^^
Sorry maybe I was wrong. But in a lot of other places its specified as supporting BT 2.1 and not 3.0.
Its 2.1 in the sony document a few posts back.

Ported speakers in a laptop? How does that work?
-
Where does it say 100% NTSC color gamut? These RGBLED type panels were offered in Europe but never in North America, am I right?
-
Earlier F series was offered with a Adobe RGB 100% screen in EU and Asia.
This time I think even US and Canada will get the 100% NTSC screen. -
Any idea how much battery life this newer F will offer over the current F13??
-
Should be about 30 mins extra max over F13
-
If I remember correctly the old one was 100% Adobe RGB, so this one should have even wider color gamut (100% Adobe RGB is about 94% of NTSC).
Here's some gamut comparisons (Adobe RGB):
-
Thanks for the youtube link, though it still needs to be confirmed since nowhere on the specs sheet or website does it say 100% NTSC.
-
well, the battle is gonna be between
Dell M17X 3D
HP envy 17 3D
Sony Vaio F 3D
....
does the vaio F support two hard drives like the other two? -
I very much doubt the new f will have dual hdd but I could be wrong
I think you are spot on with the comparison on the alienware m17x - and something Sony is missing a trick on. Why have customiseable options if you can't really customise - sure the dell will cost more with a better graphics card and dual hdd options - but has so much more grunt to it.
Surprising that Sony push it as a real powerhouse for 3d movies and games - when it's going to struggle on 3d games.
I'm 95% Sony due to style and function - but that gtx 460 in the m17x is a real draw - come on Sony, surprise us! -
-
anyboady know where can we demo a envy 17 3d and alinware 3d? -
I think the Sony is going to win hands down on the 3d screen - they are really selling inclusion of the Bravia heritage and being a showcase for 3d and Bravia - it isn't going to disappoint - there would be alot of reputation at stake if it was anything other than best in class - it's going to impress.
What I'm less than sure about is the much touted improved sound! Is it really going to be that good? We know Sony screens can be great - so plus Bravia influence = expertise. The speakers....mmmm.
The only failing in the f I think is the graphics card. Be great to see a higher option available - or maybe another will become available as happened between f12 and f13. -
So true!
I just wish it had a more powerful GPU
540M just can't handle games in 3D -
well perhaps the new F series is more for 3D movies than gaming, but if sony wants it for 3D gaming then fail.
-
For a machine that is being marketed as powerful - having a graphics card that can do the 3d movies and not gaming feels like skimping. It's interesting reading the marketing blurb.
-
This card is not so good?
-
nvidia 560?
-
The new 3D F will come with a NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 540M GPU which whilst is fine for 3d movies, just doesnt have enough power for delivering on 3d games.
Sony marketing is a bit of a puff here, stating -
"Play amazing 3D Blu-ray movies and games with high performance NVIDIA® DX11 graphics" - Now are they being clever in saying "3d movies and games" as opposed to "3d movies and 3d games" - I think so.
A simple offer of a higher graphics card in the customisation would hit my buttons for sure. -
According to this article: Sony’s 3D Laptop: New F Series VAIO : Online Social Media the new Sony VAIO F will weigh 3.1 kg or 6.8 lbs. Definitely a desktop replacement!

or a decent door stop
-
So does the recent Sandy Bridge recall mean that the February 6th pre-order date for this laptop is out the door? UGH SO DISAPPOINTING...
-
By the TDP number (32-35 watts), they should have put in a 555M which has the same TDP as the 540M, so that's a little disappointing. (and the 555M is supposed to be 40 or so percent faster than the 540M.) It's too bad since the screen technology looks like the best in the industry if the 100% NTSC claim is true.

count down day 3...

count down day 2...

