Hi there guys! Could you recommend me please a good sound card for the Sony Vaio 3D laptop? I mostly want it for listening to music. The price can be maximum $200. I'm really eager to hearing your recommendations.

    Thanks,

Is there some reviews for this model? All I can seem to find in reviews for the old model I'm leaning toward getting this model it looks very nice (especially coming from Best Buy)

Hallo, I have bought the Sony Vaio 3d laptop and I'm interested if I need anything except glasses, for example something like this Sony TMR-BR100 3D Sync Transmitter for Sony's 3D Glasses?

No need for a Transmitter because its already built into the laptop.

It has the best screen at the moment (except for those $2400 and up IPS laptops). It has the Vaio Premium Display which comes very close to an IPS panel.

The 21 models are the 3D-enabled ones, whereas the 22s are the non-3D. Both can be configured quite similar but the biggest difference will be the 3D capability or lack thereof.

Actually Sony seems to have now made the model VPCF2290X to Configure-to-Order in either 2D (16.4") or 3D (16" 3D Full HD LCD). When you try to configure the 16" 3D Display - all the remaining choices seem to be grayed out leaving only the choices that were available for the original VPCF2190X 3D model..
i.e. If 3D is chosen you are unable to choose the Matte Black or Silver finish and only the NVIDIA GT 540M graphics card is made available. Actually there are two new choices now made available - Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit for either the 2D or 3D versions and a larger 512GB (512GBx1) solid state drive.

Apparently, Sony USA now only has one CTO model for the F series.. and that is the VPCF2290X. And you can configure this model to have the 16 inch 3D FULL HD LCD w/ LED backlight (it's a Vaio Premium lcd panel). However the canadian CTO version, the VPCF2290S is still the same. IMO, the canadian version is better, as you can have it with the i5 sandy bridge cpu, which is cheaper, performs close to the i7, and is very quiet and cool. And the best part? it's $200 cheaper! :D :D (all configurations accepted in the sale) CTO laptops sale is extended to July 16th in sonystore.ca oh yeah!!

Strange how Sony is mixing up the model numbers between 2D and 3D models.
F21X was reserved for 3D models and F22X for 2D models
Maybe its some kind of an error ???

Probably not. Maybe Sony decided to keep it less complicated. It seems they were streamlining the ordering process on their website as most Vaio laptops has only one CTO model. Having multiple CTO models for the same Vaio series would be confusing for the average consumer. And since the VPCF2290X and VPCF21 were literally the same except for the additional 3D screen, it would be better to have the 3D screen as a configuration rather than a separate model.

That and it's probably more a numbering simplification online than anything and they'll just use the current parts as-is. The bezel on mine simply says "VPCF2" so there's no need for them to "make" a Glossy Black frame with F22 marked on it.

hello everyone, is it true that the f21's screen is only 16"? and the f22's is 16.4"? does it look small?? especially for watching movies
    2/. i've also found on the sonystyle website that the dimensions of both the F22 and the F21 aren't the same :/ F21: 15.69" (W) x 1.34"-1.79" (H) x 10.69" (D) F22: 15.69" (W) x 1.31" - 1.70" (H) x 10.69" (D) how's that? they do have the same body, or not? and why they are 1.34-1.79 and the second is 1.31..they do have the same shape, or not?

I am really desperate to get it and would really appreciate your advice on this.. Thank and really waiting for your answers!

Were you needing this bag for the F2? I think I was looking at this one at our Sony store here in Dallas a while back. However, for the F2, the bag was too small due to the thick back-end of the unit.

Has anyone gotten Dolby Digital Live to work on this laptop? I've got Dolby enabled in the VAIO control center, but when I go to the properties for Digital Optical Out, Surround Sound is greyed out in the 'Dolby' tab.

It says to enable this, select "Dolby Digital Live" as the Default Format under the advanced tab.

However, when I try to do this, I get an error message that says "Failed to play test tone" and then "Format Not Supported By This Device."

I'm pretty sure Dolby Digital Live is supported though, as it's mentioned elsewhere in the drivers.

Regular Dolby Digital works fine (movies, etc), I just can't seem to get it to encode in real time.

Has anyone else gotten this working?

I have a question? I have bought a VAIO F 3D laptop and I have a 3D Side by Side bluray movie which is multi audio languages. I have tried power dvd 11 3D player and it is good for audio but I can not unite pictures (right and left images) and it is like a slide show with 2 simultaneous pictures on screen. Also I have tried stereoscopic player and the video is fine, but I can not change the audio to english audio. Can anybody help me with this problem?

