Also try updating the GPU drivers and latest DirectX updates. -
I d k why too. -
Hi....i am just waiting on the Fed Ex truck to deliver my CTO 2290 any minute now. My question is when I go to first use it and get to the part where it says to create recovery discs, how many dvd-r discs r needed? I have upwards of 14 left, is that enough or should I expect to use more? I got my 2290 with Windows 7 professional and did not get the option of fresh start. So with that said, about how many discs? I dont want to go through the process and run out. By the way my dvd-r r Sony brand at 120 min/4.7gb.

Here you go. Doesn't seem like anything out of the ordinary. Bought it at best buy, they preinstalled webroot antivirus software, but i uninstalled it and installed avira. I was on the phone for 2 hours with sony last night. They said i might have too many games installed on the hard drive, that they stay in memory even though they arent running?????? Also, that it might help just to reinstall all my games. ?? All drivers are up to date, as well as directx.Attached Files:

What are normal operating temperatures for the GPU?
-
^^
Kill all Vaio related processes and turn the Anti Virus OFF, while playing games. Hopefully that will solve your problem.
The temps on the F should be around 75 for the GPU -
Problem, can't turn off all vaio processes. VESmgrsub.exe can't be killed in the task manager. Access is denied.
-
^^
In MSConfig under startup disable all VAIO services except VAIO SMART NETWORK.
Reboot.
Then if any VAIO process still is running disable it (Let VESmgrsub and others where access is denies running)

How do you guys find the speakers on the F2 ? Do enable Dolby Audio Enhancer and Dolby surround before posting as it makes a huge difference to the sound. -
Anyone has this error?
I guess this error occur after I activate dragonage DLC updater service or adobe acrobat standard 9 edition (pre-installed in F22)'s auto updating.
But I don't know how to fix this, I googled and there are some with this problem, and I emailed to sony but they always say restore to original state.
Unacceptible with my last 3 days gone!
But I can go back to 1 day ago cuz I backed up whole C: via TrueImage.
But is there any solution to this error? or just wait for sony's patch?
(After updating june's vaio care patch, same error) -
1. Dolby
2. S-Force Front Surround 3d
I think 2. more good than 1.
Overall, sound is very loud and clear and 3d-likely.
I used cb15, it's sound also was good even for laptops, but f22 is more. -
-
The speakers are pretty good, enabling the Dolby enhancements make a huge difference. Sat at my coffee table for two hours yesterday playing Civ 5, and when i turned it off, I realised just how good the sound was.
-
Has anyone tried overclocking theirs, like with nvidia system tools or something? I get 88-90 degrees celsius, at factory settings.
-
^^
88-90 seems a bit TOO high IMO.
Can others post their GPU temps ? It should be much less. -
I haven't heard the fan come on in the last few weeks of using the F22
Ian -
Btw yes it is possible to overclock the GT 540M. There is a thread on it in the Dell XPS forum, you guys might wanna check that out.
-
hello!
I'm currently waiting for my F22 (VPCF2290S). CTO laptops were on sale until today. i got mine for just $800!
Specs are:
i5, cd burner, gt540m, 16.4 FULL HD LCD 1920x1080 (Vaio Premium display as confirmed by Sony eSupport Canada)
Yeah this CTO model has the i5 option and even the i3. Unlike the US version (VPCF2290X) which only has i7 quad processors. I opted for the i5 because of the nature of quad cpus being loud and hot.
Still cant believe that I'm getting such a wonderful desktop-replacement computer for just $800 -
