beware purchasing windows 7 non-touch vaio pro 13's (svp1321ggxbi and hgxbi
there are several huge gaps in the non-touch windows 7 vaio pro driver sets:
-the sound is horrendous in terms of both quality and quantity. there is no configurability within windows sound options nor is the realtek utility accessible (either in the startmenu or from its own folder). no sound options in the vcc either
- the touchpad jumpiness issue plagues the non-touchpad vaio pro. others have reported issues with 8, i can confirm them on 7. the only way around is to find drivers from other machines that work (i recommend 17.0.6.2 as a workaround.
sony has thus far been reticent about acknowledging these issues. i have spent many hours with tier 2 and i have yet to get a straigth answer. if it wasnt for equalizer apo, and non-vaio pro synaptics drivers, windows 7 would be unusable...

Hey everyone
Longtime lurker here, first time poster. Really sorry if this question's been asked in the past, but I can't search through 286 pages of this thread, haha.
Does anyone else experience a problem with their wireless adapter when waking the Vaio Pro 13 from sleep? It seems that every 2nd time I open my laptop from sleep in class, the wireless adapter is shut off and I can't connect to any wireless networks. Instead of showing the "wireless bars" and being connected, I get a symbol with an X on it, and i cannot search for any networks. I then have to restart my laptop to reconnect. Note, this only happens on the 2nd time waking the laptop from sleep; i can close it once and open it a day later and it connects no problem.
Just figured i'd check with you guys to see if anyone else has seen this before.
Thanks in advance! -

I was using my SVP13 today working on two Word documents, and the right-click issue went crazy. I also noticed that sometimes the left click works by himself. Considering that the Vaio dept will be closed by the end of March, this would be my first and finally purchase of the Vaio Pro 13. Do you have some comparisons betweeen the Black version and the Carbon Black version? Which finish is the best and then which should I choose? Does the expensive option (touch display + carbon black finish) worth the cost?
Thank you! -
non-touchscreen ggxbi or hgxbi are better hardware for money but you will have to run win 8 on them: win 7 driver set is buggy, down-featured (no real-audio, and other vcc image and features) and sound is atrocious.... i am on 8 now with classicshell and aeroglass 8.1 and feeling like i have win 7 with the benefit of the features and functionality that sony only lavished on 8 and 8.1 ....

Does anyone elses trackpad click from underneath the laptop?
I bought an ex-demo refurbished SVP13, and so far it has been very good, but if I have the laptop on my lap, (what it's designed for) the trackpad will not work as my knee is pressing it from underneath.
And so far, when playing a few FPS games on low settings, if I move the character (pressing the W key) and try to rotate the camera, the trackpad doesn't register anything and takes a few seconds to recognize any input.
Are these common problems, or should I take it to a sony service centre?
P.S, I live in australia, so i'm unsure if those service centres actually exist here -

Anybody having problems with the WiFi at long distances might want to try a couple of drivers that have surfaced on Station Drivers in the past week:
16.10.0.5 - Station-Drivers - Intel Proset/Wireless Wifi Software Version 16.10.0.5
16.8.0.6/7 - Station-Drivers - Intel Proset/Wireless Wifi Software Version 16.8.0.6 -
my vaio pro support page is here: Sony eSupport - SVP13213CYB - Support
i see multiple updates under win 8.1 for care and control center.
do i need all of the listed updates or simply the uppermost one? how do i tell which is the most up to date when they are often released on the same date?
thanks. vaio update isnt a solution for me. -

Hi guys,
I'm an owner of the Pro 13 since half a year. A few days ago I tried to clean the keyboard, so I tried to remove all the buttons from it. However, accidently, I broke the metal arms holding the ESC and CTRL buttons... These are quite important so I'm pissed like hell, previously I owned a VAIO SZ and removed the buttons many times, however I never broke one!
Any idea how much a new Pro keyobard will cost? The guys at SONY told be that a repair of single buttons is out of question. -