Do you wonder why your fan is running when your computer is idle?

    FYI:
Found a program running on my Sony VAIO VPCF2190X that Sony installed without my permission to use my computer publicly when I'm not.

It is called "World Community Grid".

What gets me very upset is that NO ONE ASKED MY PERMISSION to activate it!

Found this link to Sony Computers to install BOINC (WCG) on new Computers.

Others seem to have the same concern:
Would like to hear comments and opinions.
    Thanks,

    Paul

So, this is essentially like that Folding @ Home program? Also, I haven't really dug around looking for this nor have I heard my fan go off while I'm simply idling. The article mentions opting in, is this application in our systems but inactive until we "sign up?"

I don't know if they changed anything with your model, but on my F13, it was already installed and running in the background until I uninstalled it. After that, there was a bunch of stuff left behind as well that I then deleted.

Then when I did a clean install on my laptop and was installing some Sony utilities, I got a pop up asking if I wanted to participate in the program and I said no. That not only stopped it from running, but it did not install it at all and I see no remnants of the program on my computer.

The program is called World Community Grid and it was the last program on the list in my "Uninstall a program" list. Also there is a significant file on Local Disk (C: ) > Users > boinc_master, that I believe Sony has installed specifically for this program and it is setup as "State Shared" with the User's computer name.

It is interesting that on my first use of the back-up feature on this computer I got two "check results" messages.:

It stated: "The backup completed but some files were skipped."

"Backup encountered a problem while backing up file C:Users\boinc_master\ Contacts. Error: (The system cannot find the file specified. (0x80070002))"

"Backup encountered a problem while backing up file C:\Users\boinc_master\ Searches. Error: (The system cannot find the file specified. (0x80070002))"

    - and would keep giving me this message until I added a folder named Contacts and one named Searches in the boinc_master folder; So I don't know what message if any I will get if I delete the complete "boinc_master" file in C:\Users.

Do you know of the process name to see if this is running in my or your system?

Personally, this doesn't really bother me any, though the concept is intriguing and I may try it someday if it isn't already active. I know others' stances will probably be different, however. ;)

Sorry, I don't remember the specific process name anymore since it was 9 months ago that I removed it. Like the other poster said, the program itself is World Community Grid. You will find boinc and/or boinc_master or something similar under Users. I don't remember though if the process name resembles either of those enough to recognize it without looking up each process.

I understand why some people would choose to run it but it is something that should definitely be a choice. When I got my laptop, the first thing that concerned me was that under Security permissions I had "boinc" and "boinc_master" user/groups that had ADMIN privileges on my machine. This is not acceptable to me. I do not know if that is the case if you install it yourself or if Sony has changed the implementation since then. Now that may not be an issue for some of you but it is certainly not something that should be configured on my computer without my consent.

That is enough reason for me not to run it for any reason, but the other thing, which may not be an issue on the F2 series, is that on my F13, as some of you know, the fan is already running high all the time and any extra background processes like this just contribute to the problem. I'm all for people voluntarily running this program, but it should not be running out of the box like it was on mine with full Admin privileges without my knowledge or consent.

When I clicked on the World Community Grid program while the fan was going full blast, I found a project being worked on at the time that was @ a 47% completion level.
Not authorizing or even given an FYI opportunity acknowledgement that the research system was on my computer, my ah-ha reactions were:

Now looking back I understand why I had problems that manifested themselves intermittently at various times when I was using the laptop.

When I was viewing 3D Blu-ray's at several various times, about 10 minutes into the movie the Corel DVD program would reduce from full screen to a window. Since 3D movies don't play in a window I would have to restart the Blu-ray 3D procedure and go through all the rigamarole of HDCP start-up a second time and once Java was activated, I would have to find the place, if I could, where the movie abruptly stopped.

Sony was no help at all when I told them about the frequent intermittent problems months ago.
They said they would give the information to the technicians and I never heard back.

It hasn't happened again since I uninstalled the WCG.

Thought that 3D Blu-ray's must cause tremendous processing computations as the laptop fan many various times would be at full blast the same time I was watching a movie. I would have to turn both the volume of the laptop and the volume of the software 100% just to understand the dialogue over the fan noise.

That doesn't happen anymore since WCG was removed.

