I give them once chance and send my 15A to the repair center again.
My problems:
Screen
- areas where the light shines brighter
- noticeable from every angle, if you look from the front it's hardly noticeable but the area is a little bit darker

Touchscreen
- Windows 8.1 all BIOS updates done
- Touchscreen randomly stops working, have to fix this by changing user/reloggin in
WLAN
- It was never possible for me to copy a 200MB file using WLAN
-- it always dropped down to 0MB/s when I try to copy files from another PC
- Randomly drops the WLAN with a limited connection
-- Impossible to play multiplayer games, watch a stream, videocall, etc.
I've waited long enought for driver updates, yet none fixed it.
Also I do want to update my touchpad, too bad I can't use the default Synaptics driver. I hate the Windows 8 app switch and charm bar.
If they offer me a refund I'll take it. Since I already did two repairs.
I like the build quality and design, the keyboard flex is a bit too much and no real options for the keyboard backlight is dumb -

Debating downgrading to 250. I haven't researched what the beeps mean yet. -
Update: The BIOS downgrade fixed this issue! -
Hi, I've just bought and had delivered a 14a. Its a refurb and cost $690 (£430) and had the usual fan issue and screen jumping around. I have fixed these with bios update and recalib for the screen and all working well however I cant upgrade to windows 8.1. It downloads and installs but during the first reboot states "Windows could not finish configuring the system. To attempt to resume configuration, restart the computer". It then rolls back to 8.
Anyone else had this?? -
I don't think your situation is specific to Flips. Failed 8.1 upgrades as you've described are usually due to some incompatible program on the machine. I had it happen on my Desktop a while back, and the problem was a well documented bug with a SteelSeries driver. Mine was a gaming mouse from them. The driver was not 8.1 compatible and caused the upgrade to fail miserably. SteelSeries and MS have since worked it out and there is a new and updated SS driver package available (SteelSeries Engine).
If it's not SteelSeries in your case, then could you provide us with a list of third party programs you've installed, so that we can help you spot the culprit ?
Cheers, -

Me too. No problems so far with 260.

I only ran the downgrade because it came up in VAIO Update and I didn't check the version beforehand. -
Hello.
I am desperate and begging for help.
I have got a vaio flip 14a (sv14n13cxb) and I left US. Two days later it broke - hdd just died. Completely. So I went to replace it, but then they could not copy my recovery partition. So I have contacted Sony and they told me, that they cannot give me an image of the partition, I have to order it. It takes a long time and costs over 100USD plus shipping.
The repair guy put his windows8, but he wants it back. And he does not have a proper version (he has pro)
Sony people said, that a key for my windows is embedded in bios, but i need a recovery partition to reinstall it.
Can anybody make an image of this partition and let me copy it? Also if necessary with information what letter does it have and what size?
I know I am asking a lot, but I am really in need here and Sony is not helpfull at all, plus I really need it for my trip.
priv is [email protected]
Thank You for any assistance and I am sorry if something like this exists, I was looking for hours.

Welcome to the forum, Rafael
I have a slightly different canadian 14A.
You probably know this already, but let me say it for those who haven't done it yet : burn your Recovery media before you start using your new computers. This here is a perfect example why.
The other thing you know already : this should be free warranty repair, meaning you send the machine to Sony and they replace your dead HDD with a new one that has a Recovery partition on it. No charge.
Something you may or may not know : Recovery partitions are dependant on a few factors like : model, version of Windows (7, 8, 8.1, Home/Pro), language / country of origin and whether you have the Fresh Start option or not.
$100 to buy Recovery media sounds awfully excessive to me..
Just in case there is someone out there willing to share with you : do you want the Recov media on USB stick or DVDs ? A cheap 32GB stick can be found for about $20 (sometimes less) and DVDs are dirt cheap (like $0.20 each X 6 = $1.20 for the set). For DVDs, you need an external optical drive of course.
Good luck. -
Yep, I got my lesson, but it was just 2 days before my trip and everything was hectic. My is a US version, so I do not think there is a great difference.
I was feeling covered, because especially for the situation I have got an international geek squad protection plan. And yes it is covered, but only as a kind of insurance. I send them a bill, and they reimburse me. And repair people here do not have this partition. So no problem with repair, just with the partition.
So I would have to send it to US (customs, time, money) to get it done...
I was actually thinking of something else - if the partition could be uploaded - dropbox, mega, or ftp. I could assist in finding a place to download. So I could just download it. The rest is doable over here.
My version is US, oryginally it was win8 Home, language English (US version)
So anyone who is willing to upload the partition I would be very grateful. Even if it is not the exact model if the general specs are the same (i5, 500gb, 14A model) then the rest should be the same. And I can always give it a try.
Thanks a lot
All the best

