Hey, i did nearly install hackintosh......only thing dat gets in d way is dat the disk managment doesnt allow more than 3 primary partitions..
1. Windows 7
2. recovery
3.Some 100 MB system / bootup aprtiton
So i cant create a new active 1......d other things r relatively simple........jst d normal steps....got ubuntu loaded cos its from within windows 7.
Got it installed too but cudnt boot into hackintosh cos of the primary partition issue........tried putting recovery offline too but dats not allowd too by disk management......
Is der anyway to create a new active partition?or other steps to follow please post
Synaptics scribe drivers are nearly at par with the apple experience in terms of touchpad enhancemnts.......try dat out guys its cool.........
Cheers -
Hey anku which osx distro did u use?
-
So I love my VPCCW26FX/w I got from best buy of all places but it has some quirks.
When I connect to a projector/external LCD it shows a disorted streak of color that kind of looks like a twisted spectrometer.
Also...is there anyway to rotate the LCD image? EEerotate manages to only rotate the touchpad but not the image, and the option is disabled in windows resolution screens. I have the i5 model with 1600x900 and 330m and I miss having a laptop that can be held like a book to flip through comics/news. -
To you guys who mentioned Ubuntu:
What distro? 9.10 has wireless issues on my laptop (The speed is VERY inconsistent) and 10.04 beta 2 refuses to boot up as the drivers dont support the 330m. -
In xp it is: CTRL + ALT + Arrow Key(direction you want display to face).
-
In windows seven it was supposed to be vendor specific or something. (although I did try that)
It seems to be locked out. Anyone get it working? -
Two finger swipe (left and right) is enabled, but NOT scroll...you can't move two fingers up and down and scroll up and down the page...Yes pinch zoom and rotate work as well, but I would love to have two finger SCROLL rather than doing the circular scrolling.
-
I am scrolling up and down the page right now with swipes, exactly like my old macbook. It works fine.
-
Ok I guess I'll try updating the drivers again, it didn't give me the option a couple of days ago. That's great news that it works! Now I just have to get out of work...
-
Same here man, been scrolling with 2 fingers like MacBook since the day I got my cw27
-
I don't have your notebook, but for some drivers, you need to enable it from the mouse settings in control panel.
select device settings, then click settings it should be listed somewhere under scrolling -
I'm using 9.10 as well, haven't tried 10.04 yet, but I have the same wireless issues. Do you get some kind of error message for 10.04 or a black screen?
-
Straight up Black screen, I literally can't do a think with 10.04. I think its the third party nvidia drivers.
The wireless issue is crushing for me. -
ubuntu? seriously?
-
does anyone know if the core i3 CWs can be upgraded to i5 or i7?
-
Yes, the one at the bottom of my notebook. Sorry what I mean was my Product Key, not S/N. Because I know it's original for Windows 7 Home Premium, I'm just wondering if I could use it too on Windows 7 Ultimate? x)
-
I recently bought a core i5 cw26 model, the CPU fan is always on but really quiet, is that normal for these models? even when it's idle and cool the fan is running slowly.
-
I had this exact issue when I first got the laptop and it was really irritating. I no longer experience it now. I believe the issue is with the size of your finger touching it. If you are using the tip of your finger it seems to have trouble. I noticed that if I flattened and used the face of the finger instead of the tip it recognized it must better. I must have adapted because I no longer have any trouble scrolling through websites
-
Yes, thats normal. It never shuts off fully.
-
About the screen, it indeed is the nvidia drivers that cause the problem. You can try booting from a live cd and do what is described in a thread on the ubuntu forums. Unfortunately I can't post the link here as it seems one may only post links if you have a minimum of 15 posts. Anyway the thread has the title "Need Lots of Graphic Help Sony Vaio CW".
-
Hmm that is the first time I heard that. But you need a separate key for Ultimate as otherwise, how would you pay into the coffers of Microsoft?
-
Hey guys - recently upgraded from a Dell Inspiron 1420 to a Sony CW26FX/W from BB. (Haven't actually received it, but it's enroute.)
Couple of questions:
Anyone know how it handles native .mov video files from a Canon DSLR? I have a Win 7 Quad core desktop that plays them quite well in WMP11, but the old Dell laptop didn't have a chance with them.
Also - any idea if this Blu-Ray writer would work with the Sony?

Thanks! -
Any word on that CPU upgrade that was taking place a few pages back???? I am very interested to see the battery life changes and performance figures.

