I have the same problem with VAIO Update 5, I think I shall just delete it. Also, the VAIO messenger app keeps popping up too for no reason. Are these 2 apps useless? Thank you.

Nope, I've got the same issue. A stuck pixel that's red in the lower left corner. My windows are now set to pop up in the middle of the screen, so the photos on the desktop pretty much cover it up. Plus, with windows popping up in the middle of the screen, I can still always have access to double-click My Computer and Libraries, so it actually works out OK. Just trying to make lemonade out of lemons.

Not my post but this is the new z12 are these standard sata connectors, I'm not to good with computers though but these definitly do not look like zif connectors in the quad raid setup(I'm not to good with this cable thing though so please feel free to make fun of me if I'm wrong), the drives are also toshiba like someone mentioned that Sony switched, a few others are reporting toshiba drives in the new z12

    Z126 Sony Korea

it comes with two 64gb toshiba in raid 0 configuration

with a similar looking raid cable that was seen in VGN-Z series.

Silver was the older Z series battery type, which is not compatible with the newer Z series.

Hi guys, just got my Sony Vaio Z128. Perfect, absolutely perfect. It's an amazing machine. Owned plenty of other laptops before but boy, this is just super.

    I have the 1080p screen too :)

The USB support for Virtual PC is nice, it works well.

"Normal" USB devices are also well supported in VMWare Virtual Machine.

Thanks mate. It's been a long wait. I've wanted a Vaio Z since the day it was launched - 3 years ago? Anyway, when I finally decided, I had to wait another 4.5 weeks for stock to arrive. It's definitely been worth the wait!

The fan noise is not an issue. It's amazingly quiet.

The full HD screen is stunning to say the least. Sure, surfing the web may be a problem in terms of text being small, but it's easy to zoom in.

My first SSD-based machine. It flies!

Plus SSD is really good & fast, I would not now opt for anything else.

I must say, its quite difficult to take pictures of the screen using a camera without loosing quality in the image. So i was forced to take screen shots, but i took a few so you can getter a better feel of the differences. I took 1600x900 with 100% 125% and 150% then i took 1920x1080 in 125% and 150%.

    1. Anyone know how to change which graphics card the machine uses manually? If I am on battery I can never get the discrete graphics to turn on.

    2. On Power Schemes I used Balance, but it is set to Balance for both plugged in and not plugged in. Can I change schemes for both situations or can I only change the "advanced settings" inside Balance scheme?

    Thanks.

    1. I'm confused. You can't switch to Speed when you're on battery?

    2. You can change how the laptop behaves when plugged in vs. not plugged in for a power plan. But I recommend you just create your own power plan and set the plugged in vs. battery settings to your liking. It's very easy and quick and ensures you get whatever performance you want on AC and on battery.

    1. I put it on Speed button and it's still using the intel graphics. Steam told me so, but I had no way to verify if the card was actually switched...

    2. Thanks I will do that!

Sorry, I guess I'm still a little confused about 1. So you manually push the hybrid graphics button to Speed when on battery, and you're saying it still stays in Stamina? There should be a little green light next to the switch that indicates what graphics card you are using. Is that light switching, but you have software indicating you are still using the intel graphics?

I am relatively unfamiliar with Steam, so not sure what you mean when you say that "Steam told me so."

On battery: I switch the button to Speed. I am just now wondering how I can check if the discrete graphics is actually being used. Sorry for the confusion :D

as JP$ stated a little green light next to the switch indicates which card is being used. There is one right under the word "speed" another above the word "stamina" and another under to the word "auto" located around the switch.

One way to tell: In Device Manager, under display adapters look at the adapters listed. In Stamina mode you will only see Intel Integrated Graphics. However when you switch to Speed the GT330 entry will appear.

If I'm the only one having this problem, maybe it's because my machine has a problem the trackpad. Can anyone confirm that their trackpad performs typically, or if you find it too sensitive, what you've done about it?

I haven't had a problem with the trackpad. What do you mean by "if my palm gets close to it while typing...?" So the cursor jumps just by having your palm in proximity to the touchpad? If that's the case, then yes, that sounds like an issue. If you are physically touching the pad though with your palm as you type, then I think it's completely normal that the cursor will jump to a random location. This happens to me sometimes if I'm not careful with where I'm resting my hands.

actually his has happened to me too once or twice im not sure if its a defect, or the computer lagging causing it to randomly jump but i always check to see if it happens because maybe another finger or my palm accidentally touches the pad at the same time but im keeping an eye on it as well as consider installing updated drivers. i hear their are drivers that can enable two finger scrolling.. this might fix the buggy touch pad problems as well

Having the same annoying issue. The wifi just drops every 5 mins and then i have to reboot to get it back. I did see in the Log Files something about thermal throttling being active but in my power options i have it set so it doesn't shut down any component.

I have no clue what else i could do.

edit: I updated the wireless adapter's drivers to the June 2010 ones.. so far, so good, but i'll wait a couple of hours to declare victory.

Just in case dimension6 doesn't get a chance to reply before you get there...

My laptop was built and shipped from Japan's Sonystyle, I have no problems with drivers.

    No, no, yes.

I believe the Japanese WWAN card is locked to one of their ISPs. I haven't seen any way to unlock it.

Edit: I just saw Blue13x's post, the Japanese versions all include TPMs. That's the difference with US ones.

    - Sony is using Toshiba brand SSD's on the Z1290X. I have 2 x 128GB.

    - I did not chose fresh start as it removed the Adobe Bundle option. I have Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Photoshop elements and Adobe Premiere on mine.

    hey guys some quick questions!

when i plug in the noise cancelling headphones, is the sound meants to automatically come through them? or do i need to click something. currently sound still comes from the speakers

also just a maintenance issue. noticed there are gaps around the keys, likely to do with the backlit keyboard. im not always the cleanest person and am worrying about grit and dirty stuff clogging up this beauitful machine. is this a problem, and if so, anyway to prevent or clean?

I wonder why there are using toshiba now.

The adobe bundle is goood, as it saves a good $200.
Since mine won't come with all of that Im going to have to buy those separately.
Maybe Photoshop elements + Sony Vegas would be better, as im hearing bad things about premiere elements.

Welcome :). Reading at 100% is very tough! the default 125% is fine. I might try to pump it up to improve the fonts (in dark atmosphere, I don't like concentrating much on reading small fonts  )

When you plug the noise canceling headphones, the sound should automatically come through them, not the internal speakers. Are you sure, you are pushing the headphone jack all the way through? and just for troubleshooting; you are putting the jack in right port ?

The gaps between the keys is for backlight. I think, the best way to avoid any dirt in the gaps is to get a keyboard clear cover.
