Hi oozijk,
Please confirm that your fix is OK @-65dBm and below
You may use inSSIDer (free) for getting signal strenght
EDIT: also, are you 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz ??

But if we're to buy another wifi card and open up our laptops then tangible before and after results from something like inSSIDer would be much appreciated. -
Installing the AC card did not work out for me! Still the same WiFi issues!

Hello everyone,
Could you advise me on configuring my Vaio Pro on the Sony site VAIO® Pro | Lightest Ultrabook
I'm always using my laptop at home and work and want to invest in something that will run multiple applications at the same time. I'm willing to spend a bit extra to get the computer I want. I've added Windows 8 Pro because I want to encrypt my entire hard drive with Windows BitLocker
Please could you advise on the following:
Intel® CoreTM i7-4500U 1.8 GHz
Windows 8 Pro
256 GB PCIe Flash SSD
8 GB 1600 MT/s DDR3L-SDRAM
Is this a good spec? Is it worth upgrading the Flash drive to a 512 GB PCIe Flash SSD? -
I did a Vaio up date and in the manual are is BIOS 1041 R7. When I click on it says must be installed before u/g to 8.1. I bought this machine a week ago with 8.1 installed. I checked my BIOS and it is 1021 R7. I've read something on this but need the group to let me know if I have to go back to 8 , update BIOS to 1041R7 and then reinstall 8.1.

Now back to the Vaio Pro issue. Sony is using faulty wireless N card. nothing to do with the 2 antennas. If you do decide to change to Wireless AC (which I strongly recommend) make sure the connectors don't touch. - someone pointed out this earlier when they upgraded. If that happens its likely to cause signal problems. It might of even happened if you dropped your computer and the two antenna wires that connect to the wifi card moved and now touch (I'm just assuming this one, don't have a panic attack and open your computer to check).
Now for the person who asked me if my fix was okay, the first TWO names on inSSIDer are me skynet and ooziMonsterKok :
Please confirm that your fix is OK @-65dBm and below, You may use inSSIDer (free) for getting signal strength
also, are you 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz ??
Someone asked me before about 2.4 GHz and here is my reply, please read too.
My FIX is a REAL fix. It works its okay, I have done before and after also did inSSIDer, that picture is 2.4 GHz but I like using 5 GHz because its almost as fast as using a Ethernet cable. I have a 105 mbit connection. I download Full 105mbit with my 5 GHz band, but with the 2.4 I only get a little over 50mbit.
Now for all the people who are having problems with their original wifi card or saying this new AC card doesn't work. The FIX does work and saying AC card didn't work is total crap (unless you got a faulty card).
If the new one doesn't work for you or nothing has changed there is a problem with your router. I know people say bla bla bla why waste money on a new router when my previous one worked fine with my other laptop. Well you want NORMAL working Vaio Pro 13 you need new AC card. To get AC card speeds you need AC router. And remember most of my tests were with AC OFF on my router, so don't bash me about "well you have AC router bla bla bla". So with normal N routers everything should be fine. Try messing with router settings, upgrading router firmware, etc. If not invest in the future AC routers since you'll have an AC wifi card. Also regardless of which wifi card you have, for windows 8.1 the current wifi driver is 16.6.0.8. So update from Intel directly.
7260NGW Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC
I have tested this with 7 different routers. 6 N routers and one AC. NO signal drops and Constant Signal. Guys it's an easy install. easy to open up , swap cards, boom your done. 15 min max for amateurs.
This inSSIDer imagine is from NOW 12-9-12 ESTI will also attach it to this post.
GUIDE TO ORIGINAL FIX
This computer is a great ultrabook. After you get all the drivers working with 8.1 its flawless. Only problem was the N wifi which can be fixed ONLY my changing it. Its not that bad. Sorry if I offended anyone and sorry for my grammar. If there is anything else that I can help you out with - specific questions i will. But I think if you look at ALL my posts all answers are there. Thanks
Oozi -
Hello: Do you have a link of where on line to buy this ac card and proper specs. Thanx
-
Oozi, I don't think you answered this question:
We're looking for a fix which solves problem in LOW signal strength, not HIGH. For now it seems that you didn't solve it, sorry. -
+1
Please confirm that your fix is OK @-65dBm and below -
Sorry calzone,
I misread. From what I understand you want me to confirm when my signal is under -65 dBm if my signal drops and/or still has good connection? I can do that test and put my router somewhere far away from normal distance. Just want to make sure thats what you wanted. let me know. Also, I will test only 2.4 ghz band if wanted?
Listen guys..I'm just trying to help you all out. Don't bash me by private messages etc. I'm not trying to offend anyone. If you are having wifi problems the -AC card will help. I had the same issue and changed my wifi card. I know how frustrating it is having signal bs. If the AC card does not work for you its more than likely a router problem, are barricaded in concrete, or ? Just remember this is the New AC card also being used in the macbook air.
EDITED:
Okay so just for everyone who wanted to know I took my three wifi antennas off, btw my router is an another room. I live in a highrise apartment so there is lots of interference etc.. on my sofa and haven't been disconnected. I am connected to my 2.4 ghz network and @-65dBm and below. My download speed slightly dropped from newsgroups. But everything is still fine even at -70 dBm
Here is a speed test of 2.4 Ghz band, 3 wifi antennas on my router are still off. Connection is over 6 hours. Never dropped, never put computer to sleep etc.. View attachment 105955
Here is speed test after I restarted computer and connected to my 5ghz network. 3 wifi antennas disconnected as before and router in other room. View attachment 105956
For reference, I have Comcast internet, 105/20. Please note vaio pro does not have lan port so I cant do real world lan test. Now if you still don't feel comfortable installing a new wifi card Sony support is offering a free Belkin N300 Micro Wireless N adapter. 7-10 Business days to deliver.

