if they can do it on the s for 1000 bucks they can do it on this series.
-
-
There's no switchable graphics on S series. Sony doesn't need 15" with this features. It would just break the image of their premium models. They just wanted to make budget model for kids and house-wife
-
Woot...some from JP Sonystyle had to read my post. Today new Z and EB appeared on their site
And as I expected, they offer Core i7-620M along with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 in JP CTO
The only downside is, they offer FullHD just for Black and White glossy edition.
//sorry for doublepost btw -
i7 620m: http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=43560
i5 520m: http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=47341 -
Plus you got 3 years warranty
How much does it cost with 4GB ram 620M HD 5650 and 320GB HDD ? -
-
FullHD
ATI HD 5650
Core i7-620M
4GB RAM
320GB HDD
DVD drive
= ¥139 800 = cca $1 550
Don't care about the warranty much...I'll open the notebook right away anyway
I guess that i7 for US/EU models will come with next refresh (maybe in 3 months?)... -
it can even better 8gb ram, 640gb hdd and bluray
I wish it was available in Europe -
-
I agree, it'd be silly if they didn't have it, but Sony has been known to make some head-scratcher design decisions. So like I said, I'll believe it when I see it. -
.
I'll wait next refresh and hope they'll add i7 620m as option for EU,
or ill buy the i3 and upgrade it myself if they don't solder it to MB -
I think I'll wait for the review of its FullHD screen of some US customers first
Also I'm not in Japan right now, and sending it via EMS is a bit risky...
-
I would like the full hd screen much more, but I will live without it. After all icons can be made smaller in windows, and webpage/text can be made smaller in firefox/chrome. Even word documents (and thus i am sure all office).
And it would put less strain on the gpu, keeping it cooler and a longer battery (also the battery life would decrease when so many more pixels.
We know vaios (most at least) are not loved for their battery life, and adding all this would only make it lower. or so I thought, but in europe they have full hd. So I do not know what to say. -
About the resolution, for me neither 1366/768 and 1920*1080 are ideal. I wish more brands would offer 1440/900 or 1600/900. For the mainstream user that seems a lot more reasonable than 1080P on 15 inch. Sure, some people will appreciate 1080P on 15 inch and yes you can increase DPI etc, but for the mainstream user a little lower res would be great.
Also I hope the touchpad will be much better than the one on the NW series. Seriously, some people say that touchpad was great? For me it was the biggest NO GO on the entire NW series! Never seen such a crappy cheap touchpad as on the NW series.
Edit: I've contacted Sony in the Netherlands today, and they told me the E series DO NOT have a led backlight. -
New review ! No LED backlit screen.

Thank you! They didn't even mention, which resolution they got, but I suspect it's the low one. Why everyone got the model with i3, low res for reviewing? I would like to see review of EB with FullHD, ATI HD 5650 and at least i5 processor to see, what can we get out of it.
-
Here is a new one, with video too. My PC is broken and I can't see the video on my iPhone or my PS3. Could somebody move it on Youtube please ?
http://gadgets.softpedia.com/news/L...y-039-s-Vaio-EB-Series-Notebooks-8022-01.html -
I saw the video on my friend's PC, no big deal. I'm so furious because in my country, the IT shops are selling EB only in white colour. I'm not buying this laptop on white, never ever. I'm searching for a black one...
-
Where are you from? Just curious...
Sony is quite limiting colors with this "colorful line". In Japan, if you want to configure one with FullHD, you have to choose just between glossy black or white. With low res there are 7 colors to choose including two matte colors!!
-
Romania, lol, land of choise.
-
Well same situation with the "white only" is in Czech republic. Apparently Sony doesn't care much about the countries where is no SonyStyle...sad
-
Hi all,I have posted already on this forum asking for advice - http://forum.notebookreview.com/show....php?p=5908996
What I would like to know is what you think of the E Series compared to the others? Could anyone who has one tell me what the build quality is like? also would you recommend it? Thanks in advance for any replies. -
Not really good review in Japanese. Still waiting for you US guys for the first FullHD screen impressions
-
-
By typed you mean like printed on the cover, not being part of the lid like in case of Z? I don't recall how the lid looks like on the CW, but from the pictures of EB it looks like it's printed on the top, which seems to make even small shadow
The black EB in the "review" seems to be the FullHD and it looks better than the screen on low res pink version...but it's probably not possible to guess the quality of the screen from such small low quality pics. -
-
Well it seems it's the same as on the CW than. Most probably because it's the same glossy plastics as on the CW, not carbon fiber reinforced plastic like on Z/T/...
But none of them is perfect. As lid on my Z seems to be nearly unscratchable, the silver VAIO logo got some scratches over time... -
And if I go for a matte one ?
Joking
P.S. You are lucky with that Z. -
Well the matte one will be most probably the same, but I'm not sure how it'll be possible to configure. In Japan if you want to choose FullHD, you have choice just between glossy black or white. And my wife wanted the pink one so much
...her TX seems to have last few moments on this Earth...