Hi Guys
I bought a Vaio Flip 15A with the beautiful high res touch screen.
I have had nothing but problems with the screen which wants to be a touch screen at times and other times it does not.
I have installed the latest Bios,
updated all the updates from Sony and microsoft,
I have recalibrated the screen about 30 times,
I have turned on and of the HID about the same amount,
I have turned off the USB charging,
My Vaio flip while nice is not performing as it should WHY.
When the screen is not working I can touch the screen and it will respond with a different location for my touch usually at the corners but will not work.
At this stage after spending a lot of hours trying to fix what should not have to be fixed I am lost.
Can anyone help. -
May I ask for your flip display resolution type? is the internal display the 1920 x 1080 or the highres 2880 x 1620 ? As officially (when asking sony) highres 2880x1620 internal display should support 4096 x 2160 on HDMI output, though 1920 x 1080 only 1920 x 1080.
Is there anybody (else) with VAIO FLIP (15A) with internal display 1920 x 1080 running external display 2560x... 55-60Hz?
Thanks... -
Hi,
I have the Vaio Fit 13a. Its the 8gb and 128gb SSD drive from BestBuy. I'm having some trouble with the display. It seems rather blurry displaying texts either in device manager windows or in Chrome brower. Thought my eyes were going bad. Anyone have suggestions?
Thanks. -
I'm in Europe too - got mine here: PREMIUM 1M/2M/3M/5M/6M/10M HDMI v1.4 GOLD Cable HDTV 3D 1080P 2160P Lead - Kumo® | eBay
Your computer shouldn't have any issues regardless of your internal display resolution - both the integrated Intel graphics and the Nvidia card are fully able to drive monitors at 2560x1620@60hz. The problem should only be with your monitor and how Dell has configured it's HDMI port. With the U2711 it worked fine with the right cable and setting custom resolution - can not guarantee that it will work with the U2713HM, but it would be peculiar if they had downgraded the port from the older model. -
Thanks a lot for the cable tip, I will check it and order it!
Are you running Vaio (Flip 15A) with internal display 1920x1080 ?
Or the 2880 x 1620 ?
Just to be sure, because so far I have neither positive, neither negative "wittness" reference case claiming really [Vaio Flip 15A internal 1920x1080] running with external 2560x1440@Hz resolution. And ... I'm almost at the point thinking devil is in the details..., I have to be sure, if this is not possible I have to return flip in now ending return period and (maybe) order it's higher resolution internal display version.
(As I've said sony officially states lowres internal display doesn't have highres on HDMI, only highres internal display can do that)
As for the monitor, I'm almost sure this type of the monitor can't handle it, dell support says this in its support forum, claiming that brother model U2713H can do it. I guess U2711 could have simply different wiring which can be more close to U2713H then U2713HM:
U2713HM via HDMI will only do 1920x1080 by design - Monitors Forum - Peripherals - Dell Community
So I think I will end also with replacing monitor, I'll see.
Thanks! -
You're right, how strange. Even the Japanese site claims the model with the 1920 screen only supports 1920x1080 on the HDMI out. Perhaps as you say, the devil is in the details - but I would think this is a mistake on Sonys part.
I'm running the 2880 version.
Over here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/acc...g-2560x1440-1440p-signal-via-hdmi-output.html
you'll find a guy who managed 2560x1440@55Hz (with a Lenovo Y500P) on your monitor using an HDMI>DVI cable (the one I only managed 40Hz).
There's also a bit more of a generic guide over here: 2560x1440 or 2560x1600 via HDMI - NotebookCheck.net Tech -

Does anyone know the max speed for SD card supported by the card reader? I found out from Specifications | VAIO Fit 11A / 13A / 14A / 15A | VAIO® Computers | Sony that it supports UHS-1 but upto SDR50, which according to sdcard.org is minimum speed of 50 MB/s. So does that mean it's pointless to buy higher speed cards like Sandisk Extreme Plus which is rated at 80 MB/s?

Source - Vaio Flip 15A 1920x1080 itself is here in doubt.
If anyone has got Vaio Flip 15A 1920x1080 running via HDMI some external display with high resolution like 2560x1440@60Hz, or knows something about limitations or possibilities of such arrangement, please chime in. -

Seems this thread has too many "owners". -
So finally caved to the daily messages to "downgrade" from the 260 bios to the 250 (flip15a - U.S.) and the fan is MUCH less frequent now. Perhaps that's why they pulled 260.

