as rightly pointed out, it wont play better in terms of graphics but will surely be better in terms of loading times.....like when u start d game it'll load faster n all d data transfer operations will b faster but not data processing or graphics rendering......

For better loading times you need to install d application on the SSD itself. thats why its recommended for the OS to be kept on the SSD for better bootup and shutdown times.

    Cheers :)

So I got one of those rubber keyboard covers off ebay for around $5 shipped and it actually works pretty well. It doesnt feel too bad to type on, if I was typing a long paper I would probably have to take it off but for just daily use for internet searches and IM. It works fine. Also cant really go wrong with the price compared to the sony one for $20 plus.
Just figured I would throw this out there for people.
Keyboard Silicone Skin SONY Vaio SR/Z/CW SERIES black - eBay (item 170491596693 end time Jul-25-10 17:05:25 PDT)

PS I did take about 2 weeks to get for the states from HK.

After someone has installed the new bios please update. Since I have never had any heat or boot issues Im not going to install until Im sure Sony isnt "downclocking" the processor or graphics.

I have not had any overheating problem though I mostly plug in the laptop cooler (sometimes I use it without the cooler and did not see anything hot)
    should I still install this?
    thanks

I also have not experienced any problems with my CW26FX (though I don't use a cooler.) I'm waiting before I update the BIOS.

They don't admit to heat problems...they say something about "improved thermal management" :p which could also mean "inferno reduction", I guess

I updated mine even though I haven't had any issues with heat...usually have mine plugged into the outlet though, rarely run the battery down below half. It did used to get a little warm, but not nearly the heat that other people have complained of on this forum and absolutely not hot enough to melt anything lol

edit: I'll post here if I notice it running significantly cooler

Hey-- I own a VAIO CW, i5 etc. I'm having trouble with my trackpad-- after I configure certain settings (momentum etc.) every time I put the computer in sleep or hibernate when I wake it up it's gone back to the default settings and it does this no matter how many times I reconfigure. The weird thing is that it just started doing this...does anyone have any idea what's happening or what I could do to fix it? Cheers!

Posting your complete specs including CW model will make things easier to solve.

btw, Did you reinstall your OS?

PS: Sleep & hibernate has been reported (long ago) to cause unstable OS after coming back from either sleep or hibernate.

I installed bios update. I dont notice any change in speed. But I think the laptop is cooler - with the cooler on, no part is warm (it used to be that the lower right side of the computer next to the trackpad was still warm with cooler on)
I think fan is working more?

Did you install the latest drivers direct from the synaptics website? The drivers shipped with the laptop by default are old and suck bit time.

None here ever confirmed removing their keyboard as of this post.

ps2cho posted some photos (thermal replacement) in this thread. Worth to check.

Out of curiosity, why do you have to take the keyboard off?

EDIT: Here's the link to ps2cho post. Link

Shouldn't the "Vaio Update" Utility take care of this automatically? Does not appear that it did.

Well consider your self lucky because my vaio update dosnt work anymore. It now says "Cannot aquire configuration setting from server" and nothing I do to fix it works. Ive uninstalled and reinstalled, cleaned registry, altered firewall settings, downloaded updates manually, etc, etc..... and still no dice.

If anyone else has encountered this problem and figured out a solution please let me know what worked for you.

alright, nows my turn to upgrade my hdd to ssd....and im on tight budget.

i will just need a 2.5" ssd and slap it in right?

will these be compatible? which is a better choice? (again, im on tight budget, hopefully someone here can sell a 2nd hand to me =) )

    OCZ Vertex 120GB
    Toshiba 128GB 2.5" SATA SSD
Samsung 128GB 2.5" MLC SSD SATA

its just P&P right? from the previous comments of forumers. but i might still consider to remove my DVD drive to fit in a SSD...win win =D

I had this same problem, finally figured out the problem. If you have a firewall program, then it blocks the connection. I have Norton 360 and when I disable the "smart firewall" and wait a few minutes for it to finally close down, then try the update, it works without a problem. Hope this helps!

edit: I just saw you said you changed firewall settings, I had to entirely disable my firewall for the duration of the check...make sure you wait a couple minutes because it takes a little bit for the firewall to completely close down.

Upgrading from HDD to SSD is like P&P.

Intel G2 would be the better choice.
"Never invest on a non-reliable SSD"

You might want to wait a lil bit more til the G3 comes out (you will see more SSD for sale from marketplace)

any rumours how long i should wait? well....im in real tight budget =/

    hmm, will this way work?
replace dvd drive with a small storage ssd to run as primary drive, then hdd as my storage. if its so, then how much space would i need? 80? 64?

Are the G3 intel ssd's going to release 320GB?
You are not getting the G3 instead wait for the current SSD users to switch to G3 and sell their old SSD :D
    Windows 7 = 15GB if memory serves
It depends how you gonna allocate your files

    Help!

I updated my Bios on the VPCCW26FX, and it went from what was a minor heat problem to a much larger one. Before the heat seemed to be concentrated near the battery on the back and it was outputting a very warm exhaust, now the whole front of the computer is at an almost unbearable heat...even the keys are running hot.

I'm quite a heavy user but I didn't have this problem before the update.