Here is a review

By the way, someone was asking about the performance advantage of the EB over the NW, and that review lets you compare them pretty easily...
PCMark Vantage:

Good review, and this is the low configuration. I'm looking forward for a i5 and ATI Radeon HD 5650 review.
-
Thank you! But...in specs it's written Native Resolution - 1920x1080, and in the review:
-
i must say i would be happy with 720p. you can make text smaller in word, webpages smaller in chrome/firefox, and it taxes the gpu less, thus saving battery. And gaming is less demanding. All that works up to "well i ought to get used to whats in my budget" and I have wxga now.
-
Question ! If I connect the laptop to a HDTV with the HDMI, and the HDTV is connected to my 5.1 station...the sound will come from laptop, HDTV or 5.1 station ?
-
-
Sorry, I was meaning home theater receiver (not my native language)
It's ok then, but unfortunately I will not manage to take out from HDTV to reciver a digital sound, it will be a analog one. Thanks for the awnser !
-
My E-series is underway to the logistics center ^__^ can't wait!

So guys - first impressions, a lot of pictures, screen opinions and so on...you know the drill
-
My budget is $1000 in which i wanna get the CW or the E Series, but i cant decide
which gets me better specs within $1000?
im trying to get the F for $1300 but incase i can't get the extra $300 then im deciding between the CW and the E
im leaning towards the E but i dont know how the build quality would be
here is my "What Notebook Should I Buy?" post, check it out, and let me know what you guys think, thanks
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=462235
also, could someone shed some light on this problem i've been reading about on the i7-720qm? -
According to the UPS tracking details I can expect my notebook tomorrow!
-
-
When do you think the ATI HD 5650 1GB will be available on SonyStyle USA CTO mode ? I can't order it because of this.
-
. How much will cost in US with ATI HD 5650 ??
-
-
Well I've got mine a few hours ago and I love my new Vaio!
A few first impressions:
- The screen is great, (full hd) the colours are just beautiful!
- The keyboard is really good and really well-built
- The overall build-quality is very good
- I've got the glossy black version with a nice underlaying pattern, a little hard to explain
- The fan doesn't make much sound at all, when i'm just surfing/listening to music I can hardly hear it
- And last but not least, it's really fast so far! And is doing great with multitasking.
My previous notebook was an Acer Aspire 5920.
I'll be back later with more info etc. -
Good work - get some pics up. I'm based in UK - my 2.5 year old Samsung R70 just broke and am looking to purchase the E-series with all upgrades via Sony Style UK (minus Blu-Ray writer) for about £900
Do you have the Radeon HD5650 - do you know if they have underclocked the GPU at all? 3d Mark score? -
Hi I just ran into trouble with making recovery discs on my wife's new EB series vaio. The display wouldn't com Back on after Closing the lid and I powered off abruptly. I have recovery discs and a system repair disc for my F series. Will these work for the eb series as I wasn't able to complete them ?
-
The new E series are available for immediate purchase in Hong Kong from yesterday. I played with it today and I must say it's definitely worth it's price. I was impressed with the laptop.