Question. I have a 14A and this morning HDMI output was not working. Unplugged it and on the laptop screen found the brightness keys non-functional. Did a restart and computer would not restart. When power is plugged in, no power indicator. Mother board? Thanks

It has come to our attention that some of the internal, non-removable battery packs provided to us by a third-party supplier and included in 368 units of VAIO Fit 11A/Flip PC released in February 2014 have the potential to overheat resulting in partial burns to the housing of the PC.

I bought vaio flip 15"
Received a few days ago , I have not tested much but I can say so far so good, the screen is amazingly colorfull and bright , and the pc is just silent , the fan only starts a little when I open a browser but I didn't notice untill I tought about .
I have not yet tested heavy demanding programs because befoure I wanted to make some questions.
Doesit usually have a backup recovery this pc ? Or Zi need to create one? In case how can I do to clone the starting setup of the pc on another hd perhaps or in a partition for a future recoverpy?
I want to do this b4 I install anything on it.
Also do you have any sugested screen protector to save the screen from scratpches , fingerprints and so on?
Also what should I test on the new pc to be sure its all working fine?
The only weird thing I noticed seems the brightness of screen that seems to self regulate gradually increasing when Zi change image or screen or application.
Why that ? -
-
Hello to all, I'm just looking to buy Sony Flip 13a because I like the display but I'm a bit worried about wifi issues, what is your experience?... do you have wifi issues on this model, do you have any issues?
Thanks! -
-
You should burn recovery media. I used Vaio Care (desktop) - you find it under Advanced Tools.
I don't think it really matters what you install on it, as it should be using the hidden recovery partition to create it.
When/if you need to put it back, turn off the computer, insert the recovery media, press the Assist button and follow the instructions.
The self-regulating brightness is either the Intel stuff trying to make adjustments between dark and light scenes, which is annoying - you can find it under Intel graphic properties/power/on battery, turn off display power saving technology, or it's the Windows auto-brightness which you can find under your right-side charms/settings/PC and devices/Power and Sleep/Brightness.
I know it's a bit annoying to read long threads such as this, but you'll find all this information available already.
Screen protectors I have no idea about - using mine without one, I expect it will hold up well against scratches, but finger prints of course is another matter. -
Hi!
I'm 2 days away from the arrival of my Flip15.
I know it's a question took for a thousand of times but I will ask it once again
What is the correct update order ? 1. the sony care -> 2. Drivers & bloatware -> 3. Windows8 to 8.1 ? -
Hello!
I got my 15A about two months ago and I've had a very good experience with it. I love the flip design, the nice screen and the digitizer pen. I found the licenses for Sony's video and sound editors to be a nice bonus as well.
There have been two troubling issues. One being the high dpi 2880x1620 screen which is great with software which have been optimized for it, but a pain in other cases. This isn't Sony's fault of course, but still an issue. I've created a thread dedicated to this, where I hope people will contribute with links to software and websites working great on such resolutions: http://forum.notebookreview.com/windows-os-software/749858-high-dpi-friendly-software-websites.html
The other issue is that touch functionalities sometimes (seemingly randomly) stop working. I read about this further back in the thread and plugging in or out the AC adapter seems to solve this temporarily. Does anyone know of a definite fix? -
are you sure that you will receive a Win8 machine?
I bought mine - a SVF15N2Z2E-model - about three weeks ago and it already came with Win8.1 and all drivers installed.
It's one of those Spring models with Photoshop Elements 12 preinstalled (I have no problem with *this* kind of bloatware! ;-) ) -
The was I see it is that those resolutions are somewhat future-proof on a 15" screen - I expect more and more programs to get fixed/patched or replaced by newer versions quickly as we now have full HD screens for quite a while. The manufacturers also want to sell new monitors to keep making money...
Personally, I'm very pragmatic in this regard: If a program is unusable on my Flip15 it gets deleted and I either wait for an update or get a product from the competition. Of course: The Flip isn't my main machine so I can allow me this luxury. ;-)
When I have more experience with the Flip I will post some infos there.
If it's the former it may have to do with the power manager dropping USB devices to save power. You can remedy this by changing a single setting in the device manager entry for the touchpad but I can't give you the exact location (I didn't need to do that since I have a Spring '14 Flip model that already had this fixed). Search this thread!
For the latter Sony apparently offers a touch screen calibration utility so you may want to try that. -
Yeah I'm sure. The official site states 8 and I tried the same model in a store.
In case of Sony, the hungarian perspective was always a bit medieval
