Re: battery drain issue: no drain for me. with 50% charged (display 22% after start up), it lasted for nearly 2 hours.
On the other note, I find that if you unplug the adapter BEFORE pressing shutdown, the battery is correct at start up. that's my experience.

I get 3 hours of wifi enabled word processing/power point/internet browsing for research going from 100% to about 30-40% (that's just as long as I'm at the school library). Also, my screen is about 75-80% because there are too many windows in the place!
Edit: I have the issue with the battery drain, but really I'm almost positive that it is a graphical error, not an actual drain. -

Just want to add if you are picky on the display quality, I suggest to research more. Coming from Dell XPS I really had a hard time reading text (especially web pages from this forum) on this CW (not that small fonts but the contrast/color/ LED is poor) even after multiple attempts to adjust the display, still cant get it right. Also tried lowering the resolution down to 1360x768 but the display got worse, the black fonts looked gray
Well, if you have the patience to fine tune it to your preference, you can disregard what I said above. I finally managed to get it good (not best) to my liking after placing the DELL XPS side-by-side with the CW to adjust the setting close to XPS display.
So far, still no dizziness or headaches after 8 hours on the CW

What settings are you running? I don't have a lot of issues but I did tweak mine a bit so just wondering what I might be missing!
-
LOUSYGREATWALLGM Notebook Deity
Forgot to SS when I tweaked the Calibrate Color setting
1 step down from max brightness setting.
Here's the NVidia Control Panel setting I'm currently using

That helps a lot, I was just doing automatic before...like night and day lol

Hi everyone I had been reading this thread since a long time and finally a week ago bought my new CW2
, this is a great machine I'm very satisfied with it but i have been experience over heating, in some games the CPU temp reach 75 degrees and GPU temp 68, normaly my temps are CPU 44 and GPU 40, what can i do to lower dow this temps, any help ?
PS. Sorry for my bad english xD -
LOUSYGREATWALLGM Notebook Deity
You temps (CPU and GPU) are still on the safe zone but close to danger zone.
You can lower your temps by replacing the thermal paste "IF" you have the skills to do the thermal replacement.
Again, do not try to do the thermal replacement when you aren't 100% confident on your skills.
Would be better to have higher temps than breaking your laptop
-
I definitely got 4 hours+ with my CW 27 under normal loads (only web browsing, latex editor) with maximum screen brightness.
-
I was thinking in doing that, in my desktop I change the thermal paste every year, is too diferente to do that in my laptop ?? And what is better artic silver or artic ceramic ?
Any other thing to down my temps ? I'm a little worried about that
thanks for your help -
how do i get my cw to load up with my nvidia control panel setting for my display it when i restart my laptop it goes back to default and i have to change it every time
-
maximize the control panel window and make sure you hit "apply" in the lower right hand corner before exiting
-
Anybody using the Vaio update center/software? I just got a CW26FX and am wondering if there are useful updates that come thru the software (e.g., bios). I am not interested in updating Windows that way or Sony bloatware. Any thoughts?
-
Just successfully upgraded the stock Atheros internal wifi card to the Intel 6300 wireless chip, purchased from babyhemi from this forum. Pretty simple, just need to be careful to unscrew every screw on the back of the laptop and make sure you put them all back in the same slots you took them out of!