Vaio Pro 13
Non-touch screen
Intel® CoreTM i7-4650U, 1.70GHz avec 4 Mo L3 Cache
Intel® HD Graphics 5000
LAN(a/b/g/n/ ac)
256 Go SSD - PCIe
8 Go 1600 MT/s DDR3L-SDRAM
No problems with WiFi - no dropping or weakening of the signal - works just fine.
No problems with touchpad and Symantec software (which you have to "fine tune" for your needs).
There are three CPU and Fan operation modes in Vaio Control Center: performance, standard and silence, so no noise whatsoever in "silence" mode. Games like Simcity, or multiple opened tabs in Chrome work just fine in a silence mode. Performance mode is intended for heavy load such as video editing.
There is a nice "surprise" as well: Vaio Gesture Control enables you to wave your hand and move pages forwards & backwards, pause, or adjust the volume.
Tip: Download Stardock Start8 to get the classic looking Start menu.
All in all - this configuration of Vaio Pro 13 works like a charm! -
Please forgive me if this has already been covered, but my Vaio Pro 13 has suddenly started turning itself off at night, when I have it set to sleep.
It didn't happen previously, so I'm wondering whether an update has caused a conflict of some kind? Many thanks, in advance, for your help! -

Ok, I finally decided to go with the carbon black version (= glossy touchscreen display)
Can someone tell me how does the student promotion works? In particularly I need to know:
1) If it takes longer for the order to proceed and ship
2) If Sony has any right in taking back the laptop, especially in case I decide to not attend that university anymore (the one I inserted on the site)
Thanks -
Guys,
I own an SVP13, and I can't really stand the noise.
It's not loud, but the high-frequency pitch it produces is extremely annoying. it reminds me of a mosquito - it's not loud, but it drives you crazy.
8 months after the release, has ANYONE managed to get it somewhat less noisy?
How about clean win7 install, does it help?
Anything?
I'm really going nuts. It's silent mode, energy save, and I even limited the CPU to 40% max power to prevent it from doing anything stressful, but the fan still goes on - on most sites and esp. flash sites like Youtube - and gets really annoying... -

Few things I wanted to share regarding build quality, difference between matte and shiny carbon version and touchpad phantom clicks.
1) I bought non-touch version running i5 with 4400 GPU which comes with matte body and I have to say that it looks very nice and for me even nicer than that shiny version which you get with touch screen version. It's like comparing shiny metallic car paint to beautiful matte version, there's just something about that matte finish that makes it look very exquisite IMO. True, it stains and I made a mark with my watch strap (metal) but probably shiny version is similar in this regard.
2) The only complaint I can have regarding build quality is the power button, It's just too hard to press and the whole device bends but that's the price for it's weight - it bends. Apart from that A++ for build quality.
3) Phantom touches - after 3 months I have to say that it's 100% driver related. First time it happened I thought that it was happening because I plugged the power cord, but it wasn't it. I lowered the sensitivity and right now it happens very sporadically and it doesn't influence my workflow in any way. Shame that we have to wait for Sony to update their drivers...
4) Regarding drivers. From the start I use official drivers that are released by Sony, it means that most of the time I'm stuck with old drivers due to the time it takes for them taking their time releasing them but yesterday I checked support page for 2014 models of SVP and they are getting current drivers and thanks to that I was able to upgrade my graphics driver to more current one and I'll do the same thing when they release new touchpad drivers and all other interesting things. Of course, BIOS updates are out of questions but it's nice to see that we'll be able to get newer drivers without having to do fresh installation without Sony experience.
Hope someone found my long post interesting -
Wojciech, please link us to the new 2014 vaio pros that have the new updates, if no link then give us the model number!
tnx -

I have received yesterday the new model in France with AC wifi.
I got the i5, 8gb, 256ssd, b/g/n/ac card.
Wifi I havent tested much, but i had no problem for now, being close to the router I get 40-50mbit dl in speedtest, which is more or less the same as what I get on my htc one (phone is a wee bit slower).
However the FAN, my god the FAN. Once temperature goes above 50C, it starts kicking in and is pretty annoying in my opinion. If you use silence mode, or better "battery saving"", the fan is bearable though it spins when it s not really needed. You do lose some performance though. I tested it a bit and you lose ~20% perf in silence mode, and in battery saving mode it s like 80% perf drop (i can still watch movies, and the computer is fast enough for light tasks due to the ssd).
The matte non-touch screen is great with very low glare.
All in all the machine would be perfect, if not for the noise. It s so irritating I am wondering whether I should send it back and get an MBA or UX302. -
