You can't really open anything. The keyboard can be detached only if you disassemble your laptop and one or two screws are holding the keyboard from below. Even if you manage to find the right screws and remove the keyboard using some flat object, e.g. screwdriver, it won't help you at all. The best option would be to buy a can of compressed air and blow the stuff from the keyboard away using that.

One question, how are your fn keys working with Windows 8? I can't make the keys work, except for sound keys that work just fine even without any Sony software.
I tried to install the drivers and Control Center, however it is completely useless. It only contains power mode selection and utility for external display.

Has anyone figured out why the pc lags after starting up and also resuming from standby? Also I can't use firefox because if. I open too many tabs it basically comes to a crawl and gets really busy. Vpccb15fa i5 2410m 4gb 500gb 7200rpm radeon 6630m. Also upgraded it to win 7 ultimate from home premium. Also my ram chip is samsung does sony use samsung ram? Nice laptop but crappy support and drivers I wish I had the option of buying a thinkpad again.

You can if you do the following:
Reinstall the default Windows 7 that came with the computer.
Install Windows 8 over that Windows 7 installation
Don't install any updates for the VAIO software, specially control center.

That's how it works for me. When I installed the updated control center it stopped working.

Changing subjects, I think I just broke my SD card reader. I just changing cards, and one of them didn't fit. After some trying with other cards, they entered, but they're no longer detected by the VAIO. I've looked closely and it seems the top flexible plastic bar is broken. The MS card reader is working, though. Any idea how to fix it?.

You don't need to install any driver on your own. Windows does it automatically. I just re-installed Win 8 on my laptop (VPCCB17FG) yesterday and web cam works just fine. Checked using Camera metro app.

EDIT: But I did install SATA, Chipset and Sony Firmware Parser Extension drivers from Sony's website. That might help.

    Thanks for replying .

The Webcam works otherwise, but i was looking for the original Software from Sony ( something similar to what i had in Windows 7 ) .

Are the Battery care functions working in Windows 8 ?

I guess this is what you're looking for.
ArcSoft Magic-i Visual Effects - Download

Regarding the battery care functions, I can only see the battery health but can't make any changes like in Windows 7. A lot of functions that were there in VCC for Win 7 (like Thermal Settings etc) are not there in Win 8 version.

Thanks, i was looking at the charging limitation function Windows 7 had, where we could restrict the charging to 50 or 80 % . I miss that .

R u aware of any third party software, which can perform this function ?

Have you checked the Metro apps when switched to AMD graphics ? When I installed 13.6 Beta 2, all metro apps appeared black. I'm on 13.4 WHQL right now. It's pretty stable.

For those who're having issues with Vaio Smart Network not working or fn keys not working (except volume), install .net framework 3.5 from Add/Remove Windows features.

Also for clean install, install the Windows 7 Smart Network under Windows 7 compatibility mode & not the upgrade one. It works.

Also install Sony shared library & notebook utilities under Windows 7 compatibility mode.

For the last 3-4 days, I am experiencing a lot of lag when playing games on my laptop. I'm playing Bioshock Infinite these days. Earlier, I set the graphics details to High and it ran smoothly. But now even if I set it to Very Low, there is a lot of lag. I installed Batman Arkham City and the same happened. Lag even on low graphic details. I did not update the drivers or install any new application. Neither did I change any settings in the Catalyst Control Center. What could be wrong ? Is there any way to determine the cause ?

I have VAIO VPCCB17FG running Windows 8, with leshcat graphics drivers installed.

my VPCCB15FG with W8 and Leshcat’s Catalyst 13.6 Beta 2 is working fine...I just select High performance in CCC and select High performance in Power Options...
    I play Grid2 and Farcry3 now...

    Is it a virus issue???

Has anyone disassembled their VPCCB? I am having trouble putting it back together, is there a disassembly guide? This laptop is one of the worst to take apart and even more of a nightmare to peice together, it has cables and ribbons coming out of both side if the mobo.

You installed the wrong Smart Network. Install the Windows 7 one. Unfortunately, there is no way you could uninstall the one you've installed directly. The only way is to manually delete the associated files & registry entries.

I was repulsed by windows 8 at first, no start menu etc. Is it better than windows 7 which I like a lot, is it faster or more stable? Is it worth all this trouble as I might try win 8.1 next month? Will it run well on my specs chek my signature? Thanks.

I haven't messed with windows 8 but in windows 7 I use the latest graphics drivers from sony. Also I saw the win 8 upgrade page at Sony support and it looks like a nightmare to upgrade to win 8. They haven't released drivers for this laptop yet, what are they waiting for?

    Have you tried these?

    14. Graphics Driver (Intel) : INDVID-80275573-0082.EXE
    15. Graphics Driver (AMD) : A2DVID-80272914-0082.EXE

Guys, which graphics driver are you using with Windows 8.1 ? The Sony's updated graphics drivers for Windows 8.1 has been a nightmare. The dedicated GPU crashed twice within 6 months and I had to replace my motherboard twice. Pls reply.

Do I need a clean install or installing over the Sony's driver ?
You use switching in Dynamic mode or fixed mode ?

You will need to completely remove existing drivers. Refer this link for detailed instructions on how to do this.

    Unified Leshcat Driver Manual

I use switching in Fixed Mode. Also, if you face any issues with v2.0, install v1.3. One of my friend had Black Screen issues on v2.0 which made it impossible to switch between the graphics.
