    hmm, got it, but I would like to stick to afterburner, it seems that the highest I can go is 585/850 (mem can go higher), but I think that is enough (from 450/790). If anybody knows how to bypass msi afterburner's hardware limitation for core clock, please share.

    The config file named after device adress (normally located in C:\Program Files (x86)\MSI Afterburner\Profiles) can be edited to whatever number you want it to.

    Code:
    [Startup]
    CoreClk=0
    MemClk=0
    FanSpeed=0
    [Profile1]
    CoreClk=450000 [B]<- Default clock setting (profile allows dynamic change 150-450)[/B]
    MemClk=790000
    FanSpeed=1
    [Profile2]
    CoreClk=580000 [B]<- just put in one gazillion billions on this line![/B]
    MemClk=850000
    FanSpeed=1
    after editing, restart MSI afterburner.

    Hey Guys.. I got my E-Series from sonystyle with a i5-520 and 4GB RAM, ATI 5650 1GB and Bluray.. thats my config..

    But..

    I've the high pitch noise sound, which occurs when I use the computer just with battery and some USB ports are used! It's with power adapter too, but really quiet, I have to put my ear in front of the keyboard to hear it.

    Is there any solution already for this problem?

    and by the way, I reinstalled win 7 on my vaio and now the assist, web and vaio buttons are not really working, especially the web buttion doesnt work at the beginning, when the computer is turned off.. how to make them working?

    High pitched noise is a function of Intel processors and will need a Sony update to fix.

    As for the buttons, you need to install the following if you haven't already:

    Sony Firmware Extension Parser
    Sony Shared Library
    Setting Utility Series
    VAIO Event Service

    For quick web access you'll also need to install, unsurprisingly, Quick Web Access.

    i want to format my laptop and install windows 7 ultimate. But i want to create recovery disks also so later i can restore to original windows the laptop came with.
    Is it possible ? Because the recovery partition will be deleted when i install new OS.
    I tried to create recovery disks but it showed error on 12% that disc can't be created and the process was damn slow.
    Please help me
    Thanks

    Do you know where to download "Quick Web Access" ?? I cannot find the software anywhere..

    If you find it, I would be surprised...

    I was looking here: http://support.sony-europe.com/

    and then under my version... but didnt find anything

    Regarding the high pitch noise, I hope that sony fixes that as soon as possible, because its annoying... really!

    it's not only in vaios... it happens in most new processors (i3 i5 etc), so Intel has to do smth about it, not sony.
    btw, I never used the WEB button before, now after a clean install, it says it needs quick web access as well. Well, it's just a curiousity, not that I really need that, but where to find it to install? :)

    3dmark 06 question here.

    I've got the i5 420m, 5650, 3gb with 1080 screen.

    I'm only getting 3000 points on 3dmark! This is way below what it should be right? Is there some settings that I might have on that is affecting performance??

    Just realizing that all 3 UCB ports are on the right side toward the front of the unit... is this a problem when you have the usb/mouse stick in there and you are navigating your mouse? ie. do you hit the things sticking out of the usb ports with your hand??? Seems they are right in the way where I would want my mouse to be. :( ..anyone found this to be a problem? thanks much

    I am having the following problems with my computer-
    1. Sometimes When i boot my computer, after entering the password it shows "welcome" for some time and then it suddenly starts showing "preparing your desktop"and leads me to a desktop view which resembles the windows 98 in appearance with no wallpaper and shows a dialog box which has the following message
    C: \windows\system32\config\systemprofile\desktop is not acessible.
    Acess is denied.
    And the start button etc work during this time and it appears that the system does hang during this time. And after restarting most the problem gets solved. Please help me

    Did you use AMD GPU Clock Tool to OC, or did u find a way to bypass the msi afterburner limitations? I read somewhere that it's possible with msi, but one has to flash the bios to a msi one... :rolleyes:
    I don't know if it's worth the trouble... for ~60/80 core plus...

    Hi guys
    I just bought a EB1S1E
    the screen isn't it's strong point as many said, so I've spent some time fiddling with the color options inside the ati control panel.
    after every restart screen returns to original settings and I have to go inside the ati panel and select "Reactivate ATI color controls" because there is a third application taking over control.
    Does anyone know which 3rd application is that?

    I doubt you're going to see Optimus in a budget line, which is what the E-Series is. And besides.. Optimus would mean having a weaker GPU - no thanks. I'd wager the E-series will remain ATI, Sony have already said that the F's will remain Nvidia. I don't think the E will see a major update since it's only a few months old. Maybe a small processor update, but that's about it.

    Of course I might prove to be entirely wrong :p

    One new problem I am having with the e-series is the screen brightness when waking from Hibernate..