Full specs are now available, I just checked the Danish Sony Store:
https://shop.sony.dk/shop/VAIO-Laptop-PCs/F-Series-16-4/VPCF21Z1E/BI.EC1 -
There was a review on it on a website, and they mentioned that the screen is just awesome and the 3D part works like a charm.
" Pin-sharp detail fills every corner of the screen, while the excellent colour reproduction sees it shrug off the challenges of Avatar, the beautifully rendered palette of blues and greens bringing the planet of Pandora to life.......
...the sheer quality of the display more than makes amends. Indeed, despite the relatively small 16in panel, Blu-ray 3D content was jaw-droppingly effective, with environments reaching deep into three-dimensional space and objects bursting out of the confines of the screen."
EDIT:
Here's the review
http://www.pcpro.co.uk/reviews/laptops/364675/sony-vaio-vpcf21z1e -
And the screen is matte, right? If this has fixed the noisy fans from the rest of the F series I may be tempted.
-
so sad hearing that the 3d is bad on gaming. guess the new sb hp envy 3d is the way to go... keep waiting...
-
I wonder, though, if this F is going to have more than one processor and GPU option available on the CTO like the current F does (in US, at least). I noticed on the Danish site there was no mention of SSD, while on the US Sonystyle it does. I guess everything will be answered tomorrow.
-
The website's still undergoing maintenance!! So close...
-
Hmm, even after the maintenance, I don't see anything on the site. Hopefully they pull through on the date they mentioned. I'm actually pretty excited about this laptop and want to see the options that will be available.
-
Yeah, I was afraid of that. The Y is now available, but not the F. That stupid Intel recall means we'll have to wait even longer for the F.
-
Ah, yup. I emailed them about it. Now I just checked and "Preorders begin February 6" is now "Coming soon."
:/ -
It won't be out until late March or early April at the earliest due to the sandy bridge fiasco
-
On the German Sony website the delivery date also just changed from mid-March (was early-March initially) to mid-April. ;(
Source: http://www.sony.de/product/vn-f-series/vpcf21z1e-bi -
Because of the delay, will they perhaps put a higher end graphics card than what they were going to offer at the present time? I think that would be great!!!
-
I would never buy it, 3d is useless for laptop, but price for this one it's ok, very reasonable in my opinion..
-
-
SB chipset failure doesnt affect Vaio F series coz their NorthBidge chipset is from nVidia (no mobile SB chipset provide USB3).
-
Hence the change in release time from Feb to mid April. Read this
" On the German Sony website the delivery date also just changed from mid-March (was early-March initially) to mid-April. ;(
Source: VPCF21Z1E/BI (VPCF21Z1E/BI) : Technische Daten : VAIO & weitere Computerprodukte : Sony" -
It has been a month, and Sony didn't reveal a new date for releasing VAIO F 3D.
-
Pre-orders in the US were supposed to start tomorrow. No telling if they will keep on schedule with the disaster in Japan. So we will have to wait and see. Other countries already have had pre-orders for some time now and were supposed to start shipment end of March.
-
You can pick them up from the 17th of March in Hong Kong.
-
I found it on Sonystyle USA. Ships out around 3/29. Starts at $1,659.99.
Core i7-2630QM, 2720QM, or 2820QM
7 Home Premium or Professional
Vaio Premium Display
GeForce GT 540M
500GB, 640GB, 256GB SSD
4GB, 6GB, 8GB RAM
Blu-Ray Player or Player/Burner
Standard or Large Capacity Battery -
Anyone else picking this one up? I just placed my CTO order, estimated shipping is the the same as above, 3/29.
-
From this comparison:
Product Comparison : VAIO and Computing : Overview : Sony
Dimensions
VPCF21Z1E/BI
Depth Main Unit (mm) 271.3
Height Main Unit (mm) 34 - 45.4
Width Main Unit (mm) 398.3
Weight with Supplied Battery and Supplied Drive (kg) ???
VPCF13Z0E/B
Depth Main Unit (mm) 263
Height Main Unit (mm) 31
Width Main Unit (mm) 387.2
Weight with Supplied Battery and Supplied Drive (kg) 3.1
There are two thickness measurements, 34 and 45.4, so we can assume there will be a thinner non 3D version of this laptop.
Standard battery seems to be the same. As for the better power efficiency of sandy bridge, this remains to be seen, I wouldn't hold my breath. Reviews of the new SB MBP show better power performance for 'light' web browsing and worse for flash web browsing etc. I'm afraid a lot of people will be disappointed by real life experience as opposed to Intel's marketing claims... -
Edit: Also, if you were curious about the weight. since I see the question marks there, the US weight is listed at 7.07 lbs including standard battery, so approx 3.21kg. -
Well I never thought I'd be peeved at Sony for making a screen TOO good... If there was a thinner, non-3D option I would have smacked down an order already. There's no solid info about a non-3D option yet is there?

not sure if this video has been posted.

that display when closed sure looks thick.
