hey, many here have got their high res screens from one of the many online sites in the US. Jst check with them and maybe you find one for yourself soon enough.

That really sucks. This is such a great machine and at very competitive price here in India. Although it does not match to the American pricing but still totally worth its money. Get on ebay maybe and you may find somthing or to a local market where there might still be a machine in stock.
Totally hope you find one for yourself soon enough. -
Just to let everyone know, Sony service is pretty good. My new CW died 3 days ago. Sony determined it was the motherboard and sent someone within 3 days to replace it. In my opinion, 3 days is pretty darn good, considering I had an Asus with a lot of problems that I had to send in twice and each time it was gone for two weeks - and they didn't even fix the problem. I also had a SZ on which the fingerprint reader quit working and Sony sent someone within a week to fix that. Pretty good turnaround in my opinion. That is better than Apple as well, which usually takes a week. The key is in-home service. The Sony warranty is only for one year, but most problems show up in the first year anyway. Might be worthwhile to extend it.

I have bought a CW2S1E 2day ago, but I have exactly the same problem above. The palm rest on the right side gets a litte hot and is unconfortable to write on the keyboard. (note: the HD is on the left site and is completely cold, the PC is realy cool except this part)
There are no news about that? -
hi i have a vpccw22fx and i have a newb question: how do you enable 2 finger scrolling on the touchpad? i'm new to the touchpad (coming from the finger-joystick on the t60) and i couldn't figure it out by playing with the synaptics software. thanks guys.
-
Same here I got my new CW26FG on two days back, before that i was roaming like mad for this laptop everywhere in Pune, but luckily i got it in a stock with one dealer. I had called sony several times for this laptop but they dont want to commit anything on this, so sad...
-
Please Help
I got my CW26FG two days back.
When I click on archsoft webcam companion it throws an error asking for "Buy Now" option and says your trial period is over. if i click buy now nothing happens
I am unable to use webcam due to this. -
Open the Vaio Care program and reinstall Webcam companion.
-
Get youself to re-install the app from anywhere, it should work just fine..... -
the vaio cw is totally unavailable in india now, i checked nearly ten stores till now, got the sony centre to check the bangalore warehouse and even called sony india to ask if somehow i can get one piece but its too late now, all units have been sold and they have discontinued this model and the sony india people are asking me to buy EB series which i dont like.
-
I have a CW2Z1E and was playing Mass Effect 2 for 6 hours straight at work the other day (nightshift!) and it didn't even warm up at all which suprised me.
-
it doesn't show web companion in the list of reinstall program or driver
what should i do? -
Thanx for the reply
can you tell which application i need to reinstall and from where i will get it? -
go to sony's website, support, software & drivers, find your model, and it will be under camera, webcam companion.
-
Yah i have checked that also, drivers are not available not on Sony's asia/india website for camera,I tried to download it from US site but its not supported
-
try downloading the driver off the cw clean install thread
-
can you pls tell me the steps of how to do that?
-
Finally broke the 7k mark
Running on a i3 machine, with default Vaio Windows 7.
-
Nice! Do you mind letting us know what you've done to break the 7k barrier? I'm trying to do withis on my cw26; I know it's possiblt but I'n still at around 6.5k GPU overclocked ><
-
You should break it with your machine, since urs have a i5 if im not wrong.
Mine is the european model, CW21E.
I removed moest of the bloatware, just leaving Media Gallery, and the stuff for the buttons. I tried also the newest drivers from Nvidia, with the modified inf file so tehy install, but those drivers were acutally worse then the ones the system came with. Then i downloaded the ones that Sony came up with on the 12 of March on their website, and with those and the settings I have, i finally broke the 7k mark. Still think there is more to squeeze, specially the memory, gonna try it today. -
Those are my scores. What display resolution did you use? To be only 7k it must be high res, i suppose. I also have i3.
Didn't know Sony released new drivers. Downloading them now
-
You're really pushing that thing far. Let us know how it all turns out. By the way I grabbed the drivers that you mentioned for my cw27fx and they work pretty well. Lower 3dmark06 scores than the stock ones though.
-
Mine was on 1280x720 , but on my external Samsung P2250, connected via the HMDI. Your scores are really damn high for a i3. Gonna try 1090 memrory settings today and see what I get, but i doubt that will make me hit 8k.
-
I actually got lower ones with the stock ones, and even lower when I used the newest ones from the Nvidia site. Im gonna play around with some drivers today.
-
Let me know how it works out. I had 7.5k with stock drivers and now 7.3k with the new drivers. But I'm willing to sacrifice a lil performance for hdmi stability.
-
Hey, this isn't a generic problem that you are facing. Anyways, assuming that you haven't installed much stuff on your system, just try restoring the entire C: drive using Vaio recovery. Its very simple just takes a few clicks.
Even then if the problem isn't solved just call the sony support center and they should be able to help you out.
You could try the other way round too, as in call up the sony support and then try restoring the C: drive if they aren't able to help you. Will post if I find something else for you.
Cheers. -
And here is the 8k mark screen
, and I still think there is more to squeeze
-
People breaking 7-8k marks with this config is so cool.....havnt broken it myslf but am sure that i m gona try and achieve it too............jst tell me for sure which drivers are better as many of us here are wondering about the same!
Also the resolutions at which you determined these scores........... -
WOW!!!!...........this is too cool...........i like
Cheers to all the CW owners....
-
Im using the standard test resolution on 3dmark06 which is 1280x1024.
The drivers I used to in the latest test, are the ones Sony released on their site a couple a days ago. Im gonna try the newest ones from Nvidia again tonight, and see if i get the same odd result that they are actually worse. -
I want to preface this, don't mean to be a jerk but I'm really confused here.
From what I can tell, the only thing that we can squeeze is the GPU overclock and eliminating some of the system overhead in terms of background apps.
By changing from the default resolution of 3dm06 as you are benching it fuddles everything up; obviously the lower resolutions will increase your score. So is there some reason why you guys are changing your default 3dm06 resolution? -
Im not changing the default resolution which 3Dmark uses. If you start it, the standard test resolution is 1280x1024. This is also the standard test resoluton that for example Notebookcheck are using in their GPU tests.
Remember, Im running the stock VAIO WIndows 7 install, with around 80 services running. Only thing i uninstalled was the crap test versions. Doing a clean install , with nothing from Sony installed, and using the newest Nvidia drivers, I guess you can hit the 8.5k mark. And that is not bad at all for this GPU, since it also stays damn cool, played Mass Effect 2 for 2 hours straight with the OC i showed in my 8k test, and it never got hotter then 58c.
Of course running tests on much higher resolution will get the scores down, but as I mentioned before, the standard test resolution is 1280x1040, and thats the one that should be used when comparing results with other GPUS, for example on Notebookcheck.
And I have to say that I was a bit in doubt when I bought my CW, seeing that the E-series are cheaper, and with on paper a better graphics card, the HD5650. I would like to see results on what people are getting on their E-series with the 5650 overclocked. -
Here is also a link to the newest Nvidia drivers from Sony. They fix the following things :
Improvement of HDMI Compatibility.
PMB VAIO Edition and Media Gallery may stop responding under certain circumstances
http://support.vaio.sony.eu/computi...0220046.exe&m=VPCCW2S1E_L&ip=EP0000220046.htm -
The 5650 is showing about 15% higher at stock clocks.
-
I hit 8k on my external Samsung 2250P monitor, connected via HDMI, which uses 1600x900 resolution. Still, when benchmarking with 3dmark06, u should use the standard test resolution. And of course, teh HD5650 should be a better card, but it aint that much better then the 330M then what some people say.
-
my riva tuner is blocked by my nvidea driver forceware 18783. what should i do to unlock it? i cant click customize because there is a tab showing forceware detected
-
I suggest you use EVE Precision to overclock. In my opinion, much better then Riva.
http://www.evga.com/PRecision/ -
Can the CW play Batman: AA in high detail? or with physx enabled?
-
Thanks for the info, what did you mean by uninstalling the "test versions"?
Are you using any special driver cleaning apps for the NV drivers?
I need some time to get around to this, I think I'm a benchmark junkie and a wannabe gamer. -
Actually, I read that evga precision is the same thing as riva tuner with an evga frontend. I read that its kept up by the same guy that does riva tuner. Though that could all be blasphemous poppycock.
-
I think this was covered somewhere in this thread too but, has anyone had much difference in applying new TIM? Any pics of the process?
-
My scores were with latest intel chipset, and with original Sony graphics.
I have an "issue" now... Even with very low OC, i'm getting 70+ degrees @ CPU and 60+ @ GPU, while playing any game.
I'm thinking to open my laptop and apply some thermal compound, to see if it lowers again...I know it's not too high, but it is almost 10 degrees higher than a week ago, at least for me... (i've read somewhere Sony Z is getting 80+ @ GPU, so this shouldn't be a real issue)
I'm benching at 1366x768 because it is my maximum resolution. Also benching at 1280x720 because it's a nice resolution to play games with. Can't try 1280x1024 because i have no display to connect right now.
Anyone is getting these temps?
crinny67: nice scores
-
Wow this is frustrating, I cannot download any drivers from Sony's site. No matter what I do it keeps telling me there are no unlocked drivers for my model laptop even though I chose the LOCKED drives. -- boo
-
Little video I made of the CW from unboxing to playing games like crysis to watching blu rays on a 1080p tv. Nothing special.

