thought i would start one for ar series
i have vgn-ar730e running dual boot with vista home premium factory install,
windows 7 ultimate 32 bit upgraded over copy of factory installed vista on second hard drive. all drivers working with exception of a hiccup now and then with screen brightness.
have been in contact with sony support you know answer.
i was asking about when up dated drivers for either vista or win 7 would be made for this notebook. as of last answer THEY AIN;T.
i would at least want a upgraded video driver since nvidia has completely updated theirs since this notebook was made. COULD THAT BE ASKING TO MUCH OF SONY. to at least upgrade the vista drivers.

this notebook has been running all of the beta's win 7 since they were released to the public and now running a real copy of ultimate received from sony.

hi there i have vgn-ar71m notebook and i would like to say that these laptos really good but the bad thing is that these laptos have a drivers probleme.specially the graphic card i would like to say that i have installed win7 ultimate and it work nice i have manage to get drivers to get it work but one probleme is video card i installed a driver that microsoft provided for the geforce 8400m gt and i installed it with no problems but after i installed win7 upgrade advisor it swhoes me that every thing installed is compatibile with win7 except the video driver is not compatibile,every thing untill now work nice,no blue screens but this comatibility thing,any ideas.

My Nvidia 9400M is not recognized at all under W7 and my sp buttons don't work.

I will download the drivers from your clean install of Windows 7 64bit. However, I have the VGN AR630E (not the FZ190e). Does that fact that I have a different model matter as far as downloading those drivers? The problem for me is that there are no 64 bit VISTA drivers on sony's website for my model.

 

i had a look at the AW series and sony provide 186.40 for these laptos ,and by looking through the mode text and inf file i noticed that they included support for nvidia 8400m gt

it seems that sony will provide a full support for the 8400m gt at all

samozen, just change the SUBSYS ID in all the places and install the 186.40 driver.

Samozen, I am using 186.91 driver (linked in my guide). Use Uniextract/ 7-zip to extract the EPXXXX.exe file. Going to try 186.40 (thanks for finding it).

 

i tried with uniextract but it give me "cannot extraxct" i used files fro temp file i made the change on inf file and the mode and it work ...let hear from you

i have downloaded the Graphics Driver (Nvidia) 8.15.11.8640-64bit-EP0000208510.exe i tried to extract it but no rezult then i run the installer and it gives me that it can not find any device then i went to temp file and coy all files there and i made the change to inf file and mode.txt and then run the exe and it reconise my card but with error that windows can not verify the publisher and i select to continue and it installed without any problems....

 

Get the file from my link. Once you edit any digitally signed inf file, it loses it's digital certificate and so Windows promps about installing unsigned driver.

I'm having some issues on getting a video driver running on an VGNAR730E that belongs to a friend of mine. I'm trying the fix at the top of the page to see if that gets me anywhere. If that doesn't work, does anyone else have any suggestions?

Hi, I am happy we have an active thread for Sony vaio vgn-ar, I have 730e/b, I love it, but it seems the processor is my bottleneck...
has anyone tried putting a x7900 on it? or improving t8100?
is t8100 o/c able on this mobo?
I loves my sony, and I never had a graphics issue like stated here, I even did o/c my gpu, and it was stable to 15%.

 

Ok, heres the problem i have...
video drivers stopped responding and my screen would go blank. got on my netbook and chatted it up with sony suppports live chat (usualy very helpful) until this last time when i was following steps the analyst was telling me... long story short, i have a 1600 dollar paper weight! i have nothing on my hdd's due to removing the partition (i know that its somewhat my own fault) does anyone out there have a set of restore disc's for a vgn-ar730 e/b? please help

 

Sorry no disc but if I were you, I'd upgrade to Windows 7 Pro 64-bit if you're able to. I did so on my AR790 and I can't tell you just how much it feels like a new FAST PC. Took a week to find all the right drivers (or rather, drivers that will work on the AR) but I have everything working as should be. Also if you do get your system up and running again, I would download and install DriverMax. It's a shareware program that you can install and download 1 driver per day for free. The reason I say use DriverMax is because I tried so many Nvidia drivers after i upgraded to Win7 and none of them worked right or would even install. I then tried DriverMax and it found and forced the right driver to install, not once but twice now.

