You should have still applied! I am not in college yet and they still gave me the discount.

I remember saying a while ago I would buy him a computer, and now since I had enough money, I finally did it.
I wanted to follow the law. -
The guy on the phone from Sony told me I could lol. Could not pass it up. And that was really nice of you to buy your bro that!
-
i ordered the sr290 CTO and it has the 256mb gddr3 ram.
-
Two more weeks until the SR290 I ordered comes; I hope there are no dead pixels

hope that helps
-
Thanks!!!!!
Sorry, I didn't fint this thread before -
how long does the building step take, cause it started today, and i was just curious and anxious to receive my SR.
-
Did you run 3Dmark06 to see how it did against the 128mb version? How long have you had it now? -
I noticed that once the cooling fan start running, it never stop though the temperature gradually decreases, is the same for you? Your fan stop running after some time? thx
-
If you go to Vaio Control Center and Power Options and go to "Vaio Power Management" - there is an option to set the thermal profile to "Quiet" vs. "Performance." I personally just keep it on performance while on AC and on "Quiet" while on battery.
-
thanks, now the fan is very more quiet! although it never stops, it run very very slow, it's right? do you think it's normale that fan never stop running? thx again

I ordered mine Tue, Nov 25th and being the holiday week here, not much happened. It was listed as 'pending' with a ship date of 12/3, then changed to 12/4. I logged back in to sonystyle yesterday morning and it said it was being 'built', then later that day it had shipped from Sandiego, CA with a delivery date of 12/5.
So 10 days from order to delivery including sat/sun and a holiday. -
The building step from when my order was processed to when it was sent out to be shipped was 2 days.
-
really? my estimated ship date is 1-12-09 when i bought it in 11-26-08
-
I think mark got it a while back when they had plenty in stock. You just purchase your. It is currently back-ordered plus there was a lot of SR buyer (from what I read on other forum) during the holidays...so maybe that's why yours is going to take a while.
-
Yeah that is most likely the case with your SR. A lot of people jumped on the deal and its back ordered. It's worth the wait
-
so does that mean it will still be shipped at 1-12-09? even though it is being built right now?
-
Thats the date when they expect it to be at your door. Fortunately mine came a day earlier than their estimate said it would.
-
I am the new proud owner of a Black SR290CTO. Came in today!
No questions yet, but hello everyone! -
Okay, I have a question for TonyTheTiger (you're a popular fellow!)
Do you have the Tucano 9 Dot 13.1'' sized case to fit your SR? I believe the item number starts with BF-S...
Thanks in advance. -
i have had it for 2 days. i will benchmark some games against my sr190 with 128mb gddr2. as well as 3dmark.
-
Same here! Everything on mine is great so far, except it is pretty slow. But I suspect that is due to the 2gb of ram and the slow 120gb hard drive. (Got the cheapest of each so i can upgrade after).
I ordered 4gb of corsair ram, and a 320 gb seagate hard drive 7200 rpm. After that it should fly! -
hd3470 in the sr190 has gddr3
-
Hi
Welcome to the forum, and Congrats on your new laptop!
I have the 14.1" one, the 13.1" sized case looked a little too small so I went for the 14.1" one. I'm not sure how it will fit with the SR. -
i really hope i can get it before christmas, i dont think i can wait that long
-
Thanks for the welcome!
Does your SR move around in the 14.1? The stores around here only have the 13.1 Tucano...the rest are all MacBook sized ones.
ToshibaDude, a semi-clean install seemed to help a bit. But everything moves so fast anyway, compared to my old Toshiba.
-
OH MA GAH, my sony sr is gonna arrive tomorrow!, BUT no one is gonna be home until like 3, what happens then, do they leave it at the door? or what
-
So I just cancelled an order for the SR290 because I found a GREAT deal on an open-box SR190 for $500 (2.4Ghz proc, 4 gigs ram, 320 gig drive).
Looking at spec sheets, I couldn't see what the difference was between the 190 and 290. Does anyone know? On paper, they seem identical... same bus speed, everything.
Also, can I run 32-bit Windows XP on the SR190? -
Yup u can , the only difference that u can get HDMI port in SR290
-
the width of the case is about the same as the SR, but it's a little taller than the SR.
The 13.1" should work just fine with the SR, the case is very stretchable, and it has a flap to prevent the case from scratching the laptop.
