Another note on the battery life; dedicated video card w/ 4:34 battery life (from my experience) is exCELLENT!

Hi, kind of a stupid question, but does anyone know if I buy the SR with a ATI 3470 now, will I later be able to upgrade it to the 4570?

I suppose not. The graphic component of the SR should be part of the motherboard. Better purchase directly the right model.

Yeah, the GPU is probably firmly attached on the motherboard somewhere. Besides the RAM and the HD, the only other upgradable part is possibly the CPU. And that's with a big "maybe". It doesn't look too complicated, judging from the couple pictures of opened Vaios, but I can so clearly see something getting screwed up in the process. It isn't like in a desktop computer where you can just snap the heat sink off and then lift the CPU out.

But anyway, if you're looking for a cheaper option, get the one with the faster GPU right away (as in: a T6400 CPU, 4 gigs of RAM, 320Gb 5400RPM HD). Then add more RAM and a faster HD later, and a faster processor, if it's not too complicated.

Hello guys! I'm getting my VAIO SR in 24 hours. What things should I do when I get it?

I'm planning to make back-up DVDs, Should I drain my battery? If yes, how?

Can someone give me FPS numbers for COD4/5 or something similar? Also, what's the difference between the sr420, 450, 490, etc? I'm planning on getting the 490.

Redeeming your accessory bundle is easy! Just purchase your preferred VAIO® Z, BZ or SR notebook and then go to sony.com/VAIOSMB to review the terms and conditions of the offer as well as the instructions on how to receive your bundle.

    SR400 series differences:

    SR490 - CTO model
    non-SR490 (such as SR420) - pre-config (non-CTO) model

How's yours, Qeuqeu? About this issue, while about half have it, others dont really suffer right? So what's the difference there?
And is there a fix for this yet (except removing your battery). Man, this's not a small issue, I guess that we have to push Sony real hard about this

I've been wondering. For just traveling and typing/taking notes in class...how long will the battery last me? Probably will have wifi on, bluetooth off, and just word processor. Basically it has to last long enough for a few classes before it runs out of juice.

You know, JJ, you could probably change your signature so it's not so self-deprecating. You're a great asset to NBR and we all make mistakes, but you calling out that your stupid and lazy kind of takes value away from your factual and useful posts, especially when your self-assessment is in capitalized red font ;)

Man the sony rebates suck a lot. I have a pending $100 rebate that when you pre-qualify puts in a date of 2007 when you try to submit even if you place 2009 as the actual purchase date. Then the windows 7 qualification is fine until you reach the order in which my computer the sr420 isn't listed on their databases even tho it is when you pre qualify. What a mess. hopefully everything gets resolved. hope everyone else is enjoying their sony Sr notebooks. so far battery and overall build is not bad.

You wait til it gets released.

THE WINDOWS 7 UPGRADE IS JUST A "PREORDER" if you get that.

Or you download the release candidate.

Is this an upgrade or a stand alone Window 7?

Doesn't matter, you will be able to clean install Win7 even with an upgrade copy.

June 26th is when the free upgrade was eligible.

Yes, a free Windows 7 upgrade is offered for Vaio notebook purchases on SonyStyle from now. You'll have to register for this free upgrade on the Sony web site after you've received your notebook to be eligible for this offer. Good luck. :)

I did it looks like its going to take them a while to update it on the order page (not the pre qualify page). Sucks you'd figure it wouldn't be too hard to add it since some of the rebate companies have already done this. Hopefully things work out soon.

Do you all put a piece of thicker cloth on your screen when you close your lid on your SR? I just order my SR and thats what I will do.

I think my Z got some scratch mark on the screen is because I put it inside my backpack and it squeeze inside and thats what causes it.

I dont know how 1366x768(Z) vs 1280x800(SR) will play out and will I miss it.

I sure cant handle 1600x1200 on a 13" screen. I might have to look 1" from the screen.

I am going to use those free hotel towels and cut it into shape.

I notice the Sony laptop screen is thin and very flex.

The overall quality is pretty solid. The LCD screen is what I worry about. It's very thin and feelings unstrudy...I've only have been able to try one at the sony store though....

Then what is the best way to put it in your back pack with your SR?

Get a metal casing pouch for it? LOL

The lid on the SR and Z is thin. You can warp or flex it. Look at the Dell 14z lid. Its pretty solid.

Anyone here had done the order with JR and the bing thing?

You see the 5% back on your bing in 1-2 days? I think order with your hotmail will make cashback faster?

I order yesterday and my Visa takes me for a round about. First its a fraud alert and I tell them no. Then it still doesnt work last evening and this AM.

I end up using my Discover and I call JR few times already to see if I can help push it. They say give it a few hours.