    Every time I turn it on from hibernation, the screen is on full-brightness and cannot be turned down without me closing and re-opeining it...

    Anyone know of a fix?

    I wouldn't have a problem sticking with ATI if they'd actually give the USA E series the 5650, instead we get the 5470. :(

    edit: ignore, this is wrong

    The only way to do that would be by putting the second drive in place of the optical (DVD/Blu Ray) drive

    that's right, no option for the 2nd hdd unless the optical is removed... it's the E(conomic) series, Sony had to squeeze it all up as much as possible...

    Actually, I think what I said yesterday was wrong - if I recall correctly (and I can't check at the moment because it's been removed from Sony's website), the 17" EC series can be customised with two HDDs. I think you HAVE to order it with two HDDs already in it, though, or they'll rip out the connectors for the second bay leaving it unusable. That model you linked wouldn't work because it only has one.

    And no, the graphics aren't switchable.

    Just got my 17 inch EC series today. In general am very pleased with the product. Only thing I dislike is the poor trackpad.

    I am also having issues with firebox and internet explorer constantly by itself clicking the back button (i.e going back to previous page). Anyone else having this issue. Is it to do with a shortcut on the track pad or something?

    Can't say I've had that myself, but there is a trackpad shortcut for moving backwards/forwards - flicking left or right on the pad with two fingers. You can probably turn it off in the trackpad settings.

    Thanks

    One more question. When using the quick WEB sony button, is it possible to use firefox as the browser with all your bookmarks etc.

    Is anything from the sony dropdown bar that sits on the top of the screen actually useful? Is there anyway to remove it as it gets in the way not to mention looks horrible.

    Sorry, another question. What software are people using for bluray playback? Are people using the default windvd? Are there better ones? Just tested a blu ray movie and the results were quite dissapointing.

    The WEB button launches whichever browswer you set as your default, I don't think you can specify a specific browser to launch.

    Edit: Oh wait, you mean when quick booting using quick web access? No, I don't think you can use a different browser.

    Dropdown bar at the top is VAIO Gate - it's pretty useless, just a quicklaunch bar, which you can use the Windows taskbar for. Can hide it or uninstall.

    re: Blu-ray players, there isn't much choice. The only programs out there that can play blu-ray discs are commercial software that you'd have to buy, and really, they're each as good as the other.

    Thanks again for the reply.

    Regarding the quick WEB access thing, I guess it is useless if you cant use your normal web browser for it.

    This quick WEB feature was one of the reasons why I got a Sony as I hate waiting for computers to boot up whether it be 1 minute or more. With all these processors getting more and more powerful I dont know why instant boot up is not yet possible with computers.

    Ok given the above I am going to upgrade my harddrive to a 500GB 7200rpm model (something I wanted to do originally but had second thoughts as it would remove the quick WEB access functionality) and use the hardrive in my laptop to put into my PS3. I guess there is nothing special I need to do given that I dont think I need the WEB quick launch function anymore or any of other Sony's software. i.e I just install a fresh version of Windows 7 onto the new drive and all other software I want.

    I am asking because I am confused with all these clean install posts and how they seem to make out an install is quite complicated. I am assuming the clean install posts are about doing a clean install whilst keeping the little quirks present on Sony laptops working (e.g the quick WEB button).

    Surely I can buy a new harddrive and just install Window 7, office 2007, and creative suite 5 and be done with it knowing there is no junk installed to slow down the system.

    The bottleneck with startup time isn't processors, its the HDDs. SSD are a whole lot quicker but still not instant. If you're looking at a new HDD and not willing to shell out for a SSD, you might want to consider the Seagate Momentus XT HDD/SSD hybrid, which is getting pretty favourable reviews.

    Installing Windows itself is the easy part - it's the drivers that all those clean install posts are concerned with. But if you know what you're doing with your driver installation, and you have them all prepared and ready to install, then yes, it's not too tough.

    One point to remember: on the original HDD that came with your computer, there's a recovery partition that lets you restore the machine to its factory fresh state if anything goes wrong, which you won't have on your clean install - so make sure you create the Sony recovery discs before you do the switcheroo.

    Hello All...I was considering getting an 15" E-Series Vaio, and I was wondering if someone could speak to a few items of concern -

    1.) What type of battery life are you guys experiencing with your model. I was looking at getting the i5 ATi 5650 version on Newegg, however people have commented on poor battery life.

    2.) Do any of the models have switchable graphics? I am not really a gamer per se anymore, but if i want to play something, I would like to have the flexibility to actually play that game. I also do a lot of video editing which that would come in handy for.

    Any other information would be beneficial. I was really considering the Vaio vs the HP DV6t Select Edition.

    Let me know your take.