I am having no luck getting windows 7 pro to work on my laptop I have a vgn-ar730e the divers one the website are all 32 bit and won't work with the 64bit os the two major issues I'm having are the optical drive won't recognize at all and I can't get the nvidia display drivers to work can any elp me out and tell me how to get it all working

 

im having the same issues with the drivers, i have windows 7 ultimate because i was having so many issues with vista... didnt have problems until after the warranty was up! also you can get the driver for video directly from nvidia, but it wont work on these laptops... i know alot of people have these, and im sure we have some good hackers out there that have already solved the issue, please help us!!! im also having an issue with my 2nd hdd...its not showing up when i look in my computer, it does show when i go into my bios... doesnt give me any option to set up raid in bioe either. anyone else have this problem when installing windows 7?

Okay guys; please try this first for Video Driver problems: Download and install DriverMax http://www.innovative-sol.com/drivermax . You’ll need to go through the few simple steps and setup a free account with them before the program will do its full scan. The limited freeware option allows you to see all the drivers it has found for your hardware and allows you to install 1 per day through it. What you'll want to do is FIRST check the video driver it has found for your notebook and allow it to download and force installation of that driver even if it's not digitally signed. I found all my drivers elsewhere but I could not get a single NVIDIA 8600GT driver to install until I let DriverMax download and force the installation.

jsmart90, the UI on DriverMax is a little strange as there are two control centers and so it may take a few minutes to figure things out. Let me know if you have any issues. Also as a free user of the program, it seems that once the program starts to download a driver, it takes 10 to 15 minutes to complete so just let it do it's thing .

Also I can send the 8600GT driver to you (about 100MB) but you'd still need to install DriverMax so that it can force the installation as I've tried it without DriverMax and it won't install. BTW' the version I have is NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT driver version 8.15.11.9040. I've tried a few an this version gives the best video playback.

 

89stang, I'm guessing that you may have not set things up right, when you installed Win7. When you install Win7 you should see the options for all drives and be able to choose. Type and then click on Computer Management > Storage > Disk Management and see if all your drives are displayed in the center column?

 

i actualy just did a re-install on my laptop and found my mistake. thanks so much for everyone helping us solve our issues! im going to start the driver serch again now, and hope to have everything running properly again in about a week. i do however have another question about another problem im having... i have just started using my battery, i charged it to 100% unpluged it from power supply, power said 99% and time to last on charge, about 2 minutes later it just turns off... bad cell, or another problem?

 

89stang, are you positive your video problem is not hardware related? My 8400M GT crapped out last month (I spent over $400 before realizing it was hardware related.) Mine is a VGN-AR630E, I love the screen size and quality of picture on these, just wish it would work again.

 

pretty sure its a driver issue, my screen is working great, and has ok picture i guess for what windows 7 installed... i just want to get the real driver installed, and seems like the only thing that might help at this point is beating my head against the wall! i have looked at many fixes that i found on google, but cant seem to get anything to install properly

 

ok, im about to throw this thing out a window!!! after i get a driver to install i restart my computer. everything is great until it restarts, then the screen gets stupid. mostly black with a few lines in it. cant get anything after that, then i do a restore to before i installed the driver and everything is fine. any ideas?

 

Ok so I did something really dumb. I tried to install W 7 off line into my VGN_AR730E. But in order to do this I needed to run the custom install and not the upgrade. I do have a Seagate external hard drive so I ran an update and proceeded to install the 64bit version. My problem was when I tried to restore from backup. All of my files are there but they did now install they are in a subfolder and I am not able to run the programs. I tried trouble shooting it and used the vista drivers and they still won’t run I don’t think I have the drivers anymore. Can anyone help me get my programs to work again?

O and I forgot to mention I’m also away from home for about the next 5 months and forgot to bring most of my original copies (I thought that was what the external was fore)

What about my other programs how can I get my Webroot and PowerDVD9 to work? Do i have to reinstall my games, and if so did i just erase all of my progress?

Iam havin a serious issue with my Sony Vaio Ar series 790 model.