Hello,
I ave a Sony CW with Core i5 540M and 6GB of RAM. I have a 120GB SSD installed and am using Windows Home Premium. My Wifi card is constantly dropping signal, and I am rather annoyed by this as I play games online and I lose connection all the time, making the game less fun.
What can I do? Sony support was no help. I read here that its not easy to switch the card. -

Try placing your laptop close to your wireless network (maybe 2 meters away) and see if the signal still drops. -
Have you checked it at other places like the library or school? It could either be your wireless card or your router itself.
I was loosing connection at school a lot but then it used to work fine at home and when I took it to support, it was working fine there as well. It turned out to be a network problem where the number of requests of IP addresses was exceeding the supply of connections so the network would disconnect and connect with other computers. -
It is very easy, you must have misread.
Start by changing drivers before you call it a hardware issue. -
Hey, i used i Deneb........

Hi guys, I would like an update on your OC'ed GT 330M because I want to OC soon. Thanks!
-
Hi
My wife's computer stays connected to the router during the times mine loses connection. I get dropped at school, in hotels, at home. I tried Sony Support, and they told me to turn off the setting allowing the computer to power save by turning off the wifi card. That did not help.
The computer doesn't get very hot, and it is only a month old.
I read that the wifi card did not have a panel to remove it. Perhaps that was a different model.
I ordered a 5300 Intel card incase it is easy to change to see if that helps. It was only $25 which is a lot less then the $1400 paid for the custom laptop. -
Where did you order the 5300 card from? I am interested in doing this as well...make sure you get the mini (half size) one, from what I understand the full size don't fit.
-
I got this one: amazon.com /gp/product/B001EHBUSE/ref=oss_product
It says Mini PCI. If it is wrong I can return it. And I guess it was $35. not $25. My mistake. -
There are mini and also mini half-size, so be sure to check when you get it.
edit: Also let me know how you install it
-
So its true then that replacing the card is not easy? I emailed seller to verify the card type.
-
there is no opening to just pop it out, you have to take off the entire bottom, as far as I know...
-

Hi Mrnelson, Sure you on that?
Which adapter is visible from the pic below, Bluetooth or Wireless adapter?
-
That looks like the wireless to me. Im pretty sure Bluetooth has 3 antennae connectors.
-
You still have to take off the entire bottom...that's my point. On my laptop, there is something holding the bottom cover down, by the RAM. I tried to take off the bottom before, after taking out 20-something screws and bending some plastic, I finally gave up. What I meant before was there is no easy way (like popping off the two sections to take out the RAM and to change out the hard drive) to take out the wifi card and swap it out...
-

Open the RAM cover and there you find the last 1 screw.
I had mine opened to replace the TC a couple of days ago but I forgot to check the BT and Wi adapters. -
I took out that screw, at least the one I could see, and it made my blu-ray player loose...I guess once I get brave enough and buy another wifi card (i bought the wrong size originally anyway) I'll try it again.

Care to give more details how can you be so sure that it has 3 antennas? My Dell XPS has 1
EDIT: Here's hoping that its the Wi adapter shown on the picture, else my 2 Wi adapters will be wasted -

You might have overlooked these tiny screws here.

I have upgraded my card to the New Intel 6300-Ultimate N(the upgrade to the 5300) Bought the card new on this forum from babyhemi in the marketplace for only $37 Shipped and he ships really fast. Easy install just a bunch of screws on back to take out and then the speaker plug pops off and the whole back comes off. Next there are 2 screws holding in the wifi card. The new card(5300 or 6300) has 3 antenna ports but only the 2 outside are needed. The third one is for 3x3 networks that have yet to be seen in household routers. I did order a set of 3 antennas on e-bay for $4 shipped to add one later on, just to be more future proof.
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=463916 - Link to buy 6300, he runs out fast but tends to get more stock every week.

EDIT: Wireless adapter
-
I might buy the N to replace the atheros since it doesnt seem to work in Linux at all (atleast to any sort of acceptable level).
-
AR5b95. That is the Atheros wireless card.
-
LOUSYGREATWALLGM Notebook Deity
Roger that!
I was hoping you were correct when you said "That looks like the wireless to me. Im pretty sure Bluetooth has 3 antennae connectors."
I hate to think that I have to take out almost everything to swap the Wireless card -
Yes wireless card is on the right in that picture. You just pop off the 2 antenna connectors and unscrew the 2 screws the mini card pops up and it just slides out. Then just slide the new card in replace the 2 screws and plug the antennas into the same spots(leave the middle spot open if you get a 5300 or 6300) or buy another antenna on ebay and plug it in.
-
Apparently the AR5b95 just doesnt work well with Linux, no matter what you do. Looks like I'm just gonna have to VM this