OK, I lurked for a while but I will officially join and come clean. I bought a VPCCW23FX Blue, i3, Intel 310 graphics and BR reader. I am pretty darn happy with it. I did do a complete reload of Win 7. This system replaces a desktop for my wife and I and we are not planning on loading any graphics intensive games on it. It will mostly be used for surfing, light games, spreadsheets, word processing, playing Blu Rays on our TV, etc. For this it is very well equipped. It does not get hot like my Lenovo T61 from work, and my daughter's HP pavillion, or my son's mac. I do wish the battery life was better, but I am still adjusting some settings-- I think I can improve it from the factory profile if it tweak it. Overall this is a very nice system for a factory config. If the graphics card was more capable it would be killer-- for me that is not important.

dont know if that link will work but its a review of the y460 with i5 and 5650 and he only got 6409 3dmark06 w/ 1280x768 resolution at normal clocks i beleive -
Thanks anku, I resolved my prblm with complete system recovery,
Also compressed my c: drv to 80GB, just wanted to know if there are any issues if i keep 80GB for c: drv? -
Wellp, looks like I can't even do the 1280x1024 res., not an option for the 16x9 CW
It instead defaults to 1280x800. Will try on an external tomorrow.
-
Its great that you got the problem solved.
There arent any issues with you keeping the C: drive with 80 GB, but how many apps or softwares or games are you gonna put in there?
keep 80 GB if you want to install loads of applications and games, otherwise keep it at around 50GB and use the space for data storage. Whatever you do, never store important data on that drive as you may need to format it if something comes up (GOD FORBID!!)But don't think much about that.......
Keep the size to whatever you want to and enjoy the machine........Cheers
-
With this GPU, you can play Batman:AA quiet smoothly. Seeing the performance with OCed GPU, it should be a smooth rendering. Don't worry mate, this machine has got the juice, just throw whatever work you want at it.