Oozi, thank you for that.
87 MBs is a physical connection value, that is good. The ultimate test would be real upload/download values measured by LAN_SpeedTest.exe free utility and then compared to other laptop in exact the same conditions. That would be WLAN test.
Or you can test up/down with speedtest.net - it will measure your internet speed, also good test. But the other "reference" laptop is mandatory to have something to compare to. -

I have seen many tests, many done myself and @-65dBm or –70dBm the SVP13 download dropped at least 4-5 times (best cases) to 10-20 times (worst cases) from max achievable value. In your test it’s „only” 2 times slower and that seems promising. I already returned my VAIO but if I had it – I would probably try the 7260AC.
BTW: 5GHz still gives max troughput without those 3 antennas, so the guys claiming that there is some internal 2,4GHz noise source inside SVP13 seem right. It’s just that your AC card is somehow more resistant to that noise.
On the other hand, some tried the same solution and it did not work for them (as we read on Sony Community). -

Anyone experiencing massive battery drain while the device is shut down (turned off) ? I lose about 10% PER DAY when not using the notebook at all. Intel Smart connect is turned off of course and I didn't notice it turning on either.
Whats happening here? Maybe because the battery isn't "calibrated" yet? -
I just received my Sony Vaio Pro, really nice piece of equipment
Here are some WiFi measurements, compared to an 8 years old Dell X1
I used inSSIDer and LAN_SpeedTest to perform this test
Intel N7260, driver rev 16.1.5.2
Range: 2.4GHz
All data are averaged (3 measurements), download/upload, in Mbps
dBm -25 (near router)
Sony: 10.4 / 13.6
Dell : 11.5 / 13.5
dBm -45 (5m from router)
Sony: 10.5 / 11.5
Dell : 11.6 / 13.3
dBm -70 (Cellar)
Sony: 4.0 / 4.0
Dell : 7.2 / 9.7
dBm -83 (Cellar)
Sony: N/A / N/A
Dell : 2.8 / 5.3
Conclusion:
Sony Pro is OK Up to -50dBm
Significant drop at dBm -75 albeit usable
No signal at dBm -83
Comments
Sony:
sometime, LAN_speedTest did show "not responding" in title bar
inSSIDer data was instable @-75dBm with "quantic" jumps from -60 to -70
Strange
Dell:
LAN_speedTest OK
inSSIDer stable readings with smooth, continuous variations

Not only is the signal keep fluctuating at beyond the -60 dbm, the maximum speed reported by inssider is impossible (156 Mbps). The standard maximum speed that should be reported is either 130 Mbps (Dell 2x2 WiFi, 20 MHz channel width, 80 ns GI, 64-QAM) or 144 Mbps (HP Broadcom 2x2 WiFi, 20 MHz channel, 40 ns GI, 64-QAM).
If weak signal keeps fluctuating then a signal interference due to antennas near the motherboard is the cause of this. Fluctuating signal leads to packet loss, ping spikes and significantly reduced throughput. -

Please read users manual. -

Also, when I go to the intel website and run the 'driver checker' program, it says 'This device is unknown or unsupported. Please contact the manufacturer for possible updates.' under every driver category. Has anyone else experienced this? -
Download the update manually from the intel website. Not "driver check".