Looking back I also suspect I know why the WCG program activated itself. As I mentioned in my earlier posts, during my first backup the first day I used the laptop I encountered two errors that annoyingly couldn't be corrected untill I added two designated folders in the boinc_master file. To add the folders I remember the lapatop asked me for administrative permission for access to do it. ;) I gave it and the errors stopped. It could be a back-door for the authorization for the WCG program to start. Never received any type of FYI for program identification or permission. :(

    FYI:
After WCG was deleted I now have deleted the boinc_master file and every thing in it. (Local (C: )\Users\boinc_master.) After a system tune-up and restart, I haven't received any problem messages after backup and have a "no current issues detected" status.

I guess I'll dig (again, but a little deeper this time) and see if I can find if this is running on mine. Also, jpride, I saw the Boinc user on the list but never checked to see what kind of privileges it has.

Paul, you and I both got our F21s from the first batch, right? I remember each of us, including all the other early adopters, were having different experiences running Blu-Rays on our systems. I'll take into account what you've mentioned regarding the errors; I never had any playback issues or windowing occur. I guess the most direct approach is to just look for the program and see if projects have completed as well. ;)

    jpride,

Did you uninstall the two user accounts: boinc_master and boinc_project that are setup for security permissions in Parental Controls? Interestingly neither account is made available for permanent removal in the "Add or remove user accounts" link on my laptop except my own Administrator/owners account.

Sony's agent suggested Revo Uninstaller (Freeware), but I can't find the two accounts with that program either. :(

Areas so far where I've found boinc remnants and permission tools still present after uninstalling CWG:

Windows Start button > In the search box, type run and press enter on the keyboard > In the run box, type control userpasswords2 and then press ok

    Start->Administrative Tools->Computer Management->Local users and Groups->Groups.

    Start->Administrative Tools->Computer Management->Local users and Groups->Users.

Interesting that in parental controls both boinc_master and boinc_project accounts have "standard user" status titles, but the level of access in computer management Computer Management->Local users and Groups->Groups and Computer Management->Local users and Groups->Users have an "other" status selected instead of the "standard" status choice that is available but not checked.

Also confusing are Administrator properties that list Administrators, "boinc_admins", "HomeUsers" as "Members of".

    @ Paul H
I was unable to remove the two boinc users - another thing that I found unacceptable security-wise. I did not try third party programs to remove them and do not know if any would work. I have done a clean install on my machine and no longer have any remnants of the program so I cannot test that. If you try some 3rd party uninstaller programs and are having trouble, you may want to try re-installing the program first before trying to use the uninstallers. Otherwise, everything may not be removed. Of course, everything may not be removed anyway - I haven't tried them like I said - and the Sony version of the program may install differently than the program you would download. If all else fails and you want to make sure you have only what you want on your computer, I would suggest (after making recovery disks) to do a clean install and installing just what you want on your laptop.

After reading your post, I checked my laptop to see if the "World Community Grid" program was running on it. What's odd is that I didn't see it in my "Uninstall a program" list. I didn't see it under processes in the Task Manager. But I did find the Local Disk (C: ) > Users > boinc_master folder. Everything in it was empty. I'm not sure how the program was removed from my laptop.

Well, after reading this from wiki, I'm glad its gone!!

Still, I wonder how it was removed? I knew nothing about it until I read this post. I let my laptop idle and the fan didn't kick into high gear. My CPU usage stayed close to 0%

What dock stations or cooling trays are you guys using? Mine runs hot, but haven't decided what is a good one to get.

Watch this video guys (especially those who are considering this laptop). It shows how amazing the screen on this laptop is. The colors! WoW!!!!
    Hats off to Sony ;)
Watching this video reminds me of a line I read on a review of the F 3D. "Its a BRAVIA with a computer system inside" :D

Hello there, sorry I didn't login for a while now. Yes, I really like that bag. Hm, it's strange that it is too small.. so my F215FX/BI laptop won't fit in it? Too bad that would be :(. I am crazy over it and for 5 months now I am trying to buy it with no luck. Been raping the eBay search button for it, but no one delivers to my country. I must be so unlucky..

The screen had "Giga pocket digital" on the top left of the screen. The software for the Media Center PC's, no longer available according to Sony Style.

Yeah, I think this bag was specifically designed for the F1 series units. The store had a F2 on display and they let me try the fit with the bag. It may fit but it would take a little bit of fancy maneuvering to fit, which didn't seem to be practical in the long run.

Giga Pocket Digital is only available in Japan. And the Japanese F 3D units even come with a Sony Media Center Remote, like the old ARs :)