Check this post for further info on thermal paste replacement Link
Regarding thermal paste, I suggest OCZ Freeze for better result.
Good Luck! -
Anyone have the extended life battery? I just want to know how much does it stick out from the laptop compared to the normal battery?
-
Actually disregard my last post and check this thread.
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?p=5760571 -
i do that but then when i restart my comp it goes back to other settings
-
Did you see my last post right above yours? The same thing was happening with mine. You need to go into the VAIO Control Center and make the changes referenced in the other thread.
-
Thanks a lot that was very usefull, in the next days will change the thermal paste, any good cooling pad for this laptop ? I was thinking in the Thermaltake Massive23 ST
-
LOUSYGREATWALLGM Notebook Deity
@RAMMS
I don't think you will still need a cooling pad after thermal paste replacement
The CW has a very good cooling system design. -
Does anyone know what options are available for an extra AC adaptor?
I do not even see the factory one listed anywhere. AC19V41
I really need a 2nd one to stay in my bag so I can leave the main one plugged in at my office (power strip is a bit of a pain to get to)
I would prefer one that is reliable, but does not cost $100.
Thanks in advance. -
cheers i must of overlooked your post
all sorted
-
anyone????
-
So I love this laptop and the specs but the one thing holding me back from purchasing it is the glossy black finish.
Now I've found a few spots that sell the matte finish but they never have it with the things I want which are
I5 Processor
Matte Black
Nvidia GT330m
Blu Ray
500gb
1600x900 Resolution screen
Does anyone have a CW like this or know where I can get one?
Thanks a bunch. -
just search ebay. I ordered one for $10 with free shipping and it works great.
-
how is gaming with the Nvidia GT330m. i am really considering buying the icy white core i5 with Nvidia GT330m but want to know the gaming performance
-
I'm able to play starcraft 2 Beta on High (Ultra gets a little choppy) I'm pleasantly surprised!
-
Has anyone installed the Invisible Shield protector on their CW? If so can you please post pictures and talk about your experience with it. Thanks!
-
Soooo no one has this or anyting similar? -
just get the glossy black from best buy, as that has all the other specs that you want on it. definitely shouldn't be a deal breaker for you
-
oooops. wrong thread
-
I have one. Just bought it a few days ago. Some Sony stores have them, and they should be equivalent or even cheaper than Bestbuy, plus faster too. So far it's great, fast and quiet. The black does collect fingerprints though.
However, yesterday, just 3 days after purchase, I got my first blue screen. I think the problem lies either with Java or Adobe plugins for Firefox. I was playing Tiger Woods golf online, and the computer just crashed, twice. I reinstalled Firefox again, but today the game and the browser just lags. Does anyone have any experience like this? Should I do a system reinstall while the laptop is still new and empty? -
I haven't used my laptop much since i got it, just been hooking it up to my TV via HDMI and using it as a way to view downloaded tv shows. Will be taking it around the world in a week and using it extensively soon.
hopefully it's as sturdy as my D630. -
abaddon4180 Notebook Virtuoso
Is there a config with i3, 330, and 1600x900 res?
-
So I placed my order for my new CW with Best Buy last night! Super excited!!!!
Specs are the i5 2.4ghz, 500gb hd, Nvidia GT330m (YES!), Blu Ray and 1600x900 (Super Yes!)
Can't wait, now what to do about those fingerprints... -
seems like the number of buyers are increasing exponetially
......the lappie is selling like hot cake rite now
......cheers to everyone........
-
I'm really interested in the CW27FX but the only thing turning me off right now is the battery drainage issue.. Is this a significant factor in anyone else's experience with the laptop?
-
hey guys i have two questions can this run 1080p videos or 720p and how do movies look on this
-
for once lets get this clear, the battery drain issue most likely seems like a graphical error........even if it shows that the battery has drained there is no indication of this on the real output....it anyways runs for more time than shown on the battery meter.........there should be a fix out for this in near term.
@Arsh: This can run both 1080p/i and 720p videos with real ease, thats why they included the blu-ray drive with it in the first place and also supported by Nvidia GT330M......i have CW26 without a bluray but still watch HD videos with ease........As for the movies, the screen is upgraded from the normal one and has higher resolution of 1600x900 with great brightness levels........so your movies will look better than on the normal resolution screen....obviously it also depends on the print of the video you are running
Cheers

Can anyone help me? where can I order the CW version with the 330m? CAnada only gets the one with the 310m t-t...
-
Would someone with a 1600x900 CW mind posting some screen shots or video of the screen? I'd really appreciate it. I'm really interested in buying the 14" E series with 1600x900 but i need to know if that resolution will be too small for me when reading text.
Although I will be doing photo editing on the laptop, I'll be using it more for web browsing and general surfing.
Has anyone tried lowering the resolution to 1366x768? I know generally lowering the resolution looks terrible but I wondered if it wouldn't look too bad considering that both 1366x768 & 1600x900 are 16:9 screens.
Thanks! -
See attached. It's not so bad. For web browsing, I use 125% zoom in IE. Screen's great for video & photo editing.

Hey guys I'm still undecided about the Invisible Shield for the CW. Can ANYONE tell me your experiences with it if you have ordered it??
-
i have resolved the battery drain issue on my cw16 laptop, earlier i was getting around 16% battery drain when switched off in one night, now its 0%. this is what i did:
1. uninstalled the vaio smart network.
2. uninstalled the default widcom bluetooth drivers.
after restarting ,windows7 default bluetooth driver is installed on its own.
3.before shutting down,i switched off the wifi button.
everyone may not get the same result but there is no harm in trying

hello everyone i have sony vaio cw27 .. i try to connect my bluetooth headphones which is sony ericsson HBH-ds220 but when i search i cant find the device .. can any one help me with this issue?

Hey guys I'm still undecided about the Invisible Shield for the CW. Can ANYONE tell me your experiences with it if you have ordered it??
If you can get it on, more power to you. I got one. The glue that sticks it to the laptop is... very sticky.. and thereby impossible to put on.. (by me anyway).I ended up tossing it all in the trash and will deal with my fingerprints and minor scratches on the laptop through ignorance. Besides, in two years there will be laptops 2x as fast and good for the same price why bother stressing out about some stupid almost invisible scratches? -

Check your Bluetooth settings ( check the box "Allow Bluetooth devices to find this computer).