My battery was dead and i bought a battery from India which came with a cd saying instal cd before inserting battery, it looked like a bios update cd while i was doing the instalation, after it was done it said it didnt instal properly would you like to re-instal or go ahead, before i could decided the computer re-started and now its a brick.

the computer doesnt come on at all, i called the guy whom i bought the battery from and he says that the bios got corrupted and he is looking for the bios files to update it and it should be fine, its been 2 weeks now and he cant seem to find the bios update files from anywhere i tried looking for it also but i couldnt find on sony website or other places.

anyone know where to find the bios files for sony vaio AR series 790 model please.

or does anyone know of anyone who has this same model so i can get the bios files from them.

I have the AR290G and I would really like to upgrade to windows 7 from windows XP. i'm practically computer illiterate so could someone please help me out with how to successfully change over from XP to Windows 7?

I attempted to upgrade to windows 7 but sony doesn't offer the necessary drivers making my display blown up and ugly. also, my webcam doesn't work.

Sounds a bit like the battery issue I'm going through with my AR520E. It will boot up fine only if the old battery is in place (or no battery at all). But as soon as I put the new replacement battery in, it will not start up at all. Seems like I came across a post somewhere saying that putting the BIOS back to the default settings would restore it (only if you can get into it using F2 during a boot up, of course). Another post said that when a BIOS is updated, normally the old version is automatically saved (but unfortunately it didn't mention where!) I suppose if no better solution presents itself, you could pull the hard drive and use a different computer to search the contents for the old BIOS file. Save a copy of it to a disk to flash the BIOS on the first computer... a lot of trouble to go to, but it might work.

I have the same issue. I saved programs to ext HD and then retrieved them and now it is one big file "Sony" , but it won't load any of the program. Any suggestions?

 

I ended up purchasing the recovery discs from Sony. So it is now running Vista Home Premium just as it was shipped by the factory.
I still want to run win7 on there.
My dilemma is to do upgrade or clean install.
I have no personal files on there-if I do the update do I need to back up anything? And as far as I can tell there may still be a few driver issues. The video card, and the drivers for web cam. Is that pretty accurate.

Is there really a huge difference between clean install vs upgrade?

 

still trying to get drivers to do a clean load of win 7. but due to sony not having updated drivers. the only way i have been able to get this machine to run win 7 the best is to use original vista load completly updated. then upgrade to win 7 32 bit. still has some problem with screen brightness.

i will not purchase another sony product.

Hi I am new to this forum and this is my 1st post.

I have a VGN-AR790 and we all know there's 2 HDDs in it in Raid 0 mode. Has anyone tried disabling Raid 0 and configure the 2 drive as C and D drive? I do a lot of video editing and I am having an idea to swap out the 2 HDD and replace it with a 120GB SSD as boot and program drive and another normal SATA 2.5" 500GB 7200 RPM HDD as storage.

Is this possible on AR790?

hantanbl I've just purchased an older ar 190g not near as new as yours. I had the same question. Mine is limited by the 945gm chip set and the ICH7 sata controller it limits mine to sata 1.5 still trying to figure this out. And was told ssd wasn't the best way to go. This is for me only but yours being newer I'd hope you could. I could not tell you how. Go to the home page on this site and enter I belive is the aftermarket uprade and performance section. And try your question there if you don't find answers here. Don't give up where there is a will there is a way.
This is my problem wanting to go from the t2500 to t7200 cpu which would go from 32 bit to 64 bit. If I'm not mistaken again. Would also allow 4gb ram instead of 2gb. Here againg trying to find out more on the sata 1.5 aspect. Does this limit my size of hard drives? And wanting to go from 5400 rpm to 7400 or 10000rpm. Questions, Questions, Questions.

has anybody installed more than 4 gb in the vgn-ar? i have a 790ub and dont want to waste money purchasing 2 4gb sticks. im currently running a stable 64bit windows 7 install and want to bring back that frest out the box performance.

 

Hi. I am new here and was hoping someone could help me. I own a Sony AR-605E. Since updating to windows 7 ultimate edition, the disc eject button on the left side of the keyboard has stopped working and also the S1 and S2 buttons stopped working. The only way I can eject CDs now is to press the little button the CD drive which is hard to press. Can anyone tell me how I could fix this problem? I looked for drivers on sony's website but don't know if that is the problem. I tried Sony tech support but they were useless and tried to sell me a service plan. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks.
