They are selling like hot cakes despite the price!

Nope, they had new stock (Z12) for a week now on display. It just happened I missed out on stock but it should be there in a week.

Sweet! Once I sell the free PS3, this baby is only going to cost me $3000. A total saving of $1100.

I'd say that some of the memory is used by the Intel integrated GPU. The nVidia discrete GPU does have its dedicated memory, it's not the case of the Intel GPU thus is reserves some part of the computer RAM for its own usage.

Is there any setting in the BIOS to define the amount of memory used by the Intel integrated GPU?

Sony only ships 64-bit version of Windows with the latest Z (core-i based, the very subject of this thread).

Besides in that case the system would use only 3 GB (minus the amount reserved for the Intel integrated GPU), and not ~3.7 GB.

hmm I dont know about that, but I installed a freeware for two finger scroll and you can program 2 finger/three finger taps. But the synaptic drivers I've got installed comes with 2 finger swipe/flick, I don't think it has 2 finger scroll though. (you can find the 2 finger swipe under settings >> application gestures)

click on the synaptics icon on the taskbar, go to device settings, then click on the "settings..." button then click on the tapping choice on the menu, and check the box that says "enable tapping".

Did connect my Vaio Z vi HDMI via Denon 4310 Receiver to a Samsung 58" Plasma TV (full HD), with following issues:

-Missing pixels at the edge of the picture (all the way around it seems)
-The picture "jumps" continufrequently some pixelrows up and down
-The mouse moves slow/with a lag (and a little bit smooth/sticky)

Any Ideas why i is like this? Anyone experienced the same? Are the issues related to the Vaio, or TV (receiver)?

By the way, about the Z display I find the whitebalance changes quit alot when moving the head up an down or tilting the display up/down. It doesn`t change that much when moving the head/laptop sideways (and anyway you wouldn`t normally do that either). But it is easy to forget to sit/tilt the display head on, and this can cause relative big istakes when editing photos...

EDIT: Is it possible to just send out sound through HDMI (no picture)?

It has just been refreshed to Z12x but no changes in processor or SSD capacity. Waiting for my Z128 - hopefully in a week's time as they are currently out of stock.

Keep in mind that our base model is around AU$3500 (inc 10% GST) - that's US$3000, even with the recent hit the aussie dollar has taken, and you can CTO the same specs on the US site for around US$2100 (exc. tax). I'm not sure about canadian pricing, but I'm presuming it is more comparable to the US. I travel between the US and Australia, and believe me, the enticement of a free PS3 is not nearly enough to make me buy a z in Australia rather than the US. So don't feel like you're missing out on too much!

This is always a prolem with TN (twisted nematic) type displays. For photographic work you will have to get a proper TFT monitor and calibrate it.

Have you tried connecting directly to TV?
I agree, the vertical viewing angle is not greatest but my other VAIO (TZ) is the same. Try to find the best position and try to not move a lot ;)
I believe you can only send sound through HDMI if external monitor is active.

I got this through an authorised retailer Harvey Norman. They usually don't give discounts even if they have "sales" - I had to throw the book at them to get the discount :p Why? Their advertisement was misleading and didn't state in the T&Cs that it excluded Vaios etc etc.

So a leaked Intel roadmap for their Fall line up speaks of the i7-640M going from 2.8GHz abd turbos to 3.46GHz. (Instead of the current i7-620M" 2.66GHz / 3.33 GHz )

A small increase, but Im willing to bet that will come in the Z in the fall refresh, including the i5-580.

A good find! However, I would say if you see the Z on discount grab it rather than waiting for a minimal upgrade.

    That would be sweet.

A driver question; Is there any way, to overwrite the error messege not allowing users to update their drivers?

Why oh why, are sonys graphics drivers so outdated? why dont they have a QA team who gets on the release of the latest? is it because they think most Vaio Z owners are business owners who dont know or dont care?

I don't have an Orochi so I'll just parrot what Crayonyes said:

    and what Mastershroom said:

And the driver seems to be hidden underneath 'more files' on the Razar website, here's the link:

How do you like the mouse? Does it go to sleep frequently and take a while to wake up?

    Haven't tried yet.

In other news, there is a new version of the Intel Turbo Monitor. Well, new to me at least.

    Intel® Turbo Boost Technology Monitor

    Fixes:
    1. The processor badge is displayed in the "Turbo Boost Technology Monitor has encountered a problem" screen
    2. Desktop gadget gallery description text for the gadget in details section has been updated
    3. Changed the translation of „Technology‟ in German Language to “Technik”
    4. Turbo frequency text in display bar for some European languages (German, Italian…) is now visible

I hope it fixes number 1.
