I believe the business model CW's have a finger print reader. The other non-business models of late, don't have any of those security features.

Except on that website it says available for pre-order. Not that they have them available to be shipped yet.

So far...the only reason that holded me from getting the first batch of CW's was that they were gone...Im talking about the ones with GT230M...now waiting forever to see if they are going to get the GT330M and the 1600x900 screen...fingers crossed.

    i 2nd that :)

wierd how sony is confused about its own products

umm a request if possible i dont live in the US but will be getting my CW from the US so i cant call sony from here, but can someone ask and confirm what WIFI card they are running in the new refresh as its not listed on the site anywhere or any site, please let it be upgraded, pleaseeeeeee

to answer your question the config you chose comes with the G310 256MB GPU, and 1366x768 resolution. the reason there is a big price difference is that you must of bought it when Sony still had a good load of discounts going around.
i hope that answers your questions. feel free to ask about anything else that you are confused about :)

    Hey Yall!
Just got the CW with i3core from best buy.
It comes with W7 HP. Is there a way to reinstall the OS with no bloatware?
I have tried to recover a few times and all options lead me back to the same installation with all the bundled software. I cant see the Windows + drivers options that is listed earlier in this forum.
Any clue wut are the required progams for using this model. Sorry but I jumped from XP to 7 and bypassed Vista, just to be greeted by another stupid OS.
Anyone running Ubuntu on this machine?

    WOOT!!!
Finally someone put up for sale a cw model that had all the specs I(and my wife) wanted.

I picked up one from best buy with the 330m 512 card and an i520 processor.
    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Sony+-+VAIO+Laptop+with+Intel%26%23174%3B+Core%26%23153%3B+i5+Processor+-+Icy+White/9723879.p?skuId=9723879&id=1218159867219
I would like to have gotten blue ray but my wife wanted the white model really bad and having to have blue ray wasnt worth arguing for me so I settled for the white one.

Dissapointingly Sony's own site still dosnt offer the 330m option so I couldnt use my discount to configure one there.

Cant wait to get this puppy in we were at Best Buy last night looking at the core i3 version and we like the sony pretty well.

I did notice toshiba has new models on their site you can configure but trying to match the Sony config we picked up ended up in a 1200 laptop wich is about 300 more than the Sony.

Awesome, tell us how you like it when you get it. Also if I may ask, could you please return and post what type of wifi card is inside your laptop when you get it? Thanks.

I'd go for that BB model myself if it wasn't for the tax.

No problemo will do once it comes in.

I feel ya on the tax I reall hate paying it too but my wife has been ridin me hard to get a laptop now cause she starts school next week.

I usually order from newegg to avoid tax and for a short period Friday they had some new sony cw models witha 330m on their site but for some reason they were yanked off real quick cause as soon as I added to my cart and tried to check out I got a message telling me that product was no longer available. I would have saved the tax but in all fairness neweggs models were configured the same as best buy but newegg was charging $100 more.

I'm just about to head to Best Buy right now.

They have the Intel Core i3 - 2.13 in stock -- $830 with California tax as I have calculated.

I don't mind the 2.13 although I am enticed to buy online the 2.26 i3. Oh well. I initially wanted a p7450 anyway.

    Pretty excited.

Looking forward to begin optimizing it and cleaning all the stupid bloatware tonight lols.

Do any of you have the large capacity battery offered on sonystyle? Is it bigger(physically) than the standard one? and is it worth the extra $100.00?

Don't know if anyone is interested but I just ordered this system with these specs:

    -Intel® Core™ i5-540M processor (2.53GHz) with Turbo Boost up to 3.06GHz
    -8GB (4GBx2) DDR3-SDRAM-1066
    -NVIDIA® GeForce® 310M GPU with 256MB DDRD3 dedicated VRAM
    -Blu-ray Disc™ player/burner
    -Crystal Rain White {VAIO Signature Collection}
    -Large Capacity Battery (VGP-BPL13)
    -Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium 64-bit
    -500GB Hard Disk Drive (5400rpm)

I was going to order on Saturday but waited because of the price, then found out at midnight that parts were out of stock. (Apparently this is due to them updating the website.) When I woke up this morning and refreshed, they were ready to go with a $150 discount. This made my day.