the Macbook cases should work just fine too. Since the Macbook and the SR are about the same size -
you better call in sick for work.
the fedex tracking on mine says signature required at time of delivery. -
signature is required
-
Maybe you can run to pick it up after work at the Fedex facility it's sitting at if it misses you.
-
I ended up going for a Brenthaven 14'' ballistic vinyl case. I tried out the 13.1'', boy, it fits, but the flaps take some stretching to get over the edges.
I'll post up a comparison review, after my finals
-
No one was home when they delivered mine. Dumb Fedex left it there! Good thing theress no Sony logo on the outer shipping box.
-
it came but i missed it by 20 mins, but its coming again tomorrow, if i m not there again then 3rd, if not again, then it is going to be in the fed ex facility, if still not picked up in 7 days, it gets shipped back to sony, hope that doesn't happen. I really want to get it back tomorrow.
-
Wow thats a bummer. Hopefully your able to get it tomorrow. Good luck
-
Well, for what it's worth, my SR290 came yesterday.
Mine is the night black, P8600, ATI card. I'm soon going to be putting in 4gb of ram and a 320 gb hard drive once they get delivered to my house.
All I can say is that you will love it. I had the intention of selling mine because I traded in a old laptop, and got discounts and I could have sold it for a profit of 4-500, but once I opened it I immediately decided to keep it.
It's a really nice little computer and is well built, the screen is amazing and better compared to my 2 year old Macbook Pro.
Hope you guys enjoy yours once you get it!! -
It runs a lot cooler than the MBP too!
Congrats and enjoy your SR
-
Definately, the Vaio SR is a lot better than most, if not all of the laptops out there for the price, IMO. I recently exchanged my vaio sr 210 for a 290 with p8600 and 4gb ram, ATI 3470, Can't wait until I get it; in anther week and a half... I hope the mailman don't just leave the laptop outside if I am not home like it did for someone on this forum...
-
ToshibaDude, I'm already loving this thing. Just gotta finish cycling the battery - takes forever to charge this thing!
Back to matlab and bode plots... -
ToshibaDude, i honestly said the exact same thing and here i am... like 2 months later...still with my 2gb of ram of 160gb hdd. Honestly, if you tweak vista(which you must do anyways), everything will run very quickly anyways. Vista flies on my SR...and i mean absolutley flies.... i did minimal tweaking, just standard stuff... turned off indexing, shut off sony services/other services no one uses, and used cc cleaner to disable software i dont like. Plus, as always, remove most of the sony junkware(its useless, don't be fooled...) Just make sure never to delete sony event service....
Anyway, point being, unless your really into gaming or just want bragging rights, the ram and hdd upgrade can hold off for a couple of months-a year...
This is really something ALL VISTA owners must do.....
so dont forget... TWEAK VISTA. There is a good thread on nbr.com and dont do anything your not comfortable with, but make sure to turn off indexing.... and deactivate the constant updating that liveonecare tries to do -
Is cycling the battery part of an option in a Sony software, or is it a manual process?
-
its a manual process
you completely drain the battery and then charge it all the way back up -
i was wondering, once i get my vaio, i will probably just remove the battery and plug it in to use until i bring it somewhere, do you think it will be bad for the battery if i leave it unused for long periods of time?
-
Nah, just keep it somewhere cool and dry.
And cycle it at least once a month -
Honestly, I've never really paid much attention to the whole battery thing. I just put the battery in, plug the ac and leave it on the whole night.
I don't think cycling or not cycling will hurt your battery length that much.
As for my upgrades, I need more space, and the seagate hard drive was on sale, the ram was on sale too. Vista is definitely slow right now for me, but I haven't done any of the tweaking yet because I'm waiting for my new hard drive.
One thing I will say though, is that the resolution is too low for me, especially compared to my 1440x900 MBP. But that is a very minor point, and is why I have a HDMI for external hookups
-
Oh another thing...the speakers are absolutely horrible, but Im going to mainly use this for business anyway.
-
its not just about battery life
In order to see the correct battery information on your computer, you should perform routine battery calibrations about once per month
Yeah, I agree
try updating the audio driver, it will help quite a bit
