shubham_2206, could u define the minor tweaks, u r talking about ? also could u put an percentage to the low brightness for clarity sake ? R u using the Battery care function or that 5 hours + is on 100 % charge ?

I keep my laptop on balanced power . Let me give it a try on the Power saver mode .

There are plenty. To name a few, turn off some windows features like telnet server, telnet client etc. Disable unnecessary windows services running in the background, adjust the visual settings accordingly, cut down external devices. Search on the web, you will find many ways to save your battery.

The brightness percentage, it is less than 50% for the majority of time. But sometimes I do increase it, nothing fixed.

I do not use battery care.

What kind of magic potion are you expecting from me ?

These little things are what enhances the performance. I dont think there is any "one big trick" that might take the backup to 5-6 hours. If you find any, please let us all know!

I am not expecting any kind of magic potion from u or anybody . Earlier, it was 6 hours + after the Bios update . Now, u have brought it down to 5 hours + .

Just trying to understand, what is going on here .

Computers are not ideal machines which will give you the exact result every time you check. If you have given any attention to my earlier post, I attached an image which was VERY CLEARLY showing the hours remaining with the battery, "5 hours 45 minutes (94%) remaining" it said. I hope you know your math!!!

Still if you cant accept the fact that battery life improves while on Low Power CPU, no one can help you with it!!
Maybe there is something running on your computer which is eating a lot of power and you dont know it.. Whatever be the case, only you can figure that out, dont say we are exaggerating.

There seems to be something seriously wrong with u .

If that image shows X time, would the lap top give that back up on actual usage ?

U seem to be hell bent on picking up a fight . Learn to be polite .

    Not interested .

    Bug off .

Would you mind posting your exact settings here?

I usually max at around 5 hours, if i can squeeze out another half hour or so that would be really helpful, thanks!

    You're welcome!

Open "services.msc". Stop some VAIO services. In my case, VAIO Content Folder Watcher, VAIO Content Metadata Intelligent Analyzing Manager, VAIO Media plus Content Importer, VAIO Media plus Device Searcher, VAIO Media plus Digital Media Server.
Also, HomeGroup Provider, HomeGroup Listener, Print Spooler, SSDP Discovery, Windows Image Acquisition (I don't use a scanner), Windows Media Player Network Sharing Services.
I sometimes stop the Themes services too when I need a few extra minutes.

Alright thanks im going to try that.

Also, i see in the pic you put up that it estimated 5:45 but many times for me its not usually accurate in practical terms.

What did you ACTUALLY get when using it on battery with your best settings?

The best I get is nearly 5 hours (give or take 15-20 min), that is with low brightness and when I'm only browsing the net along with microsoft word.

I posted that pic to give a proof to that guy that the battery life really improved after the BIOS update. Yes it only gives an estimate, the actual backup is less than that. I'd say around 5 hours, but 5.5 is not impossible!!

...................& u were pretty rude in telling that . Seems, like a habit with u .

People have been claiming 6 hours +, after the bios update ( that is what i originally wrote, when u barged in ) . Now, people r bringing it down to some actual levels . LOL .

I just updated my bios and so far so good. Installing the shard library and then the four software links worked for me (no manual un-installing was necessary since each software automatically uninstalled existing software if necessary).

No blue screens so far with multiple switches between high and low power graphics. Thanks to all who have worked hard and provided this great workaround.

    This installs 11.9:
    http://www2.ati.com/drivers/mobile/11-9_mobility_vista_win7_32-64_ccc.exe

    These are two hotfixes:
    http://www2.ati.com/drivers/hotfix/catalyst_11.10_preview/amd_catalyst_11.10_preview2_win7_vista.exe

    http://www2.ati.com/Drivers/hotfix/catalyst_11.10_preview/amd_catalyst_11.10_preview3_win7_vista.exe

I first installed 11.9 and then the hotfixes. Went just fine!

    Cheers!

ha! on powersaving mode with the intel graphics, my battery is estimating 6 hr, 20 min!

Got my first blue screen today.... :( It only happened after I started monkeying around with trying to update the AMD CCC version. I still was not successful and I think I'm going to stop since its only seeming to cause more problems.

I think a fresh Windows installation should remove the BSOD problem.

The battery does improve a lot on intel graphics. I am really loving this laptop after the update!! :)

Hey Guys today teh first model of CB received a BIOS Update... 240V2 and it comes with the option to change graphic method manually... there was no need to rush installing the bios update of the other model...

I don't know man... I didn't installed the hacked one, something told me to wait a little... Check the VAIO Software Update app, if the update is there then I'm sure you can install it, that's the way I found it... a message of "new vaio updates avaible" popped out, I was sure it was another useless update but I clicked on it just to be sure... to my surprise I was wrong, it was the long waited BIOS Update...

    @WWScoobyDo and all of you!

It is safe to install bios update for ca1x serires but you will loose full keyborad control. So if you do not need it go for a new bios!

    Keyboard is always on
Keyborad is always off will be lost

To enable these functions on ca1x series Notebook utilities software must be updated along with bios so I think it will not happen even in the long run...

    Best of luck, guys!

if you have already update your driver, try to check your dedicated gpu voltage(6630m) using sapphire trixx. i have problem when i want to oc my gpu with the latest amd driver. its always shows 0 instead with normal clock(900). this is really a big problem if you want to overclock gpu because u cannot increase the voltage n your gpu will become unstable. please let me know n inform me if you have already check it. thx :)

    @vaio
That's what I found out after I install the hotfix link that posted here. And it change the gpu name to 660m series and can't change the voltage. But I've been overclocking it when I'm playing The Witcher 2 and found no crashes or whatever. My config is 650/900 and its run great, temp on my gpu is not more thant 75 but my cpu is averaging from 80-85 when OCed.

Any link on the new bios update is it really from Sony Vaio CB or from another model with just same specs with this model?

By the way I'm playing the skyrim, and this machine can handle the game in mid to high settings.

    Hi, guys
I am about to purchase a cb to replace my macbook pro, yeah!!!
Just wondering is right now a good time to buy it or wait till they refresh the product line? I was weighing between lenovo y470 and vaio cb, vaio's screen is so much better, but the GT550 on y470 is so attempting...I so want to play SC2 in high setting in a laptop. Any vaio experts know the product update cycle for the CB? Help...
    thanks

Its basically the same thing as what you guys have already done. So for those who have updated their BIOS there is no need to download or try to install the latest BIOS for CB1X models.

you could not just increasing your core speed and memory clock without increasing your gpu voltage. otherwise, your gpu will become unstabble n will become artefact or brick. FYI, this is my vaio cb in full oc. remember to plugout your battery before doing. and doing with your own risks. you can ask accel also for more details. he knows all about dis. All in settings with no AA

I assume we would need someone to strip out the checking similar to the way he did it for the previous BIOS. I'm not exactly sure what that would buy us though, other than a system with BIOS version in agreement with actual model number.

It is official bios just unpacked. Just run update.bat
Remember that you are doing this at your own risk! All later realeased bios versions for this model by Sony will install automatically.

ok so i ran the .bat file and it updated the bios over the hacked version. Is it proper that it didnt require me to reboot?

The MS dos window came up, showed that the old flash was erased and then the new one installed.

After that, my fan got really loud for a minute then went back to normal and the computer did not ask for a reboot or anything. Do you think it installed properly?!