Seems the new sale has the upgraded I5 processor for $66.50 more (regularly $150 more) than the low-end I3. Upgrade for a 500 GB HD or even the 320 GB at 7200 RPM are marked FREE. Upgrading to 8 GB RAM was $256.50 more (regularly $320 more.) Here's the kicker: Regularly, the price came to $1,699 on Saturday. The new price for the week with this config and extended battery was $1,459 (not including tax). I was going to get it with a student discount that brought it down 5% to $1,386.99, but had some questions so I called SonyStyle's rep. She was very helpful and then offered me 10% off. I asked why and she said it was because I was courteous with her and she wanted to help. Apparently they have special coupon codes they are allowed to give or it's an employee discount code or something. So I told her for that price, I'll take it all upgraded to the max. The final cost before tax came to $1,314.90.

I just hope I'm happy with it when it comes in like most of you are I read on here. Thought the information might help!

Does anyone know the release date for the refreshed CW's in the UK. It is currently possible to configure the CW on the sonystyle.co.uk website with core-i5 and Nvid 330, (so delivery time of approximately 1 month,) but there are no pre-made model's and the older generation models which are listed vis. C2D 2.13 all read none in stock... (suggesting movement behind the scenes?!) F class is only available for pre-order... JArring!!

To answer question of the cw's wireless card I found by doing a product search on the esupport section of sony shows that the wirelses card is: Marvell Atheros AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter

That sucks because I prefer intel. Oh well too late now I already ordered mine. :(

This is not true. Sony seems to not know what it's selling in its own laptops. When I bought my CW, the salesperson told me I would be getting an Atheros card but I received an Intel 5100 as did everyone else who ordered the CTO model from sonystyle.com. If you bought the original CW from Best Buy, however, then you did receive an Atheros card.

Well maybe it will be intel but I doubt it. Now NewEgg is selling the exact same model as I bought from bestbuy (model numbers match exactly) and NewEgg has the wireless card listed as Atheros as well. The way I found out through sony was taking the model number and going to the support section to download drivers for it. All the original drivers are there and the only driver availalbe for download on the wireless card is an Atheros driver.

Here is the link for newegg http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834127031
Shame on newegg too. The exact same model as BestBuy but newegg is charging $150 more. This is the 3rd product in the last month Ive seen NewEgg charge significantly more than other vendors. Starting to loose faith in NewEgg and I really liked them too.

I don't personally own a CW, but from what I've seen at Best Buy, it does not have the quick "Web" access button any longer.

For any one who is interested...I ordered mines on 11Jan10 and was offered free express shipping and was shipped on 15Jan10 and expected to be received on 19Jan10. After I ordered the custom CTO I realized price went down by $100. Called Sony support to get a return authorization but to my surprise given $106.00 (Price difference + tax) after they asked the reason why I am planning on returning... .... Will keep you updated on how much I like it...

Hello, My computer (fz490) crashed a couple days ago and I am looking for a replacement. I am almost sure I would like to purchase the sony vaio CW, however Im looking for some advice on what model I should buy.
I spoke with a rep at the sony store yesterday and he said they would be getting more CW laptops this week but Im not sure if I should hold off and order a customized model online. I am not tech savvy at ALL and have a couple questions I need answered - would appreciate any help/advice.

First, I don't fully understand the processor jargon. My previous notebook had a Intel Core 2 Duo T9500 / 2.6 GHz processor and would like my new comp to be faster than that. Is the CW processor sold in the store, Intel® Core™ i3-330M (2.10GHz), faster than my old laptop? If it isn't I would wait and order it online with the Intel Core i5-540M processor (2.53GHz).

Also, the clerk at the sony store mentioned CW doesn't have NVIDIA, but I just checked online and read otherwise....so want to confirm it does?

Im going back to school tomorrow and really need a replacement this week but would hold off if you think I should get faster processor

(Note: I will possibly be using this notebook for film editing with CS4 but its primary use will be for writing, internet, etc.)

Which Best Buy are you all going at? Every time I go, they didn't have the i5 versions, just the i3 and i7. Looking online at Best Buy's website, it only says the i5s are online only.

Rodimus, I looked at the one from Best Buy but have read negative reviews regarding their notebooks - what are your thoughts? It certainly is cheaper though..
