Not sure what you mean really, but I am guessing your talking about Nvidia 3D vision. Yes, certain Nvidia desktop as well as notebook Graphic cards support 3D vision which lets you play games in stereoscopic 3D.

AMD 6630M does not support gaming in 3D, in fact there is just one 3D gaming AMD powered laptop and that is the HP Envy 17 3D.

    AMD HD3D Technology

amd does support 3D in some high end models..not on 6630M..

what i meant earlier was....i was playing assassin's creed on my friend's desktop like we normally used to play, and he pressed some hotkeys and the game turned to 3D...i used those blue/red glasses to play it...i found it very exciting...though it didn't work well in nfs hotpursuit...6630 is a new card and i thought it can support this feature...btw i am buying vpccb15fg this week...

    edit:
    http://www.amd.com/us/products/note...6700m-6600m/Pages/amd-radeon-6700m-6600m.aspx

this is amd's page for 6700M/HD 6600M Series Graphics card....it says we can we can enjoy stereo 3D....pls look into it and reply.....

Hey guys I have been reading this thread for a while now because I believe this is the laptop I want to purchase. I just had a couple of questions. First is that I know the 6630m graphics card is having some issues and I was wondering if it would effect anything besides games. And second is that I was wondering how much this laptop weighed, because I think I may be carrying it around. Thanks for any help. It just seems like there are few reviews about this laptop that I can find.

Another update: Sony emailed me back again, telling me to "download all of the driver updates on the VPCCB190X page." As if I am not intelligent enough to do that. They THEN suggested I go to services.msc and have the Radeon start up as an automatic service. However, nothing in the list is from ATI or under Radeon, only Intel. I sent them an angry letter back.

I'm soon going to have to look into biting the bullet and selling this. The support by Sony is simply horrendous. I am not a "hardcore" gamer, but if the machine has the ability to run some games, yet can't due to incompetent support, then why should I keep it? I'll gladly pick up something that either has better support, or something with Nvidia Optimus, since that actually intelligently switches graphics, unlike this crap where I have to tell every single program, including Google Chrome, which graphics to use.

I've disabled the auto brightness feature, but I still experience brightness variations when working on the computer. when looking a dark or gray web page the display dims, and its highly noticeable, but when the computer is connected it does not happend. I don't know where to disable that 'auto dimming' issue (because for me its not a feature) when the laptop is not connected.

As I mentioned earlier in my last post, only the Hp Envy 17 supports 3D gaming with an AMD GPU.

Sony continues to be clueless. I've been in an email battle with them for a few days now. First, they told me contact game companies. Then, told me to go complain to ATI. Then, they tell me to install the drivers on the Sony page, as if I'm an idiot. Last night, they told me to factory reset the Vaio, why I don't know. The problem is out of the box, yet they keep denying it. Now they want me to deal with Live Chat, which should be fun. I'll tackle that fun task maybe Wednesday or Thursday.

I already installed the hotfix from the previous pages. n, yeah it works well. But, be careful when u trying to alt + tab while in-game. Your games will be stuttering. FOREVER! U cannot fixed it except uninstall the driver. i stay with the old driver until they fixed this problem

    Memory question here:

I am looking to buy this laptop in the next day or two, but wanted to buy RAM separately to get more bang for the buck. I was going to buy some standard Kingston 8 GB ram (first link below) via newegg, but noticed what seemed to be more high powered RAM also, specifically noting 2nd gen Sandy Bridge compatibility (second link below).

Can anyone tell me if both of these would work for the CB, and if so, is the second option worth putting down more money on? It is still cheaper than upgrading to 8 GB stock memory so I think it would be a justified purchase if the performance and compatibility is there.

    Thanks!

The RAM for CB model is

    DDR3 PC3-10600 SO DIMM 204-PIN with a maximum of 4GB per slot

and don't go for the fancy technology stuff, all the rams are pretty much the same, the ones from kingston, corsail and crucial. ~$80 should be the price for 8gb laptop ram these days

Hello everyone...long time lurker, first time poster here...

Have been looking at the 14 inch version of this laptop (Sony Vaio CA) for a while now...but the issues with Photoshop reported by some users is holding me back from making the final plunge...

Can those of you with these issues be more specific (I think I read about 3D rendering?)

Other than that does the software run normally at all? Also which version of Photoshop are you using?

Also is there anyone else who has used it without any issues...??

Any insight offered would be of great help...thanks!

I use my CB for gaming and web development, regularly using Fireworks and Photoshop (CS5). I am yet to experience a single issue with the laptop.

I thought the 3D capabilities were a bit weak, but the latest AMD patch has unlocked a quite a bit of potential. I am quite happy with it.

Anyone else having video jamming problems?

I'm running an SSD. I had a Vertex 3, and I thought that was causing it, so I returned it and now have an Intel 320 Series, but it still happens. Only about once a day or so, and I can't pin down any consistencies with what I'm doing when it happens. I've tried doing clean installs, but it doesn't fix it.
I've also added an extra 4GB of RAM. I wonder if either the SSD or the RAM could be behind it? Other than that they're all the original video drivers etc that it came with.

    No one else having this?
When it happens on my VPCCB15FG the whole system freezes, and the screen flickers like a strobe, none of the keyboard buttons or mouse work, and the only way to get out of it is to hard reboot the system. Sometimes when this happens the clock resets to some random date years different from now.
I ran memtest86 for 8 hours last night to check the memory: No errors.

Here are a couple of other shots of this happening each a different incidence on different days:

    Any ideas?

Edit: I can't do anything to replicate this jamming up, it just happens at totally random times, sometimes when the system is idle, sometimes when it is logged out of my user account, sometimes when I am browsing the internet... I can't figure out what is causing it.

Can't really say much without doing a full diagnostic, but my first thought is that it's a bad motherboard.

Contact Sony's support as soon as you can, if you haven't already. Unless you dropped it somehow, warranty should take care of all this.

    Best,

Edit: I'm amazed if I'm the only one who has this issue?! Very surprising. How about others out there who have swapped to an SSD with the factory 500GB drive in an optical bay caddy? No issues for you guys either?

If the FHD screen is available on the HP where you're buying it, go for the HP with the i7, FHD, and 6770M.

Otherwise personally I'd get the Sony, especially if your games aren't /that/ intensive, because the 1920x1080 resolution is much better for general usage than 1366x768.

You may also want to check out a few other laptops that offer FHD and decent graphics cards, though I don't know what's available in your country.

Update. Despite finding no errors when running memtest86 for 8 solid hours, I decided to remove the 4GB stick of Hynix Strontium RAM I added. And what do you know: Hey presto! The problem has (apparently at least) gone away. I've been running the machine for 24 hours with only its' original 4GB of RAM in it, and have had no more system hangs. So it must be a faulty stick of RAM, or maybe it was clashing with the standard RAM. I'll buy a matching pair of 2 x sticks of RAM instead, and see if that sorts out my issue. Or maybe 4GB will be sufficient.

    @redead

Yeah I am the same guy.
Can you post the exact model number of the HP laptop? I need to take a look at it.

BTW, did you get a quote of 52k from a dealer or you're guessing the price for the Sony one?