I've read all 2533 posts so don't jump me. I have used Vaio Control Center and have set Display Brightness to OFF for autosensing the surroundings. I still get the screen turning brighter and darker in many small steps automatically. Is there somewhere else I should be looking to stop this.
I bought my machine a couple of weeks ago and had 8.1 installed at the store and paid for a setup but found on the Sony esupport for Canada that there are a number of drivers available but many say must be upgraded prior to 8.1. I really don't want to revert to 8.0 , update all drivers then reset 8.1. I did do BIOS udate to R1041R7 from R1021R7 after Win 8.1 as Sony chat it would be OK. -

Hi Vaio Pro owners,
I got mine 3 days ago. When I googled the initial problems that I was facing with my Vaio, this post came up. I have one question especially to the ones who bought theirs in the UK. The model that I purchased online was SVP1321C5E. The PC info also shows this to be the model . However, on the underside near the battery it says model: SVP132A1CM. I am not sure if this is some other model number or model number for the battery. So, my question is, should the model number on the bottom match the actual PCs model ? Should I return it SONY? I don't see anything else with the PC however.
Thanks -

Thanks for a great forum with lots of good guides and try-outs.
I have a question regarding Vaio Control Center for Windows 8.1
My issue is that I need to run ecnrypted SSD (3rd party encryption) where I have a C partition containing programs and a D partition containing data. I have succesfully done a clean install of Windows 8 Pro as I had an extra disk, after converting to legacy MBR from EFI (for the sake of encryption software).
When installing drivers and programs for Windows 8 there were many missing things like Hotkey (FN) control of brightness. However most other things seemed to work. Now that I've upgraded the 8.0 to 8.1, suddenly I have no more control over Fan settings either. So I'm missing quite a few gadgets. ON top of this, Windows update claims that Sony Firmware Extension Parser fails installing, as does SATA Driver Intel and CPP driver (Intel). All thos have been installed via the Sony Support files.
Does anyone here have Windows 8.1 clean install and have things working properly? How does it look with standard setup and Windows 8.1 for you who have not walked into the shadow of death and deleted everything on your SSD? Do you have control over fan and hotkeys?
Many thanks! -
hi guys, I have a problem with my Vaio Pro where it does not want to go into sleep after I left the computer idle(with lid open) for the time interval that I have set in the Power Option settings. I set it to 5mins. However, my laptop does not sleep after 5mins of inactivity. Does anyone know a solution for this problem? Even the latest BIOS version R1043V7 does not solve this problem.

Hey guys, got several questions for you all,
1.) Is Vaio Pro 13 experiencing the display color problem like on Yoga and Samsung attiv 9 plus when you unplug, the color gamut and the yellow becomes dull or changes?????
2.) What is the default wireless card brand/model that comes with the Vaio Pro?
3.) Was the wireless disconnecting/low signal ever fixed?
4.) What's the story on the loud fan noise? Is it really that bad especially when idle or just watching movies or web browsing?
5.) What's the normal battery life from 100% to 5% when just web browsing and playing mp3 on the background w/o the sheet, just normal battery?
Thanks -
Hey guys, got several questions for you all,

No.
2.) What is the default wireless card brand/model that comes with the Vaio Pro?
Intel N7260
3.) Was the wireless disconnecting/low signal ever fixed?
Claims of a recent hardware fix, nothing confirmed (if you ask me, I have my doubts)
4.) What's the story on the loud fan noise? Is it really that bad especially when idle or just watching movies or web browsing?
Don't have any issues with it. On the rare occasions I think the fan is making unjustified amounts of noise I just close the lid to put it to sleep and then open too wake again.
5.) What's the normal battery life from 100% to 5% when just web browsing and playing mp3 on the background w/o the sheet, just normal battery?
Couldn't tell you, I pretty much always have the sheet on. Today I got ~12 hours from it with basic 10 tab web browsing (though at times up to 20) and streaming from Play Music.
Thanks[/QUOTE] -
Guys, new BIOS is released. R1043V7
Sony eSupport - SVP132190S - Drivers & Softwarehamud likes this. -
1) no colors problems at all
2) -
3) not yet for me. Sometime it works WOW ... and sometime it make me crazy . Depends on the distance to the router .
4) i never had this problem. I put (as I did with my old Vaio Z2) to SILENT and fan can be hear when heavy tasks.. .for movies or office task no noise
5) Is almost a full day of office tasks . From 9AM until 4PM I get from 100 to 10% . I keep the second battery in the backpack but I had to put it in only twice since I got this new beauty.
The only missing thing for me comparing to Z1 / Z2 is the 3G modem . I use the personal hotspot from the iphone but I hate that I kill battery for the phone now :| -

and why does it keep saying you have to install it before 8.1? The last bios update said that too.
